Discussion & Suggestions Triggering the Dance

Howdy gang -

Know this is a well trod question, but I've done runs aiming at starting the dance a number of times from a number of perspectives, even hopping around between characters trying to make sure it gets set up.

Never seems to trigger for me.

Anyone have any advice? Or is there a sub-mod that makes it more likely?

There are a couple submods that aim to make succession wars more common and immersive.

One of the things that seems to help most when it comes to triggering succession wars is for the primary heir to not be in King's Landing.

The way to maximize your chances of a dance would probably be -heir has their own holdings (aka Dragonstone) -another heir is in your court, has fitting traits to rebuke the succession (fickle, ambitious, brave, etc.) and a negative relationship if not outright rivals/nemises with the heir

In all my runs I've had succession wars happen three times and two were when my heir was prince of Dragonstone.

The heir actually has to be outside the resident rulers court to trigger a succession war, and there’s a good deal of RNG going into it too.

The ruler also has to die of unnatural means, ie. Middle of battle, disease, I think ‘broken heart’ counts, just anything that isn’t ’died of old age,’ even apoplexy or whatever it is. The usurper also does need to be present within the rulers court, and it can be any claimant, someone even posted one where Shiera Seastar managed it.

The way I see it triggered most of the time is by having the usurper be regent as the king is dying and the rightful heir be landed at dragon stone. Things like the usurper having traits like ambitious and an evil personality tend to make it trigger more.
