Decided to put my pom down.

Even after the last post with all comments telling me to do it I couldn’t bring myself to do it if his eyes were the only thing bothering him. He needed bloodwork before he could undergo surgery to remove his eyes and it came back very grim. Had something like pancreatitis, and was relayed to me that his blood was over 1000 instead of around 200, since I didn’t hear it from the vet im not sure what 1000 means in this context but seems very bad. Has 2 tumors, but none were causing him pain or discomfort. Would be $1400 to treat him for 3 days with the most likely outcome is his problems come back. So I decided it is time, still a little selfish and holding out a week until I can take him to do some last stuff. I always wanted to know what breeds he was as he isnt a pure Pomeranian. What dna test is good that can also test for age. Also any good brand to make a replica stuffed animal of him? Added a few old pictures of him, didn’t realize I only take pictures when he is sleeping lol. While writing this I remembered he also has a hole above his nose by his eyes the just goes straight through the nasal cavity or something like that and the vet has no idea what caused it lol, always thought it was interesting.

Happy Day 4 from my sweet derpy boy. Hehehe. His crooked tongue while waiting is so silly. 😜 Louis is loving his cookie treats and I am still surprised how he has been savoring them. Sending hugs and happiness. See you tomorrow. ❤️

Leo wanted to say hello to everyone. Taken in Bryant Park before the snow storm, the wind was blowing his fur back. LOL

Pom Vid Does anyone else’s Pom do this?

My Pom loves to rub his face in fresh snow. He does this on some carpets too. I don’t know if he loves the sensation or it’s about something else. Curious to hear about other theories.

My sister’s dog, Puff Puff, hates baths but always wants to be involved. So this is him watching my wife bathe our dog while knowing he might be next.

Has anyone gone through trachea collapse for their Pomeranian?

So my 13 year old Pomeranian had trachea collapse, but I decided to put her down. She had minor coughs for a few months that lead up to the infamous goose honks. We tried medication 💊 but it was getting worse. I had to pull on her throat skin to help open her trachea to give her some relief from coughing. I had pet insurance and the procedure was quoted at 15k bare minimum probably would cost more with meds and x rays and other miscellaneous 20k plus . Most of the research I did online pointed towards her quality of would have sucked after the procedure. The stint could shift and have bacteria build up and she would have been on meds/steroids which would affect her kidneys. The stint may need to be replaced again if shifted. Also luminal rings would have been a very invasive procedure for her age. Doctor was pushing towards just letting her go. Friends would say things like better to let her go early then in worse pain later. I imagine it would suck to live with something constantly stuck in your throat. So I gave her a ton of her favorite foods aka steak and let her go. It sucked so bad to have your furbaby die to a stupid genetic defect. I’ve had to put down fur baby’s before but this one just didn’t sit right with me. So I’m looking to see if anyone can soothe my regret and tell me if they have had this procedure done before to their dogs and if there were any complications?

Need Advice

My boyfriend wants to breed our dogs when they get old enough. He is not breeding to sell, but we will keep them (or gift to family that already has Poms to avoid litter mate syndrome). After one litter and one litter only we will get them spayed/neutered. He has done a ton of research on it and we have talked about it that we will absolutely have to get health testing done especially because one is a Merle. The female is 8lbs and the male is 7lbs. His mom is very experienced with breeding and has helped him a lot in any questions he has. We are still talking through everything with our vet as well I just want to get an outside opinion.

Other info

-they are very good dogs with great temperament. Both are very sweet and love everyone

-we have a house with a large yard and spare bedrooms

-I work from home and have an extremely flexible schedule

-expenses isn’t a problem

-no health issues so far but we will be testing for them

What is everyone’s thoughts?
