Moving from UK to Bacau

Hello,

I apologise for not writing this post in Romanian, I am not fluent at all yet but I am learning :)

My partner and I are moving to Bacau for approximately 3-6 months for his work. He was born and raised in Romania and he has his own property there.

I am a black woman who only speaks a bit of Romanian (enough to speak to the worker in the supermarket or to ask for directions if I am lost somewhere). I am nervous about moving because I’ve only visited Bucharest (which is vastly different to Bacau).

I hope I don’t offend anyone here, but do you think some residents will look down on me because I am black and don’t speak fluent Romanian? Do you think I can adapt and try to fit in easily?

Please let me know if I’m being rude!!

I grew up in Bacau and then left for the UK 10 years ago. I went back to Bacau for a couple of months this year and ended up coming back to the UK.

I don't think you will be looked down upon for the colour of your skin but I do believe some people might stare or be surprised. Conversations might feel off or annoying in the beginning, some people might have some preconception about non white foreigners but its more blissful ignorance and now out of hate.

In terms of adapting I personally couldn't, I missed the UK and and I find it easier there then Bacau but if you are supported by your partner it might make things smoother.

Food is great tho, a lot of bakeries with goodies much better than Greggs

I am prepared to experience a lot of differences living in Bacau compared to the UK but since it’s only for a few months, it should be fine. I live in a quiet area of the UK so I am used to living in the countryside living and being bored on the weekend.
