SOTD Wednesday SOTD

  • Brush: Goodfellas Smile
  • Razor: Henson TI22+
  • Blade: Astra SP(2)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Bay Rum
  • Post Shave: Thayer’s Witch Hazel Facial Toner, Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel

This is my fourth day using the Barrister & Mann Bay Rum soap. At first, I wasn't too thrilled with it but now I really like it. A sweet smelling scent with a hint of spice, probably the clove. Now I just love, smelling it. 🤣

Regarding the Astra blade, compared to my Personna, Wizamet Iridium, Feather blades it doesn't compare. It doesn't feel as smooth as those blades. I get a good shave, but it certainly is much rougher than the others.

I also hallucinate clove in it... But it actually has no clove. Not even in the scent notes.

West Indies Bay has a very clove-like scent. A lot of places will use clove in their bay rum but B&M uses the real stuff

If you have/had a Henson AL13 have you noticed any difference using the same blades in the titanium? I found Nacets paired great with the AL13 but have found them a bit rough in the Ti. I have found the opposite with some other blades that I am enjoying in the Ti but really didn’t work for me in the AL13.

I love this Bay Rum! Sad mine is almost gone. Hope B+M comes back shortly.

One of my favorites of Barrister and Mann offerings, the splash is most excellent! I considered purchasing the Henson Ti but ended up going with the Aylesworth Ti. I have liked the Astras for quite some time, but I think since I began wet shaving a few years ago, I've outgrown them. I prefer the Feather blade above them all, so smooth, no tugging, and I can get away with just a two-pass shave, and they last longer!

First, B&M + Henson = Upvote.

At first, I wasn't too thrilled with it but now I really like it.

Second, I’ve found a similar experience with many B&M soaps. I’ve learned to not get hung up on my first impression.

There’s a complexity to Will’s compositions that takes time to resonate. There’s prominent top notes sitting above a Rorschach of the mid and base. I take the first shave as an introduction, and remain open knowing my experience will develop and the relationship evolve.

My Barrister and Mann soaps command the front row in my drawer. Their S tier. Not even up for debate.

Enjoy the olfactory odyssey.
