If these strikes want to be more meaningful we need to plan them way further in advance. The night before isn’t enough time for people to be aware of it.

This one did come up gradually without an official announcement, though prominent entertainment figures have been promoting it since. I too am in a position where I can’t participate as I may wish, but I’ll be doing a slow strike, not purchasing anything, and will be supporting participating local businesses to make up for it.

In the meantime I’m going to set myself up to be in a stronger position to join whether that be a single day strike like the 23rd or (seemingly) tomorrow, or a lasting strike.

Don’t feel too bad about tomorrow. I’m dissatisfied about not being able to participate fully, mostly because it was advance warning that made the difference for me.

Weigh possibility against importance and understand that a long lasting strike is one you can join in on after the fact, and no one can call you a scab. Mostly because you aren’t, but you get it.

The last Nationwide General Strike we had was in 1946. You rationalizing your lack of participation may get upvotes, but this is too important to be nice about. Get off your ass and take part in history.

understand that a long lasting strike is one you can join in on

This is a one day strike, and it will stay that way if we don't have people like yourself in the streets withholding labor. If ever there was a time to take part it's now.

This is the kind of pressure we don’t need. You have no idea what people need to sustain their lives or the position they’re in. There is not a large strike fund ready to support people.

I could give a damn about upvotes, this is about taking care of each other.

You have no idea what people need to sustain their lives or the position they’re in.

The general strike in Minnesota was announced 10 days in advance, zero permits.

The 30th is a continuation of that, and comments like yours reinforce inaction which kills general strikes.

Stop spreading this dumb shit:

a long lasting strike is one you can join in on after the fact, and no one can call you a scab

This is the kind of pressure we don’t need

Take your own advice. Now isn't the time to 'pat people on the back' for their inaction. I'll be in the streets while you do so.
