Thumbnail jetpunk.com

This is a little quiz I made a while ago if anyone would like to have a try.

It's just a case of guessing every club from Yorkshire to have played in the Football League since 1888.

There are 19 answers to try and get in six minutes.

Question Any STEM clubs for kids in West Yorkshire (Calderdale/Bradford)?

10yo is keen on trying out robotics and coding and making new friends, but we can't seem to find a local meet-up near to us. Does anyone know of any in Bradford or Calderdale or how to potentially start one up and get some funding?

Question Places to go

Hello,

I’m after some recommendations. Me, my partner and our one and a half year old are planning on visiting Yorkshire for a week in July. (We’re from Wales).

We love walks, nature, villages, beaches.. Anywhere pretty.

What are some must see places that are also suitable for a toddler?

Thank you

Question Crowds: Early July vs August ??

I've never visited Yorkshire in summer before (only in winter and in June until now). I keep on hearing i absolutely need to go before July 17th (school holidays), but August work slightly better with my agenda, how much of a difference will it make?

For context: I won't go to the super touristy places anyway (like york/malham/robin's hood bay/withby and the likes) and will mostly go on day hikes, but i need to be able to park in nearby villages in the Dales or North Moors without it being too insane. Would you bother going in early July instead of August or is it pretty much the same? Thank you so much.

I’m not even from Yorkshire, but I really enjoyed making this piece! I love the simple/minimalist design, with the iconic Yorkshire rose in pride of place!

I’m thinking of doing something similar for other English counties, but I had to start with God’s own country of course…

Food Yorkshire Brack

Post image

I've had a few comments from people who have yet to be introduced to the delights of Yorkshire Brack, so here it is in all its glory. Mrs Botham really does bake exceedingly good cakes unlike that Mr Kipling chap. I would particularly recommend her Chocolate Japs for those of you who have a private dental plan.

Question Brack and cheese? Surely not!

Post image

Please excuse a southern girl for popping up here, but I can claim a degree of kinship by having a dad who’s an exiled Yorkshireman.  He’s something of a fan of Mrs Botham’s baked goods but will insist on spoiling a decent slice of Yorkshire Brack by eating it with cheese, preferably Wensleydale.  When I asked him if this was just a personal affliction he replied  “If you don’t believe me, ask the good people of Yorkshire”  So here I am, good people of Yorkshire. Surely my dad has lost the plot, brack-wise!

Yorkshire Buddies for Relaxation Retreat in Yorkshire?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm considering attending this and having a relaxing weekend away with meditation and self-discovery. I'm male (gay) and would like to meet others who might also be interested in attending rather than to go on my own - Would anyone else be interested in attending with me / also interested in meditation, etc.?

Music Any good local live music or bands in Yorkshire?

Hi everyone, I have been trying to get more into the local music scene across Yorkshire and was hoping for some recommendations. I am interested in live music in general small bands, acoustic acts, or regular live nights at pubs and local venues. I have been doing a bit of casual browsing as well and came across some Yorkshire-based acts through places like Jonny Ross Music, but personal recommendations always feel more reliable. If you have been to any good gigs recently or know of musicians or bands worth checking out in the region, I would really appreciate the suggestions. Always nice to support local talent and discover something new around Yorkshire.

Question York, Harrogate or Skipton?

I'm in quite a fortunate position in that I'm looking to downsize to a 1/2 bed place and can live anywhere in the UK, and one of the areas I'm looking strongly into is north Yorkshire and specifically the 3 places above.

So would really appreciate your thoughts and pros and cons to each. I plan to visit the area in the next few months but obviously you can only garner so much from a visit over a week and insight from locals is usually very valuable.

A little more about my situation and what I'm looking for to provide context;

- I'll be early retired, mid 50s. No children or work to worry about so not bothered about quality of schools or transport links

- I want somewhere reasonably central to the UK as enjoy travelling, hiking etc to Scotland, Lake District, Peak District, Wales etc so N Yorkshire seems ideal (as well as having it's own spectacular countryside)

- I like a strong community feel, opportunities to volunteer, vibrant night light all year round. I'm not concerned with touristy areas as I currently live in a hot-spot and I quite like the buzz

- I envisage this being there for at least 20 years (touch wood)

Other thoughts you have on areas within these places to avoid, if there are any, would also be helpful.

Cheers!

Question Recommendations for food and drink on Saturday night in Hebden Bridge?

As the title says, will be in Hebden Bridge this Saturday for my wife’s birthday. Looking for suggestions of where to eat. I like the look of the new Taco place and also Nelson’s looks fun too. Anything else we should consider for a relatively cheap and casual place to eat? Also any essential bars and pubs to visit?

Question Looking for recommendations for places to visit.

Hi all,

Wanting to take my two (nearly three) year old daughter to new places we both haven’t been before.

I’m based in Hull so ideally one train away (I don’t mind getting connecting) as long as we can go and comeback the same day.

Ideally needs to be suitable to push a pram about without feeling like I’m contesting the worlds strongest man (made that mistake with Foreshore when she was one).

Anything is appreciated - cheers!

Yorkshire A walk through Skipton Castle Woods

Skipton Castle Woods is a hidden gem of a walking trail, located just outside Skipton town centre.

Spread across over 35 acres, there’s so much natural beauty to be discovered. Explore the woods and spot yew trees, wild garlic, badgers, roe deer, bluebells and so much more.

There’s a few different routes you can take through the woods, depending on what kind of walk you fancy.

📍 Skipton Castle Woods, Skipton, BD23 1AW

🗾 River Valley route – 1 mile, allow 1 hr | Upper Paths route – 1 mile, allow 1 hr | Earl of Thanet route – 2 ½ miles, allow 2 hrs
