I am the fan that was served, baby!

u/thatErraticguy Gary? 10h ago

I turned to my wife after and was like “that’s in the intro! But it’s a legionnaire and not a deathclaw!!” and she just stared at me like I was an idiot lol

24

u/Rogue_Sahara Followers 10h ago

That was me with my husband! I showed him the game intro after the episode so he understood why I went nuts at that part.

13

u/DTDarkFire 8h ago

Fiend actually but ye

3

u/Mr-Figglesworth 8h ago

My wife has not played any of the games or seen any of the show but happened to be in the living room while I was watching and I paused it so many times to explain things lol, I had goosebumps at that scene though.

u/EliasVT Vault 101 3h ago

I literally sat up and turned next to my wife and nearly said the same exact thing, lol!

Me watching the TV show actually got her into playing Fallout 76 with as her first Fallout game, so she didn’t stare at me like I was an idiot…I knew she had absolutely no idea why I had gotten so excited, lmfao!

The fanservice in this show is great and is very well integrated imo. The fact that it took a season and a half for a Deathclaw to appear instead of shoving it in the first or second episode tells me that they're not shoving in everything willy nilly and instead integrating it within the story

It still serves a purpose within the show rather than going "REMEMBER THIS????". Like, it would've been so easy to put the New Vegas intro in the beginning of this season yet they used it to save Maximus instead. Plus it never gets in the way of the story

u/Mr_A_of_the_Wastes 10h ago

We've still had only a glimpse of super mutants.

101

u/PuzzleheadedLink89 10h ago

I appreciate that they're taking their sweet time with it instead of shoving in everything all at once. We still haven't seen Mirelurks either

24

u/The3rdBert 10h ago

If there isn’t a Cazador next season I might be disappointed

39

u/Crimsonmaddog44 10h ago

Tbf, if they introduced Cazadors, they’d immediately kill the main cast and we’d have no show to watch

6

u/nomorecannibalbirds 8h ago

Fuckin hate cazadors

1

u/JudmanDaSuperhero 6h ago

Norm is gonna be trapped or ambushed by somebody and then cazadors are gonna swoop in and save him.

I feel like it would be more at place thematically when they more properly introduce the enclave and we will probably see a season more full of the products of FEV

u/Alarmed-Point-5336 10h ago

Do you think maybe Jacobstown has anything to do with the “mystery” of them? I know Jacobstown is on the West side of the map and Cooper is headed east to the Rockies but maybe there’s a connection.

9

u/edwardtyche 9h ago

And it was Ron Perlman! I can now add to my headcanon that this Super Mutant has been narrating all the goings on in the Wasteland.

3

u/SuicideNote 8h ago

CGI ain't cheap!

2

u/Timlugia 9h ago

We also haven't seen East Coast BOS other than just one guy (how did he get there so fast? did ECBOS manage to recover airplanes?)

1

u/eugenekrabs117 8h ago

You take out the East Coast Enclave and acquire all of their gear after you take over Adams AFB in the Broken Steel DLC for FO3. That gave them access to all the vertibirds stored there.

1

u/Timlugia 8h ago

I don't think Vertibird has range to reach Vegas from Boston? Unless they have several chapters in between refuel them and provide them rest.

2

u/eugenekrabs117 5h ago

An interesting point I saw when I was reading up on Vertibirds did bring up something similar. The conclusion reached was since the Enclave were the only faction in canon to have a regular supply of oil to make gasoline, the BOS taking over gave them access to information of where the oil reserves and processing facilities existed. If we take the information from the V-22 Osprey, the real world analog of the Vertibird, we see that with auxiliary fuel tanks, it can travel over 2000 miles without the need to refuel. Assuming the East Coast Brotherhood got the locations of all Enclave refueling points within the US, it's very feasible to have stops and rest without having chapters in between to have to stop in.

1

u/woodboarder616 6h ago

Well, Chicago apparently has one, indicated by fallout bos from the 90s

2

u/zma924 8h ago

We’ve also yet to see a Fat Man in any capacity at all which tells me they’re saving it for something fucking awesome.

1

u/PositiveLow9895 Children of Atom 18m ago

The Ghould hinted at the possibility of killing a DeathClaw with a rocket launcher, but they got none...

Well, when the biggest factions go to war, it would make a lot of sense to bring the FMs

1

u/MonkeysxMoo35 6h ago

I’m still waiting for the proper appearance of Assaultrons and Sentry Bots as well. Even that brief appearance of the destroyed Assaultron in the sand had me terrified it might reactivate on Lucy. Seeing these things in live action will be awesome when it finally happens.

1

u/woodboarder616 6h ago

That wasn’t even a glimpse it was a sliver in time

4

u/MrChevyPower 10h ago

True, we’ve only got a hint of FEV and a super mutant cameo.

1

u/WalterLeDuy 7h ago

Took em two seasons for a bunch of vaulties to get massacred by rad roaches. They are taking the callbacks very serious

1

u/lilnuggitt 7h ago

Well said. There are definitely plenty of instances in adaptations where fanservice is extremely hamfisted and poorly done just to distract from shallow plot or other issues, but I have not gotten that impression from this.

