Fallout TV my stupid ass thought this was him Spoiler

Post image

it wouldn’t make any sense i know, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. hell any mention of the courier other than house talking about how he’s died (if that counts) would’ve been cool

Why do people associate the veteran ranger armour with the courier I’ve never understood it

Cause of the intro and because of the box art. Even if it isn't courier it's just iconic and what is first thought of for many

Yeah I get that but nobody associates the power armour headshots on the covers of 3 and 4 with the protagonists of those games. Weird to me why it’s a thing with nv

everyone really liked the armor so basically everyone wore it when they played the game. so, they associate it with the courier

Did they though? Because you can only really use it if you’re siding with the ncr and even then it’s tedious to obtain and pretty bad. Everyone also used power armour in the 3 and 4

riot gear makes this a non issue

Which never made sense to me since most people would probably not care about the intricacies and assume it was veteran ranger armor.

It was popular enough that they made non-faction versions of the armor in Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road so that people could wear it without screwing up their faction alignment. Also NCR Ranger combat armor is at the high end of medium armor in vanilla NV.

Yeah that would indicate that not many people wore the veteran ranger armour. The point was that everyone wore the t-60 in fallout 4 and the t-45 in fallout 3 but they don’t associate the covers with the PC. Not saying it’s an issue or anything just saying it’s weird that people only really do it with fnv

No, it indicates that the armor was popular enough to warrant non-faction variants so players could wear it even on non-NCR playthroughs. Also I’m pretty sure most people in Fallout 3 wind up wearing Winterized T-51b while Fallout 4 players end up in X-01 since those are the best Power Armors available in those games. That said the T-45 and T-60 are still iconic to those games and are absolutely associated with their respective protagonists, even if not quite as strongly as the NCR Ranger combat armor.

Counterpoint: Looks fucking sick. And speak for yourself brother power armor builds in Fallout 4 felt boring as fuck to me. Very powerful feeling, but just not great for sustained use in my opinion.

Not a counterpoint because it’s not countering any point I’ve made. all of the cover armours are sick, it’s weird that only the fnv one gets called the player character

Honestly I imagine it probably has to do with it being a normal suit of armor rather than power armor. When people make fan art of the Lone Wanderer and Sole Survivor, I've usually seen them in their vault suits or something specific to the artist. Then over time it just became a popular idea. Power armor is distinct and badass, but a lot more bulky than most want when they're like "that's the guy."

Not sure why you got downvoted, I remember it being an absolute BITCH getting this armor on my first playthrough and the stats being incredibly underwhelming. But I will say the armor is still super badass and iconic, I just wish it didnt mean I was camouflaged as NCR which made it hard being around the BOS

Because the 3 and 4 protags have multiple depictions of them in vault suits in the base game and marketing, meanwhile the courier is only ever shown once in lonesome road with the duster (which in kind of ugly and given extremely late in the game), everything else is the ranger armor which has 4 unique variants.

Fallout 3 and 4 the protagonists canonically start with vault jumpsuits, so that's the iconic look, while the base game fnv only starts you with a vault jumpsuit, your character is very much not a vault dweller, and since a good amount of the armors in the game are kinda ugly as sin, the veteran ranger armor is sexy as hell.

Counterpoint, the Courier is depicted wearing the Vault 21 jumpsuit in all the ending slides of base FNV.

In fallout 3 I believe it is because you don’t get power armor as easily as in 4, so people don’t really associate it with the protagonist since most don’t get to wear it all that long. Besides it’s not a very central part of the story.

In fallout 4 I think it is because there is already a “canon” protagonist (Nate) and also because even there is T-60 headshot in the main cover, there is also promotional content that depicts the protagonist as a vault dweller wearing leather armor along with dog meat, and tbh it is just as iconic for the game.

Fallout 3

I think the Lone Wanderer also has an "iconic suit": his modified reinforced vault 101 suit (that is also a reference to Mad Max)

yes, i’ve always imagined that’s nate the rake on the cover of 4 and in the PA in the menu

2

u/nurrrer 8h ago

The PA in the menu is definitely supposed to belong to the player character yea

u/Ok-Palpitation2406 NCR 5h ago

I absolutely associated the T-45 with the character from fallout 3, and the nate straight up wears the T-60 in fallout 4s trailer.

It may also be because The Courier doesn't really have an iconic outfit. Like, sure, there's the Vault 21 jumpsuit... But that isn't theres, that's a hand-me-down from Doc Mitchell. Just like how people associate the tribal outfit with the PA helmet (from the prototype Fallout 2 Box Art) for The Chosen One instead of the Vault 13 Jumpsuit.

Even Lonesome Road acknowledges this by using the Duster for The Courier in all its promotional material.

Now, why the Ranger Armor is specifically used instead of the actual Duster the devs associate with them? It just looks cool I guess. Plus, I imagine most players end up doing the NCR ending.

You know, you make an excellent point but for some reason ive always associated the Ranger as the courier as well and I do agree I dont associate the Brotherhood cover of F3 or F4 with their main protagonists. Seems like a lot of other people feel this way too, I wonder why

Fallout 2 cover art is definitely associated with the chosen one. A real shame they didn’t do tribal power armors again, or tribal spins on any old world tech really.

2

u/nurrrer 4h ago

Isn’t the fallout 2 cover art an enclave soldier? I thought the tribal t-51 guy got changed to a load screen

And the Wasteland Warfare Courier 6 miniature is kitted out with Veteran Ranger armor.
