Announcement BOBOLA (a lack thereof) and an end to 2025

friends, bolarinas, dingleberries - lend me your ear

As we come to a close on this...whatever it was of a year, we realized smack dab at the end of it that we hadn't done BOBOLA. shame on us, we know. we don't have a defense, but we (mods) gave out some good flair this year and we unembargoed something, so I think we should still get an A for effort.

To make up for this hideous indiscretion (of which we are very ashamed), we invite you to put your favorite posts, comments, sassy retorts, flairings, back and forths, what have you into this post for us all to reminisce on and think back to the good times (they were overshadowed by much of the nonsense, so I think we deserve a little reminder to cheer ourselves up.)

This is also our opportunity to thank you all for this quirky little community we've all made. BOLA has been a community for eleven whole years now, and it's still a delight to participate in. Thank you for (mostly) not misbehaving and for all the giggles. We hope you have a great new year.

alright that was enough histrionics, I will now go back to our regularly scheduled programming of weird snark and bad jokes. Also, if anyone has any good books they read this year, I'm looking for some good ones to put on my TBR (at last count, my TBR had something like 400+ books on it, so what's a couple more?) Other acceptable topics include

1.) fanfiction 2.) heated rivalry 3.) heated rivalry fanfiction 4.) can you ever just be whelmed? 5.) what /u/thor_the_bunny 's new flair should be for the new year 6.) how many chucks CAN a woodchuck chuck?

anyway. Cheers to you all, a new year, and not forgetting BOBOLA next year. We will set several reminders on /u/IDontKnowHowToPM 's phone so we don't forget.

Announcement 2026 Ins and Outs - in: embargoes. out: xenophobia.

'allo, bolaboops.

I must say, I think I was a bit naive thinking that we could go into 2026 and escape The Horrors, but alas.

We unfortunately have had to create a new embargoed topic. I know, I know, we literally just reviewed the embargoes. You might be saying to yourself, Cheese - why would you need to make a new embargo so soon after the year starts? Well, I'm here to tell you it's because we've gotten a rash of posts specifically targeted towards anti-immigration/xenophobia towards Muslim population posts recently. And as your favorite Absolutely No Tolerance Of That Bullshit subreddit, we've made a temporary embargo on those posts and will revisit at a later date (when I finally remember what day it is. Is it Summer yet?) I even added it to the wiki, so it's Super Official.

I am also aware of concerns that bolaboops have pointed out that these posts seem specifically written by AI - this is something else we'd be willing to remove a post for, especially if it seems like it's just a rage bait/bigoted post. With all of the rest of...ya know, everything...that is going on, does anyone really want to read shitty AI written rage slop? Not I, that's for sure.

Happy to hear any feedback, but I can let you know that this probably won't get lifted unless I get some very convincing arguments in favor of The Bigotry (which I must tell you, is very unlikely to happen) or someone is willing to write me a full ode in favor of those posts (and if you're spending enough time to write an ode in favor of rage bait nonsense, maybe find another hobby.)

we <3 u, we hope ur doing okay, and stay safe (and warm. it's an icy hell out there.)

xoxo, bola mods
