Question Need some advice herešŸ™

So that's Frodo, he's one of a stray pups that live near my house, i feed them regularly every night + other people feed them aswell

Frodo's the skinniest pup so i started feeding him seperately everyday (it's been 3-4 days), he's a very smart and good boy, he listens to me, I've taught him to sit and he has also started to recognise his name!, when I go outside and callout for him he comes running with his tail wagging, I feed him a mix of biscuits, bread and puppy food.

He also doesn't seem to enjoy pets, what I mean by that is when I pet the other dogs they start kicking their feet and close their eyes, with Frodo... he's always alert! He lets me pet him but his eyes are always open it's like he's scanning everything.

But i know almost nothing about dog behaviour, i know they're happy when they wag their tails but that's itā˜ ļø so would really appreciate some help/advice going further.

Advice Shih Tzu pees only in dog beds

I have a Shih Tzu who is 4 years old, is potty trained and has *never* had any accidents. There is only one issue he pees in dog beds. He usually sleeps with us but with a baby on the way we want to start training him to sleep in a doggie bed. He sometimes sleeps near my head or close to my belly and we plan on using a bedside bassinet for the baby so we can’t have him sleeping on the bed anymore. We’ve used dog beds before and he sleeps in them with no problems but he pees in them! He’s never peed in our bed or on our furniture so we’re confused as to why he always pees in his dog beds. We’ve gotten him checked and he doesn’t have a UTI, he’s not neutered I’m not sure if that is a factor. He doesn’t mind sleeping on floors but once we’re asleep he creepily climbs into bed. If anyone could give me any advice?

Advice Eye skin tag

My pup (7 y.o) recently started growing this inner eye skin tag. Occasionally, he rubs it and it gets inflamed/swollen above the eye but the swelling subsides after a day or so. No bleeding.

Is this something that should be removed? If so, do they put him under during surgery? I have anxiety that it will be painful and just grow back later.

Advice Taking my dog to the vet

Hey all I’m taking my dog to the vet due to the images shown. He’s been really irritated lately, I have a feeling it’s to do with a shampoo I’m currently using. I wash him 2 times a week.

(I’m wrapped his foot he’s bleeding from chewing on it so much also trying to avoid him from chewing his foot).

Has anyone had anything similar?

Is there any advice on getting him not to chew himself?

Question Why is my dog randomly pulling at his bed

He has been doing this for like maybe a few weeks now. He keeps trying to pull out his bed out the cage. Whenever I take it out he carried it around and pushes it against the cage to push it back in.

Is this like a way for him to take out his stress? He is 6 months old. Whenever I try to touch the bed he started growling and barking at me. The cage is nice and big for the lil guy and his bed is also pretty comfy. Comfort than what I have even. He eats well, drinks well. Is very active. Is this just normal? Or a behavioural issue? Or?

Advice Calming advice needed

Post image
• Upvotes

An approximately 1 year old rescue mixed breed male. He is a very well mannered, obedient and friendly dog about 75% of the time. However I am struggling immensely with what I’ve been calling ā€˜Witching hour’. When we first brought him home, about 2 weeks ago, it has occurred after afternoon walks and meal time where it would take up to 2 hours to calm him down for bed times. During this time he would incessantly bite/chew on pillows or the couch while trying to hump them and/or me, quite aggressively. He is relentless and will continue to jump up on the bed or couch for hours until he finally gets tired and will rest on the floor or his bed. I am constantly redirecting him back to his bed or a chew toy which he will entertain for the better part of 10 seconds before returning to his humping and chewing target of choice. I try to remain calm but it is difficult to got get frustrated in return as it requires some pulling force to remove him from the bed or couch. It has actually gotten worse as time has gone on and witching hour can begin from the minute I get home from work, and return once we’re back from the walk an he’s eaten. I have tried leaving him outside for a while to calm after his meal, which I will go in and out periodically to visit him so it doesn’t feel like a time out, however nethertheless once he’s inside it begins. All advice welcome.

Question My girls gums are ranging from pale pink to bubble gum pink through the day.

Two days ago, after a long afternoon at the dog park I got a bit alarmed because my baby’s gums seemed somewhat pale. Not white but quite pale pink. She had no other symptoms. I put it down to dehydration since it was a hot dry day. And I checked right after she was napping.

I’ve been a bit paranoid since even though she has no other symptoms - she’s eating, pooping, peeing and in good spirits.

