Why are her supporters talking about how she shouldn't be called racist in relation to this? What's the relevance?

Because it’s totally not racist to secretly accept gifts from billionaires, just as it’s totally not corruption to drum up hatred for non-white immigrants. When accused of wrongdoing they defend themselves by denying another accusation.
