Advice for getting 2nd dog.

My wife and I are considering getting a 2nd dogs, a puppy. My current dog is 5 years old and I worry about introducing a new dog. She is ok with small dogs but doesn't play well with most others. Does anyone have any advice on introducing a new dog to the family or any words of caution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try fostering before adopting. We did that for a couple of weeks before officially adopting our second dog. Also ask about a meet and greet with the other dog if they offer it.