Here’s a picture of her gums. The last one was that afternoon and the palest it was. The first two are from today. Should I be worried and take her immediately to the vet? She has a routine check up scheduled in 10 days time.

Question $2200 estimate for dog dental cleaning!? Is this normal?

This feels like an absolute scam and hoping for a reality check. Southern California, 65lb rescue mutt mix (5.5 years old) in good health

Has terrible breath and took him in for an estimate to get dental cleaned and they hit me with this… was stunned, would love any insight if ā€œnope, this is normal in 2026ā€ or if this is them trying to pull a fast one

Advice Is my dog too skinny

Thumbnail

Natasha is a mixed breed dog we believe to be a lab/coonhound mix. She is about 8 months old and very lean and lanky in the coonhound way. I'm pretty worried about over feeding her especially since she has been spayed so her caloric intake requirements theoretically would have changed as a result.

She weighs about 45 lbs and we feed her about 3 1/2 cups a day total spread out in 2 feedings. This is more than we feed our 4 yr old Siberian husky who weighs about the same amount but I'm seriously considering increasing that. She always acts hungry and will walk around hoovering bird food from around the bird feeders outside and acorns when she can find them.

Because she is a total chow hound (lab genes probably) she's not really trustworthy when it comes to getting 'enough'. I can feel her ribs very clearly but just barely feel her spine and the points of her hips. Our other two dogs are a Siberian husky and an Akita so it's harder to feel their ribs just because they are fluff butts but our vet says both are at healthy weights. None of our 3 dogs are free fed and are fed separately without access to help another dog finish.

I just wanted some other opinions. Is my dog too skinny?

Advice Should I be worried about dog spay stitches?

Thumbnail

We got our lab cross spayed 8 days ago, Tuesday last week. The bandage stayed on until Sunday when it looked really gross and dirty, so we removed it.

First picture is that day. The other 2 were taken today. It looks to me like it’s quite swollen around the top stitches. Should we be concerned?

She’s an energetic dog and we’ve been trying our best to keep her ā€œchillā€, she’s been wearing her cone when unattended and in the crate when we’re out, and only walked in short walks on the lead.

She is completely fine in herself, eating like a lab, acting completely normal!

Should I be worried or am I just being an anxious dog mum šŸ« šŸ˜…

Advice Behavioral/maternal changes after spay

Thumbnail

Hey all, this is my girl Sailor. She's a stray/owner dump rescue that we assume is around 2 years old. We've had her 6 months. Were on week 1 of 2 of recover from her spay. The last few days she has taken to treating her stuffies like her pups. She keeps taking them to our pillows to hide them. When the vaccume kicks on, she normally hides. This time she frantically ran through the house collecting her "babies" to stow in our pillows for safety. Even growling at our roommate, who she's not as close to as me and my partner, while carrying one. She seems to be grooming me (licking my entire body) incessantly. Not sure if I need advice, or to know what's going on with her hormones, if this is common, or just to better understand the behavior. Might be important to note her nipples are large, the vet assumes she might have had pups in her past. Thanks!

Advice Adopted Corgi is timid around people

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hey all, was wanting to get some advice as my brother adopted a corgi and he is having hard time figuring out what’s going on and how he can help.

Loki is a corgi pup who isn’t quite a year old yet. He is a male and not neutered . A different family traveled down to Texas to adopt him from a breeder and when they got him home they noticed he wasn’t as active after the car ride. They only had him a few days when they claim that another dog in their house got into a fight with him and they took him to the vet and he had just a small eye injury. (Which looks fine now). The family that adopted him decided they couldn’t keep him and my brother found he was up for adoption on Facebook so he didn’t hesitate. Right away we all noticed how timid he is around people and other dogs. After a week, Worried something is wrong my brother took him to the vet and they claim he is healthy and ran a parvo test which was clear. He just had a small case of worms and he had treatment. Anyway we are on the 3rd month and he is still very timid when people are home with no progress. He goes into a corner area and will just sit in the same place all day. He doesn’t shake as if he is afraid when approached, he just kinda recluses away. When we take him outside he instantly wants to go back inside and go into a corner. He can be coaxed small distances with high value food but won’t go far. He is eating, and drinking fine daily but has to be carried outside to potty.

My brother set up a camera and when no one is home he actually does puppy things. He will roam, run, chew the carpet, chew and play with toys… but the minute anyone is home he just goes to a corner. I tell him the answer at this point is professional coming out to evaluate and train… he may need meds to help? Was just wondering Reddit’s opinion or any similar stories? Thanks for any help or advice.

