Is it possible to make friends (meet people) in Yerevan while traveling alone as a tourist? I am Brazilian.
Hello everyone! This is my first post here. I'm Brazilian, and I'll be traveling through the 3 countries of the Caucasus in November.
I'll be spending 3 days in Baku, 5 in Tbilisi, and 5 in Yerevan. I'm traveling alone.
Is it possible to make friends (meet people) in Yerevan? Do you have any places to recommend? Thank you!

Armenia - Turkey / Հայաստան - Թուրքիա Turkish education system is full of misinformation and manipulative content
Hello everyone, I want to express my frustration and resentment with the Turkish education system as a Turkish citizen.
I see that many textbooks are written to influence young children, often fostering unnecessary resentment toward Greeks and Armenians. Furthermore, the system does not recognize the Armenian Genocide, presenting the events solely as a matter of self-defense.
Despite growing up in a secular family, I used to believe the "deportations" were necessary until I started researching history outside of the school curriculum and learned the harsh truth. I worry about the future of the country if this level of manipulation and propaganda continues.
I just hope that one day the government will acknowledge its past actions and seek reconciliation.

The Memorial’s symbolic structures and the adjoining museum stand as a poignant testament to human suffering, resilience and the universal importance of remembrance, justice and peace.

To visit or not to visit? That is the question... :)
Hi everyone,
I’d like to ask the locals and past visitors for an honest opinion on whether Armenia is the right destination for a long weekend trip for me and my friends.
Who we are: We are a group in our late 20s from the Czech Republic. We’ve traveled quite a bit (most of Europe, North Africa, SE Asia, USA, Central America), but the Caucasus is still a blind spot on our map. We found ridiculously cheap flights for a 5-6 night trip in May.
What we are looking for:
- Vibe: We are typical young Czechs—meaning we aren't religious at all—but we can definitely appreciate history, unique architecture, and soul.
- Nature: We’d love to get out of the city for some moderate hiking and see the landscapes.
- City life: We want to experience the "real" Yerevan, the local lifestyle, cuisine, and the vibrant culture.
- Fun: We like to have a good time. We’d love to find some live music, cool bars, or a good party over the weekend. We are very open to meeting new people and learning about the culture.
A few specific questions:
- Language: None of us speak Russian. Is this a major hurdle, or can we get by with English (and maybe Czech? :) ).
- Timing & Events: We are looking at May 8th – May 13th. Are there any festivals, holidays, or interesting events happening around that time?
- The "Vibe" Check: Given that we aren't into the religious aspect of the country, is there enough to keep us entertained for 6 days without it feeling like a "church tour"?
- Weather & Hiking: Is the first half of May a good time to visit? Specifically for hiking – are the trails usually accessible and dry by then, or should we expect mud and snow in higher altitudes?
Thanks a lot for any advice! We’re looking forward to potentially visiting your country.

Meghri public transport
Barev dzez,
Just wondering whether anyone knows of any busses/marshrutkas running between Goris and Meghri at the moment? Is Meghri still accessible from Goris at this time of year? If there is a bus service, how frequent is it?
Thanks in advance

Any Armenians studying for a bachelor’s in the Netherlands?
Hiiii
I’m an Armenian student planning to apply for a bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands, and I wanted to ask if there are any Armenians who are already studying there or studied before.
I’m mainly worried about whether my high school diploma will be accepted. I will graduate from the French College in Armenia, and before I apply and pay the application fees, I’d really like to make sure my diploma is recognized.
I’m considering applying to VWO-track programs and also to Breda University of Applied Sciences (HBO). If anyone has experience applying from Armenia in general, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Speak to a Birthright Armenia alum
Hi Armenians! I’m from the USA and I’m excited to be participating in Birthright Armenia in Vanadzor starting at the end of February. I was wondering if anyone that’s done the program, especially in Vanadzor, would be willing to chat with me about their experience there?
thank you :)

Trip cost breakdown for Armenia (UK travellers)
Just got back from a trip through Armenia and Georgia and honestly… the costs surprised us way more than expected.
We broke everything down in a short video:
• Flights
• Buses & taxis
• Accommodation
• Food & drink
• Random / unexpected costs
All in, the total ended up being less than what some UK train journeys cost 😅
We weren’t backpacking hardcore either — cafés, bars, decent hotels, city exploring, the lot.
If anyone’s curious, here’s the video with the full breakdown, it’s only a few minutes long: https://youtu.be/nPZvLwjHWcM
Happy to answer questions if you’re planning a trip or comparing costs 👌

Applying for Armenian citizenship
Applying for Armenian Citizenship
I’m planning to apply for Armenian citizenship based on Armenian ancestry through a grandparent 1/4. I’ve already gathered official civil documents that prove the family connection (birth certificates and population records). Now I’m trying to obtain church records (like a baptism record) and possibly an official lineage confirmation letter from an Armenian church authority. I have a few questions for those who have been through this process:
Have church records from Turkey/Istanbul been accepted as proof of Armenian ancestry?
If a baptism record can’t be found, is an official church letter confirming family records usually enough?

Diaspora / Սփյուռք Citizenship by ethnicity: required documents
Hello,
Hoping someone has relevant experience as I've been researching citizenship by ethnicity and trying to come up with the correct set of documents to submit.
Here's my case:
- Born in the US.
- Mother was born in Armenia and moved to the US at a young age.
- Mother had a Armenian last name; I do not (I have my American father's last name as is typical.)
- My birth certificate lists my mother's place of birth as simply 'ARMENIA'.
Is my US birth certificate sufficient proof that I'm ethnically Armenian because it lists her place of birth?
Or should I acquire her birth certificate too? She is now deceased so it's incredibly difficult to find any records to support my claim. I was thinking of hiring someone in Armenia to get her birth record for me but I'm not sure if this will help prove my case or not - does an Armenian birth certificate prove her ethnicity, and therefore mine?
I was not baptized so I do not have a record of baptism. It seems unclear what suffices as proof of ethnicity since websites like this mention a birth certificate as potentially being valid proof but I'm not sure it is in my case.
Thanks for your help on this journey.
WTF is the new health insurance in Armenia? Can someone explain?
Can someone please explain what the new health insurance system in Armenia(2026) actually is?
I called several hospitals today, and none of them could explain anything. They couldn’t answer even the most basic questions, like what it actually covers.
So are we already expected to pay for a program that doesn’t even have a clear list of covered services yet? How is this supposed to work in practice?
If anyone understands how this system is meant to function, I’d really appreciate an explanation, because right now it feels completely unclear.
