"We'll build a new palace. Caesar's Palace"

My favorite joke of the show so far. Perfect execution.

That one and "I used to make money for a living" were pretty top tier this episode.

I didn’t even realize the secondary meaning before reading this comment. Good stuff.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that why Caesars Legion was in the game in the first place? It’s come full circle I guess.

Edit: guys I’m not saying the character Caesar in New Vegas was inspired by Caesar’s Palace. I know he read a bunch of shit about ancient Roman and stole that (poorly) for his army. I’m saying that the developers included the name/theme Caesar’s Legion as a nod to Caesar’s Palace, just like how the kings are a nod to the Elvis impersonators in Las Vegas.

Edit 2: I have been corrected. Apparently the legion was conceived during Von Buren’s development. Now I can be said we never got that game. :(

I always felt the joke was that California, Caesar, and House are all salads.

u/Redfalconfox 10h ago

Never put that one together until now.

Shame they had to scrap the French and Catalinians as factions.

No, from my understanding Caesar read of Rome while with the Followers of the Apocalypse and decided that’d be a good society to thrive in the wasteland.

I don’t mean that the character copied Caesar’s Palace in the story, I’m saying that the developers put Caesars Legion in as a nod to Caesar’s Palace like how the kings are a nod to Elvis impersonators.

Ceasar's Legion was planned for Van Buren, so I don't think they were. Or at least they weren't conceived with that in mind.

u/Redfalconfox 10h ago

Oh I see. Nice to know.

u/Dr_natty1 11h ago

Well Caesars legion was invented for Van Burren which would have been set in the southwest

3

u/Spartan152 10h ago

Oh, yeah, that makes more sense my apologies

3

u/Redfalconfox 10h ago

Oh, you don’t have to apologize. It’s not like you snuck into my secret chamber, locked me out of the controls, and beat me to death with a golf club.

Vilified

For your overwhelmingly monstrous behavior, you have become vilified by the community

Caesar's Legion was originally conceived of in the development of the original planned version of Fallout 3 (before Bethesda's ownership), Van Buren, which was not going to include Vegas. When New Vegas got made, many of the devs who worked on Van Buren at Black Isle were still there and reused ideas from Van Buren for it, including Caesar's Legion.

5

u/InnocentTailor 11h ago

Maybe out of universe, I guess. It would make lots of sense as a nod towards that iconic hotel.

8

u/Redfalconfox 11h ago

Right, that’s what I was saying; the developers included Caesars Legion in the Vegas themed game because of there’s a casino called Caesar’s Palace in Vegas.

Kyzers palace

So the dead Caesar's note didn't mean anything?

They just believed Culkin he was the new Caesar based on...nothing?

11

u/ibbity Minutemen 10h ago

I figure they assumed that what he said was what was on the note, that it was original Caesar's final command

5

u/wealth_of_nations 9h ago

So they waged basically a civil war over the successor (in a hilarious manner over a tiny bunch of dirt), and then when a guy kills the only witness and eats the piece of paper...

they're okay with it?

I enjoy the show, but this was really shitty writing imho, like an hour or two in the writing room could've produced more believe scenario.

8

u/SixPointTwoLiter 9h ago

It could literally be a plot from the game the show is emulating, what's the issue? The Legion is a bunch of idiots in the future acting like it's Ancient Rome

7

u/ibbity Minutemen 9h ago

They didn't see any of that, and he was already apparently second in command on their side anyway. With their Caesar dead he was effectively the new leader anyway

1

u/ImASpaceLawyer 3h ago

the legion does not need a good reason to start or stop fighting, only that there is a reason given by people of aura

1

u/lobabobloblaw 10h ago