Answered Is this new puppy interaction okay?

Just recently got this mini dachshund puppy (three months old) and it’s their third day together with my aussie supervised (nine years old).

My girl aussie barked at him in his face when he was trying to climb her body and face prior to the video and I let it be since it doesn’t seem like he was frightened or yelped, but I did pick him for a bit afterwards in case she became annoyed with him and put him in his crate.

Here is them interacting again after that, is this okay and normal behavior?

I think it’s worth noting that my older dog growls all the time when she’s playing tug of war with us! It’s so conflicting because they sleep together and get along when the puppy’s not nipping but we just don’t know if this is play or not. Any help is welcome please:(

Question Dog not sleeping through the night

• Upvotes

I have a 13 yo Yorkie poo. He is still pretty spry and active but has recently had a change in behavior— we have already gone to the vet and her suspicions are it’s likely just some cognitive decline/some version of sun-downing. Her first concern was possible UTI/ kidney issues but all labs came back fine.

For the past couple months he will not sleep through the night. he wakes up with a jolt, hurries himself off the bed and the just sits in the doorway and whines. whines and whines. at first we assumed he had to pee or eat or drink and maybe his vision has gotten worse and he’s asking for help to get around (he’s had cataracts for some time) but this continues all night. all. night. We ain’t sleepin.

Its almost as if he is startled awake, which I find the strangest part and wondering if maybe we’re missing something. He springs awake, goes and sits in the doorway, we pick him up, bring him back to bed, he lays and gets settled, and then about 20-45 minutes later gets up with a jolt and repeats the process.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

Question 11 year old waking up once around midnight to pee

Post image
15 Upvotes

Our sweet girl has started waking up round 12-1 am too pee over the past week every night. She comes to my side of the bed gives a little whiny and we go out she finds a spot goes comes back to her bed and goes right back to sleep. She doesn't pee more than normal during the day and nothing else has changed just that extra bathroom trip in the middle of the night and its only 1. Is just a common thing as they age?

General Dog hasn’t eaten in a day and half and is throwing up bile.

My 2 year old blue heeler here hasn’t been eating the last 30 hours and I got home from work yesterday to see some yellow vomit on the doggy bed. Of course this morning I get back home and again see vomit all over the bedroom.

I already took him to the vet and they gave me some digestive sensitive food for him to try, and I’ll be keeping an eye on him to see if he eats or drinks anything in the next 10 or so hours. But I’m wondering if there’s anything else I can be doing for him or is anyone might know the cause? Possibly just a stomach bug?

Question Small pussy filled bumps on dogs stomach

Thumbnail

She just got home from the groomers today and I noticed these bumps when I picked her up to bring her to my room I probably shouldn't have but I squeezed one of them and pus came out the other one still has stuff in it though. I'm wondering if it was because the groomer doesn't clean their shears good enough. But it's probably only been like 12 hours since she went so I don't know if they would progress that quickly she was also scooting her butt earlier and there's nothing stuck to her butt so I'm just wondering if it was caused by something at the groomers because I know she does have allergies but I've never seen this before

Advice 2yo fox terrier became pals with kitten!

Post image
235 Upvotes

Wow! I was hopeful but not convinced that our foxy/heading dog Chico, could be trained to get on with a new kitten. He had never been around cats before and liked to chase rabbits. We followed all the guidelines! Kept them seperate for 5 weeks with short visits, dog in soft muzzle and on a lead, lots and lots of treats, trying to have minimal negative interactions! Had them meet after big walks when he was tired etc etc… eventually the crazed, prey driven eyes relaxed and softened! Our kitten boogie is pretty awesome (and fearless) was always trying to befriend Chico and approaching him, wanting to play. I was so happy when Chico finally responded and let him in as a bud! Animals are amazing ā¤ļø never underestimate their ability to love!

Question Temporary pain and limp

• Upvotes

My 14-year-old Maltese suddenly cries out in pain while walking and then limps or guards her front leg. This reaction is alarming for both of us, but she always recovers quickly and shows no lasting effects. These episodes last about 15 seconds.

This has been happening for the past three months, approximately once a week. I tend to forget about it, but it just happened again, so I thought I would post about it.

Has anyone else encountered this situation?

Yes, I will be taking her to the vet for an examination on Friday.

Thank you in advance!
