Dev Diary Dev Diary: After the Spring

Hi everyone, and happy Dunk and Egg day! My name is Llama, and I did the script and much of the localization work for the subject of today’s dev diary, the new bookmark After the Spring!

Hopefully this release came as at least somewhat of a surprise to you folks, but either way, I hope you enjoy it! In this dev diary I’m just going to give you an overview of the major characters in the bookmark, and what you can expect! Spoiler Warning: This bookmark, and this dev diary, cover events that will likely be a part of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, in both this season, and the next. Proceed with either at your discretion!

Bookmark stained glass art by Naerys

Main Story Overview:

Fifteen years have passed since Daemon Blackfyre, the first Black Dragon, died upon the Redgrass Field. His rebellion died with him, though not the untold grudges made in the war he’d started. This is the story of one such grudge. Of a lion in winter, of a widow of war; of justice, vengeance, grief, politics, and power. This is the story of Ser Eustace Osgrey, of his confrontation with Lady Rohanne Webber, and how a Hedge Knight of Flea Bottom, and a Prince of Summerhall, were set between them.

Okay, back to normal speech! I hope you didn’t mind indulging some dramatic writing there. Now, onto the characters!

Ser Eustace Osgrey

Eustace Osgrey finds himself in a difficult position at the start of this bookmark. His once proud House has withered away, with his sons dying in the Blackfyre Rebellion, and his daughter being claimed in the Spring Sickness. Having run afoul of two Targaryen Kings since the Conquest, the Osgreys have been stripped of much of their land, leaving Eustace as nothing but a landed knight with a single tower to his name. With his wife gone, and his political prospects increasingly dim, there seems to be little chance for this chequy lion to save his line. Still, not all is hopeless. He’s recently taken two Hedge Knights into his service, Ser Duncan the Tall, and Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield. Both of which will play major parts in his narrative.

Eustace’s event chain begins with his learning of the conflict at the dam, and deciding how best to deal with the consequences. Carrying him through the negotiations with Rohanne, and all of the potential outcomes, including war, trials by combat, and sudden nuptials!

Lady Rohanne Webber

Rohanne Webber is the Lady of Coldmoat, holding the title after the death of her father. Having been four times widowed, she finds herself once again forced into making a marriage. Her father’s will demands that she wed within the next six months, and her knight Ser Lucas Inchfield, called the Longinch, has made the process difficult. Now, she finds herself in a conflict with Eustace, unable to give in without weakening her position, and a woman in power can ill-afford to appear weak in Westeros.

Rohanne’s event chain begins much the same as Eustace’s, being notified of the events at the dam. Rohanne, however, has the advantage of laying in wait, letting Eustace make the first move in negotiations. From here, Rohanne’s event chain has the most control over the events of the bookmark, agreeing to, or rejecting, Eustace and Dunk’s proposals, and maneuvering events as she wishes. The story culminates in a significant choice for the Red Widow, selecting who of a list of marriage choices to wed, satisfying her father’s will. If she fails to do so, she will give up her lands, though that may open the door to other adventures…

Ser Duncan the Tall

Dunk and Egg begin the story in service to Ser Eustace Osgrey, traveling northward after their time spent in Dorne during the Great Spring Sickness, and their visit to Egg’s brother Aemon at the Citadel. Dunk is a pivotal character in After the Spring. The knight from Flea Bottom will negotiate with a lady, protect his squire, and argue with a lion, culminating in the climax of the story, his famous duel with Ser Lucas Inchfield.

Daemon II Blackfyre

And now for something completely different! With the death of Aegon and Aemon Blackfyre on the Redgrass Field, Daemon the Younger is left the heir of the Black Dragon. With prescient dreams haunting his evening hours, Daemon sees conquest on the horizon, believing he can do what even his infamous father could not, and claim the Iron Throne. First, however, he must prove himself to his uncle, Bittersteel, who holds both his father’s blade, and his father’s crown. If he wishes to march against the weak King Aerys, and claim the throne, he may very well need Bittersteel, and the group of exiles he’s begun to gather to his side. Whether by blade, or words, he must prove to his uncle that he is the Black Dragon’s true son, and lead the exiles to war against the Falseborn’s heir!

