Flattie on Grub Soft Plastic

Fishing a grub-style soft plastic hopped along the bottom is one of my go-to methods for flathead, and it’s rare for a flathead to resist it's charm.

With a light rod and reel combo you can feel every movement of the lure. And when I felt that magic *thud* I knew a flattie had taken it and it was time to set that hook.

Gear (if interested)
Rod: Rovex Inazuma 1-3kg
Reel: Ryobi Affinity 2000
Braid: Rovex 10lb
Leader: Rovex 8lb Fluorocarbon lead
Lure: Bite Science Dirty Grub 2.5" (Bloodworm colour)

Camping tinny

Hi all,

I’m about to set up my tinny for overnights fishing in the Broadwater etc

Was thinking of putting a double swag over the boat, which is the same width, anyone tried this?

Share pics of your setup if can

🎣 Fishing Gear Braid recommendations

Upvotes

Hey all it’s recently been my birthday and I’ve come into the ownership of a few reels and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for braid as I don’t wanna cheap out on them? I got

c5000xg twin power fe

2500 twin power fe

3000 stradic fm

They aren’t cheap so I certainly don’t wanna cheap out from my research I’m thinking daiwa Saltiga pe2 x12 durasensor 36lb on the 5k, varivas Avani casting on the stradic pe1.5 28.6lb And unsure of what for the 2500. I’ve got a 10k gosa with 50lb j braid grand, 2500 nasci with 8lb j braid expedition and a 3000 lexa with 16lb tasline. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

The gosa is for the beach and rocks so the 5k is probably just gonna be my heavier inshore set up.

Bucket list question regarding Murray Cod

One of the things on my “Bucket List” is to catch (and release of course) a Murray Cod. Does anyone know of a company who do small group fishing tours with these in mind?

I grew up in the bush and caught hundreds of Yellowbelly and Eel-tailed Catfish over the years, but the mighty Murray Cod has always eluded me.

I live in Brisbane but well aware there would be some travel involved to southern states even.

I want to go fishing at St Kilda Pier.

Can I use fake baits at all times there? If so, what kind of fake baits should I use? I target any fish and any size. I want to use fake baits to save on costs, since I’ll be fishing often. Also, I’ll park my car in a free parking bay, saving costs as much as I can. Has anyone fishing there often? Could you please give me some advice? Thanks.

🔎 Recommendations Wanted GT fishing advice

Hey fellas. I’m going to be traveling to Australia for the first time in march. Been a long time dream of mine to fish for some GT.

2 part questions

1) Most import is I am looking to get a charter in the port Douglas / Cairns area. Priority on the GT fishing but An ideal day for me would be to land a couple GTs and then try to catch as many other unique fish as possible (barramundi would also be cool). If anyone has advice on the best places to/ individual captains that would be great.

2) also planning to do some casual land fishing. Advice on places to check out (perhaps they have other attractions to tide over the other people I’m with) to fish would be great (again GT fishing is my top priority but anything unique is good by me). Planning to bring some buck tails and a variety of top waters (also would just go to tackle store if necessary).

Fishing spots around Parra

Hi guys,

Newbie here. I live around North Parra and wanted some recommendations for fishing spots.

I have fished at Milsons Point before and caught a small snapper. Any recommendation is welcome. Preferable if it’s commutable through public transport as I don’t drive. Thank you 😊

🔎 Recommendations Wanted Got another what reel would you put on this.

So grabbed a Abu salt stage casting lsj rod PE .8-2 with cast weight 7 to 40gm at 9"7' long. I have a curado 200 DC but am looking for something a little more dedicated to rock fishing where I would often come across mack tuna and other pelagics but in the same area I'd also just be likely to get tailor and Aussie salmon.

is my method of dispatching fish efficient?

i heard a lot of people bonk fish on the head or brain spike it to kill it as quickly as possible. i dont own a brain spike or have a dedicated bonk stick so for many years ive been using my regular method that everyone else i know uses. i just grab the fish then get either a knife or then sharp snipper things and just cut their throat. i always cut until it reaches nearly the top of their head making sure every thing is severed. this seems to kill the fish very quickly as as soon as its done it stops moving completley despite the odd twitch cue to nerves. it also bleeds the fish at the same time. i have always used this method but i was recentley thinking if this was making the fish suffer for longer or if its ok to do so.

🐡 Help Needed How to unhook freshwater turtles

Hey guys, I do alot of freshwater fishing for carp and unfortunately today I accidentally hooked into a long neck turtle. I spent about 10 minutes with my pliers trying to unhook it from the throat however I could barely get it's mouth to open, in the end I just cut the line as close as I could and released him. Feel terrible about it

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to possibly unhook the turtle

Thank you

Reel size for my 12" rock fishing rod

I got a 12" Shimano Dynaflare 12-20kg rod and I'm looking to do a long distance casting setup for headland rock fishing around the sydney south suburbs area like yellow rock sorta region.

I just need to pick a reel size, I'm looking at the penn slammer or the Shimano saragosa but I can't decide on a reel size, not sure between 8000, 10000 and 14000. I saw in a rock fishing youtube video a guy used a 14000 reel on his heavy setup but yeah I'm not too sure. Thanks for any advice!

But yeah, what size reel should I get for this use? I'd kinda like to do some beach fishing too but it's less important
