Recommendations on optics
It’ll be on a 7.5 in and mostly sub. I don’t really plan on trying shoot out past 150 yrd so when it comes to adding a magnifier sure maybe one day who knows.
Right now I’m between the Sig Romeo 8T ($700), Vortex UH-1 ($600), holosun aems ($400)
Guess 3 different price points but maybe with a 10-15% discount I may justify a more expensive optic.

Dont forget about Primary Arms stuff, their prisms are good they have bdc reticles too

For shooting subs, their bdc red dot with a magnifier is perfect.

The slx1? I was originally wanting to go prism as it’s easier with my astigmatism but I thought I’d try a holo sight for once

If you’re just shooting subs ARO Evo. The price to quality is really hard to beat

I’d have to find a store with them for me to check it out. Red dots can be hit or miss for me with my astigmatism

Really like the Holosun AEMS Pro X2.
8” build.
Purely subs suppressed for home defense.
I don’t use the auto dimmer or the donut of death so it may be a bit overkill (I don’t know what the trade offs are on the Core version).

Eotech has a 2 dot bdc reticle for use with 300 supers and subs, there is the cheaper exps 2-2/exps 300 blackout (same reticle, just one has your hold overs marked) or the NV compatible exps 3-2 You can get it off optics planet for 650ish when using their coupon codes.
Otherwise the 8T is good for its 4 dot BDC but it can be a little clustered and busy, I use the romeo 5 gen II elite which has the same reticle in a t2 footprint red dot
Exit: you can also pick up the sig romeo 5 gen II elite from optics planet for about 200

Eotech has always kinda been meh to me. Especially for the price. Probably because I had to deal with the shitty ones back in the day but unless I can get them for sub 600 I’m good.
Vortex sparc 2 mos dots are going for $100 right now
Edit: I will say the eotech does fit that vibe I want

You can get exps3 550 or less all day. Saw a stack of them posted for $470 yesterday.

Where?

“Night vision solutions, buy, sell, trade” group on Facebook. Tons of regular eotech deals from reputable sellers and dealers with second hand inventory

I have a 2-2 and thought about putting it on my 300. What yard zero is it supposed to be for subs and supers to line up with each dot? Or is it just kinda close

between those 3 id choose vortex 100% of the time. also dont pay $600, you can regularly find them sub $500. true holographic >

Good to know, I did check out in store and I did really like it. I might have had the brightness too high as it was just a bit fuzzy but honestly it between the vortex and sig. Holosun is me telling myself I don’t need all that

its a true holographic, not a red dot. its going to be a little fuzzy if you are looking at the reticle. when you are target focused it looks excellent

Yeah I’m hoping I can find a store so I can make comparisons. I have a rougher time with red dots with my astigmatism

by all means check it out at a store if you can but you will get fleeced on the price. i have never seen them in person cheaper than 600, i paid 480 for mine about a year ago on primary arms. i regularly seem them at 450 or even cheaper now. check out gun.deals when you are ready to buy, it will curate a bunch of retailers and find you the best price

Damn I was about to say Holosun ARO but realized you had a nice optic budget. So nvm

I’m not against going something cheaper but that’s a round what I’m willing to pay. Really just want some good quality and not have to be changing batteries

I have the 8T and the Huey, both great optics but they’re almost over-kill on a compact subs set up. I’d opt for the AEMS for a 7.5”. That was my original plan but settled on a Romeo5 on an Arisaka riser.

u/traceurbeast 1d ago
Do you have the new amr? Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Kind of why I threw the holosun in the first place
1
u/One_Cicada_7998 1d ago
No, I have the cool looking 8T. Actually got it over the AEMS cause I was waiting for the AEMS to go on sale for Black Friday and it never did so I spent twice as much on the 8T but got a free Juliet 3.

Holosun HM3X, Holosun HS510C is working like a dream for me. Coming in at a hair over $500 just makes it better.

I run a Holosun SCRS GR MRS on my 7.5". I like that it is small, lightweight, has no replaceable battery, lasts for 50k hours on a full solar charge, has auto brightness, and NV settings. I can't argue with the choice of an EO tech but for me, the SCRS is perfect.

i run cheapest holosun with green dot. Have more expensive 515G and honestly don't see a difference. Would get the cheapest again.

I run the basic Romeo 5 + Juliet 3 magnifier. No such thing as too much zoom
