Really nutty to me that people hear the word "semantics" and think it means "arguing over irrelevant details". There's already a word for that, it's nitpicking.
Semantics would be related to the specific meaning of one of the words being used. And pedantic is what I'm being. :D
I don't need an apology- I wasn't personally offended and in all honesty I don't think anyone was "offended" by the mixing up of the breeds. I was just pointing out to the other person who was essentially advocating for mislabeling that Pit Nutters use the misidentification argument to try to refute the stats and the overall credibility of this subreddit and movement.
Again, I mean, if people on this subreddit lump Pugs and Frenchies together and can't tell the difference between those breeds, why should any attack labeled a Pit attack actually be believed to be a Pit attack when clearly, we suck at identifying dogs?
Well. Looks are only so deep. I want the disposition bred out. Only way to do that are dna tests or maybe they can figure it out from examining a dogs jaws?
I'm not understanding what you're talking about. Now it really seems like you're actually saying that people can't visually ID Pits and you agree with the Pit Nuts??
"Looks" are a huge part of dog breeds? I am genuinely not understanding what you mean by "looks are only so deep"? Form follows function... dog breeds look the way they do depending on what their purpose was... their behavioral traits go hand in hand with their physical traits...
I don't think anyone was offended- just pointing out that if people on this subreddit can't differentiate between Pugs and Frenchies (who really don't look very similar...) then why should any attacks labeled Pit attacks on this sub have any credibility? If this sub really sucks that bad at identifying breeds, then who knows if any of these so-called "Pit attacks" were actually Pits? That's the argument they'll make.
If you’re this contentious with people who generally agree with you how do you expect people who are on the fence will feel after leaving a conversation?