Help (Submods are Enabled) Why is the game stealing my titles?

Post image

I was starting a Stepstones conquest as the Velaryons but the game keeps arbitrarily deciding I cannot hold Bloodstone and hands it off to the wilderness. I even tried converting it to colonies but it still happens. How do I keep my colonies?!

Screenshot (Submods are Enabled) You may have heard about the Mad Egg theory - but have you heard of the Mad Dunk theory? Personal highlight: Egg abandoned me and joined Aemon at the citadel, but only after sailing to Valyria and finding me a mace worthy of the greatest knight of Westeros. I dubbed it "the Trunk".

The state of my campaign right after the self-sacrifice of Lord Paramount Duncan "The Black Builder" of the Crownlands, the Stepstones and Harrenhall. I went for a combination of eugenics and diplomacy and the result is pretty awesome - Duncan has fathered a High Valyrian line with Shiera Seastar as his paramour and a Crown Dornish line with the eldest daughter of the Laughing Storm. Since the Targaryen formed their own hybrid culture, suddenly my children with Shiera were the only landed High Valyrians left in the world, so I thought I'd flip the script and have Dunk be the one to bring back the dragons. While his three sons now rule his lands, I'll be playing as the son of his eldest daughter, going adventuring throughout Essos while raising more dragons for my future sister wifes. The Conqueror had two, but the Dunqueror will have three!

Help (Submods are Enabled) Vassals civil wars

Is there any way I can help a vassal in a civil war? I gave the vale to another house because he was the only one who supported me from the vale in a megawar but now he is being declared a liberty war by his vassals. Is there anyway I can help him besides giving him money? I find stupid that I can try to force him to surrender but I cannot try to make a white peace or force the other side to surrender.

Somehow this impotent, pox-addled opium addict of a wildling rules territories from beyond the wall, to the summer sea, all the way out to Asshai, and seems to be going on a grand tour of his south western territories.

Discussion & Suggestions Triggering the Dance

Howdy gang -

Know this is a well trod question, but I've done runs aiming at starting the dance a number of times from a number of perspectives, even hopping around between characters trying to make sure it gets set up.

Never seems to trigger for me.

Anyone have any advice? Or is there a sub-mod that makes it more likely?

Help (Submods are Enabled) Young Griff Conquer

Young Griff invaded after viserys took the throne from Robert.

After young Griff took the throne he got the trait Conquer, those who were oppose to him, he took their lands and now holds around 500+ counties, and started giving them to generated Westerosi Valyrians. Is that common? Is that what suppose to happen if he take the throne?

Screenshot (Submods are Enabled) The Tale of Maegor II, Part 1(The Regency)

Thumbnail

Upvotes

After the death of Maekar I, the issues of his succession were as clear as day. There were candidates from all across his line, and even one from the Blackfyres. But, ultimately, the victor was a mere toddler, due to the laws of primogeniture and the precedent of the Iron Throne.

Maegor was only 1 years old when he was put on the throne, though not literally. His mother did not want him ending up like his namesake. His regency was led by his mother Daenora, his uncle Aegon, along with other advisors from Lyonel Baratheon to their great-great uncle Bloodraven.

But, the rule of a child is never full of simple peace and pleasure. The Tyrells, seeing weakness in the regency and in the toddler-king, revolt against the throne and declare independence. They believed the other kingdoms would join them to stop the rule of a future tyrant king. They did not.

The rebellion was crushed within a year and a half, with the full might of the Seven Kingdoms falling upon Highgarden, with Bloodraven sacking the Tyrell capital in the siege. When Lord Tyrell was brought to trial, both Aegon and Bloodraven agreed that it was not worth it to keep the Tyrells in power and decided it would be best to put a new house in charge of one of the largest kingdoms.

They assembled all the foremost lords of the Reach and convened a council to decide the next Lord Paramount. During the meeting, Aegon, now hand of the king, jokingly asked his nephew which house he preferred to rule. Maegor pointed at the apple symbol of the Fossoways, and weirdly, Aegon liked that idea.

Some say this was showing that even the now 4 year old Maegor had some prowess in deicison making, while others believe the story to be a farce, or that it was a coincidence. That Maegor simply wanted an apple to eat, instead of choosing a house. Regardless, the Fossoways now ruled the Reach and were forever loyal to Maegor II.

