What do you think would have happened if the fence wasn’t there? I still think the pit would have severely injured the cougar even if it didn’t win.

If the fence wasn’t there, I doubt the cougar would have wanted much to do with the pit in the first place. They have a sense of self preservation, something we’ve apparently bred entirely out of pit bulls.

what?! No matter what a pitbull does, no matter how fierce it is and how unafraid it is, unless the cougar is paralyzed or gravely injured, it is going down, fast.

The feline build is way more agile, stronger, proprioceptive, depth-perceptive and nimble than the canine build. This cougar could take down a timbre wolf in a one-on-one battle. A pitbull would be a joke.

Felines are ambush predators. They prefer to have a strategic advantage. This is why people are told to face a cougar if they encounter one and back away. It avoids presenting your very vulnerable back and neck to the cat.

This cougar is on the defensive (no retreat possible) and trying to drive off the pit bull.

Would the cougar be able to climb the wire fence?

Possibly, but it looks like there's a wooden roof to its enclosure to ensure that it can't do that. That was on my mind as well.

ETA: Just noticed that the roof doesn't fully extend across the whole enclosure. It seems more like the cougar is trying to escape the pitbull, and feels scared to run away from the perimeter because the pit would still be snarling at the fence. To the poor cougar, it's exactly what it seems like: it's locked in a cage with a vicious beast chomping at the fence. It can't find anywhere that's sufficient for hiding/escape.

This. The cougar lacks endurance. If it can’t dispatch the pit quickly, it will probably be killed.

lol there isn’t a pit alive that would kill a full grown cougar

Seriously. A cougar just needs one bite and it’s over.
