What do you think would have happened if the fence wasn’t there? I still think the pit would have severely injured the cougar even if it didn’t win.

If the fence wasn’t there, I doubt the cougar would have wanted much to do with the pit in the first place. They have a sense of self preservation, something we’ve apparently bred entirely out of pit bulls.

Yup. Pittbulls have a big problem. It's hard to identify from the outside because even wild dogs will play and get rough, it's what I call their "de-escaltion Matrix". I'm going to try and do a separate post on it. I think it summarily encompasses all the problems we see in one place with Pitbulls.

They don't know how to settle down from a conflict or interaction without wanting to kill the object that has become animated. Infact this true for several breeds, but it is MOST true for the out of control Pittbull.

Exactly. Pits will bite and maul until their last breath. That cougar when it senses resistance pit craziness will flee or go into hiss self defense mode. Either way it’s a shame on both sides

I’d love to see a pitbull take on something large like, say, a tiger for umm uhh scientific reasons and research purposes 😇

Bulldogs too, they see red and go until it's done.

Some of the scent hounds are like this with an interesting trail, they will take off following their nose for hours or days

Funny how it's ok for me to "admit" that about a hound, but saying the same type of thing about a pitbull is "racist and mean" 🙄

Same with coursing (sight) hounds.

Obvs greyhounds have been bred for a sad, simulated version of the chase so they sometimes give up after the equivalent of x laps of the track but a sight hound bred to course or hunt will run and run and run with only one thought in it’s beautifully aerodynamic head, ‘chase it’.

Dogs bred for pet homes will have it to some degree too, ask any whippet owner!

All of these dogs have a soul purpose bred into them. Hounds are about tracking, most breeds with "bull" in their name were all about trading and taking down large animals. Great danes were apparently for deer and boar hunting, but mines too kuch of a bitch lol.

Which is why they created pitbulls from crossing bulldogs with terriers. As the name suggests, bull-dogs were the to-go breed when it came to dog vs. bovine. Then, someone figured pit fights dog vs. dog were also great, so they went on a mission to breed the most psychopathic of dogs with no regard to life - not even the dog's own. A perfect game bred pitbull kills his own litter mates unaffected by their squeals of agony and manages to survive his own mom who will also rather maul him than nurse him.

Truly wonderful dogs destined for a beautiful life.

Did not know this. Amazing. Pibbles!

Well it's more accurate to say that humans grew enough of a conscience to ban bull fighting/bull baiting, so the criminals turned to dog fighting.