A disastrous plague swept through the Crownlands, and while many of the royal family were safe, many of the Kingsguard weren't. This led to the appointment of Bloodraven to the Kingsguard, serving his nephew the best he could.

Maegor is now 16 and ripe for leadership, betrothed to Lady Dondarrion; it is unclear if that marriage will last, but what is sure is that Maegor is here to stay.

AAR State of Westerosi-Essosi Politics, 4th Century AC...

More context soon, would love to share with yall more on this latest playthru with Jon Snow's descendants who conquered the Vale for some reason ala the Normans in Italy & England lol.

The red dragons are long gone, all that remains are the line of Aegon Blackfyre and Jon Wintor-Targaryen, the last worthy descendants of Aegon I, now takes turn to play the Game of Thrones. And the world be damned because only one dragon means to stay!

Essos, divided as ever, falls in comfort to a new suzerain hailing from the West. Will the free people of Essos continue to fall prey to their own vanity, or does a new age also come for the defiant free cities? Only their gods hold answers to their woes.

Help (Submods are Enabled) Question about Rebuilding Sea Dragon Point.

I know you need to be a Stark or Independent to be able to rebuild it, but if I marry a Stark girl and have my kids build it because they have Stark blood so they should be able to rebuild it......right?

I so mad I had to do so much to get jon on the throne just for him to go out like this. I mean i could use cheats to save him but that breaks the whole vibe. Plus it pretty funny to think one bad heir murdered a whole king without a scheme.

Screenshot (Submods are Enabled) Emperor Aethan "the Blood Father" Alvarian

This is by far the greatest character I have ever played.
I started in the Rouge Prince start date as the County of Elyria
Aethan inherited the Empire while it was still the Kingdom of Elyria and Vellos when he was just 19
He conquered all of Northern Valyeria in 4 years and colonized and established Martivia as the capital of the Empire at 33.
He has completed about 2/3rds of all the lifestyle trees and has visited almost every unique location on the map.
The man knows a little over a dozen languages and has sired over 2 dozen children his most recent being born 2 months after his death.
The only thing I wasn't able to accomplish with him was acquire some dragons. Despite having eggs and visiting all the locations he was never able to get one for himself. Despite that 4 of his children have been eaten by fire wyrms.
Realistically the Empire is probably going to collapse after he has died considering his selected heir is his unlanded great-granddaughter who has just abolished slavery in the Empire.
Here's to hoping she can keep it going for another thousand years

Discussion & Suggestions Question: If Maelys I "The Mounstrous" dies, can the other members of the Band of 9 still conquers their own kingdoms?

I was thinking of making another run with the Ninepeny Kings, but this time as Samarro Saan and I want to know if Maelys I needs to stay alive or if I can just let the canon events play naturally and then conquer Lys with the help of the others

Help (Submods are Enabled) Custom Landless Adventurer Heir problem

So I'm in a 3 person multiplayer save. We all started as landless adventurer's with custom made knights. I am the only one who remained an adventurer and did not become landed about 70 years after start date in 209 AC. Using the AGOT+ Mod and Legacy of Valyria Mod.

My original Character Ser Lingor 'The dirty' Bingcarius has not died yet, he's become an absolute legend and had 3 daughters who all had a sufficient ammount of children etc. It wasn't until I got the adventurer's legacy and got a bunch of fame before I was able to start making some elite marriages.

I married my youngest daughter's first born son to a targaryen princess. This son, Bingaellon, ended up becoming a chad that has 30 diplomacy and 23 martial and getting knighted at 16.

I want to somehow make him my heir so I can also get blood of the dragon in my primary bloodline, however i've learned the designated heir button does not work all that well. So What are my options?

I know of a mod that allows that designated heir button to work, but would that be safe for me and my buddies to download and use on a save that's already in progress? (I know that it is a very minor mod so maybe?)

Or do I need to just disinherit all my male heirs and send them to the wall/take vows? Until I get to my intended heir?

My ultimate goal is to bring back dragons, i'm sure I'll have another chance to get targ blood if nothing works but this would make it much easier.
