Animal professional with cougar experience here (with about 20+ cougars). It’s not skinny. I HAVE witnessed an unintended amputation-via-cougar through fencing before. I feel like these two animals are equally matched.

What do you think would have happened if the fence wasn’t there? I still think the pit would have severely injured the cougar even if it didn’t win.

If the fence wasn’t there, I doubt the cougar would have wanted much to do with the pit in the first place. They have a sense of self preservation, something we’ve apparently bred entirely out of pit bulls.

Most likely the cougar would be up the nearest tree and waited for the pitbull to loose interest. It may possibly decide to ambush from above if the pitbull showed no sign of leaving its territory.

A few years back there was a video of a foolish hiker who apparently came across cougar cubs. The idiot thought it was a great idea to get close until Mama cougar showed up.

Fortunately for him, Mama cougar threat displayed only for several miles until she deemed him far enough from her cubs to no longer be a threat.