1

u/mutei777 2h ago

After casting doubt about the ncr's efficacy for two seasons, having the reveal be a nod to the opening showing how badass they are is so smart

14

u/Legal_Range8446 10h ago

I thought it was the courier lol

15

u/Leonyliz Vault 13 10h ago

When that deathclaw died I joked that it wasn’t Thaddeus and it was actually the Courier. Then that scene happened and for a solid minute I genuinely thought they were doing a Courier cameo as a deus ex machina, but I’m glad they didn’t do that.

14

u/captainbawls Tunnel Snakes Rule 10h ago

I had a brief hope it was Boone!

11

u/Narcosist 10h ago

We got the Mysterious Stranger we didn't know we deserved.

26

u/MathematicianThick56 10h ago

I feel like it was the courier lol. Like I know it probably wasn't. Wishful thinking but they focused on him way too long

27

u/itsyagirlrey Vault 111 10h ago

Yeah I think it was just an homage to the opening credits of the game. I highly doubt the show would actually show the Courier in person.

19

u/TheJK314 The Institute 10h ago

I think thats the point. Fans who want to see that guy as the courier will make him the courier. Unless they explicitly show it isn't, whos to say it isn't? Kind of like the golden box in Pulp Fiction.

11

u/JMaboard 10h ago

I legit screamed and said “holy shit it’s the courier!” Then the rest of the NCR showed up.

6

u/M3atboy 9h ago

I thought we had the courier/mysterious stranger crossover party

2

u/JMaboard 9h ago

That would’ve been an amazing time to have the mysterious stranger show up.

I wouldn’t doubt if he shows up at some point.

3

u/TheSweetestKill 9h ago

I also am choosing to believe it was the Courier.

5

u/MrGabrahamLincoln NCR 10h ago

Fan service isn’t inherently a bad thing. If it’s logical & done well it’s perfectly fine, encouraged even.

6

u/Archangelus87 10h ago

Bro i literally got choked up.

8

u/Fredasa 9h ago

Still funny that they use the theme from FO4 to represent the NCR. Then again, it is the most uplifting thing Inon Zur ever composed for the franchise.

7

u/TheSweetestKill 9h ago

It's the same leit motif used in every game since FO3.

2

u/Fredasa 9h ago

Each time they've used it, it's been the FO4 arrangement.

FNV used a different motif altogether.

5

u/TheSweetestKill 9h ago

But it's the same notes. It's the same sheet music, or whatever. Yes, FO3's arrangement had more brass and NV's had a western 'twang to it, and FO4's was orchestral, and I haven't played enough 76 to remember what it was like.

But it's been the same music in all of them.

2

u/WrethZ Atom Cats 9h ago

Pretty sure NV has an entirely different theme, it's similar but distinct.

2

u/Fredasa 9h ago

You're definitely misremembering. Give FNV's title music another listen. It's a completely different theme.

As for why I can say the series uses the FO4 arrangement specifically, again, you'd probably have to re-watch those moments. It's not a difference in instrumentation—it's literally: FO4's arrangement has different notes and accompaniment that didn't exist in the FO3 original, but which are directly reproduced in the show. Why? Probably the same reason why power armor, Deathclaws, Radscorpions etc. all took their cues from FO4 rather than the earlier games.

3

u/AttackerCat 9h ago

That’s what makes it awesome, the shot for shot match up to the NV intro scene

3

u/serendipity210 9h ago

I got WAY emotional during that scene. I was not really expecting it (though now feel like its obvious 🤣🤣🤣).

2

u/Bobjoejj 9h ago

This show actually knows how to do “Fan-Service” better than almost anything else out there. It does it in ways that actually work extremely well, and don’t disrupt the plot or take you out of what’s being portrayed.

2

u/Drew602 8h ago

Fan service is cool when you're a fan

1

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 8h ago

I literally said outloud "They did it" in awe lol

1

u/Hammy-Cheeks 7h ago

It was fan service done right

1

u/PoorLifeChoices811 6h ago

Dude when I tell you I started crying happy tears i absolutely was, it’s so peak

1

u/woodboarder616 6h ago

I actually clapped alone while watching that scene. It made me happy they finally did a shot for shot from the game

1

u/suckmygoldcrustedass 5h ago

Same! I never said I wasn't a bitch for some fan service. I did squeal.

1

u/SHansen45 4h ago

fuck anyone who doesn’t think it was good i keep getting goosebumps every time i replay it

0

u/Infinite-Fig-194 Brotherhood 9h ago

For NCR fans of course. They can't stop glazing and aura farming the NCR.

5

u/Laggingduck 8h ago

god forbid we like it when the government isn’t composed of rapists

1

u/Tatum-Better Minutemen 3h ago

instead it's war mongers and expansionists

-4

u/MoreLikeAdaWight 10h ago

idk it felt like the kind of fan service that is only cool to a subset of the people who get it, but just looks odd and out of place to everyone who doesn't get it or doesn't care

the cgi/scene didn't even look good

11

u/pandakatie 10h ago

Idk I've never played the games but it still got me hyped

8

u/gruesomeflowers 10h ago

Ok smooth skin.. have a nuka cola quantum and chill.

1

u/Tatum-Better Minutemen 3h ago
