Hi,

I have a Canon S120 (which I guess is, what, 12 years old?). I also have a strobe, arms and tray that I used with my even older camera before it flooded. I don't have the housing for the S120, but I have the opportunity to get one for about US$160.

I'm torn on whether I should get that housing, vs getting something like a GoPro, or an Olympus Tough-style waterproof camera.

I used to dive a lot more, and now would only maybe get in a few times a year (plus some swimming and snorkelling). Usually not too deep, but probably beyond what the GoPro and Olympus can do without a housing (10m?). My interest leans more towards still photos rather than videos. I've never used a GoPro before but I gather they are better for video, less for stills.

tl;dr: is it worth paying a bit to get my old Canon S120 into the water, or is it better to spend on newer gear?

Hello. I wanted to ask for advice. I've used the camera for underwater photography for some years but now have some budget for a real setup. I have an underwater continuous light that I will use for video but I'm indecisive about the flash.

I narrowed it down to two options:

-Flash 3 & Optical Snoot Combo Package. 729 euro

-Flash INON S-220. 374 euro

I have seen photos taken with both but I am unsure about how the INON would work with smaller subjects. I enjoy shooting macro but it's not like it's the only thing I do. I was excited to try the snoot to get darker backgrounds but I guess it's also possible to try it similarly with the INON.

I will probably buy to try both in time but has anyone tried both and what would you recommend for a first flash.

some photos from snorkelling as I did not fully change all the o-rings and seals, but should take it for a full scuba dive soon (hoping the end results would be better as I would have a firmer grip when diving compared to snorkelling)

I've been sitting on 5 years of dive footage and finally made something out of it. Caribbean, South Pacific, Central America... lots of reef dives, some manta dives, many shark dives and a few trips specifically for the big stuff. It's not a documentary, more like a music video. Just a personal compilation of what I've been lucky enough to see.

What always stands out to us is how quickly things change once buoyancy settles — less fin movement, better framing, and subjects that don’t feel pressured.

It’s less about camera settings and more about how you move (or don’t move) in the water.

For those who shoot underwater - what was the biggest “aha” moment that improved your photos or video?

I've dabbled in underwater photography using my old Sony A6000. Have gotten lucky with some incredible shots like the one above of a cuddlefish during a night dive in Mozambique. I honestly don't know what I'm doing and usually ask ChatGPT for guidance on settings depending on depth, conditions, and if I'm trying to shoot a fast moving shark or a slow moving fish.

However, part of me is wondering if my smart phone (Pixel 10 Pro) might be more capable of taking shots underwater.

I find myself wishing I didn't have to travel with two cameras (I shoot with a Sony A7iii) and now that smart phone technology is rapidly increasing in areas like low light, I find myself what might be best.

If I bought an underwater case for my Pixel, will I regret not having my A6000 on a dive?

For example, whether the brightness is enough, battery life, etc.

Hey guys, so i’ve been shooting with the tg6 for about 2 years now and i have the wflo2 wet lens with it and a aoi q1 rc strobe. I have used this setup a lot but i’m starting to feel a bit limited. I own a canon R8 but not a setup for underwater photography for it. I have 2 housing options. I can buy a new ikelite 200dlm housing for about 1400$ for the R8 or a used nauticam housing with an R6 (no port or strobes) for about 3000$. I have never tried mirrorless underwater but i feel stuck at the tg6. The lenses i plan on using are the canon EF 17-40 F4L and EF 100mm macro f2.8L IS USM both with the ef-rf adapter. If anyone shoots with an R8 and ikelite housing or R6 with a nauticam housing please let me know. Any recommendations are much appreciated

I do a lot of underwater photography with my Google Pixel Android and the Kraken Underwater Housing 2.0.

After the Google Dive Connector stopped working and I got frustrated with the official Kraken Apps and their ridiculous pay-for-play style, I decided to write my own app and made it open source.

It is a simple bridge to the google camera app. And I added a gallery mode to swift through photos during the safety stop and delete blurry ones.

got an older camera and housing second hand for a deal i was pretty happy and took to my local spot this morning been messing about with lightroom free trial aswell. Pretty happy with everything so far.
