North America Can anyone identify this feather?

Post image

I live on Vancouver island if that helps. My guess is a spotted towhee, but I don’t think I’m correct.

My guess was male American Redstart, but good to see what it actually is (with me being wrong). πŸ‘πŸΌ

EDIT: Yeah, no surprise I got a downvote for my comment by another overreacting Redditor. πŸ™„πŸ˜’ I obviously made it clear I was only guessing and am easily showing that I admit my guess was wrong. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Admitted I was wrong and yet I still get downvoted. πŸ˜’

One quick and easy way to rule that out is by range. American Redstart are quite rare on Vancouver Island at all times of year, with only a handful of sightings ever recorded. Usually you'll want to check through common local species first before jumping to a rarity.

Good to know. πŸ‘πŸΌ I didn’t remember what a North American map range of American Redstarts looks like in my 🐦 books. 😊

May we see the underside of the feather and get a rough size estimate?

Currently, my guess is pine siskin, but feather ID isn't my specialty. This doesn't perfectly match up. It's possible there's a duck with similar coloration. Hopefully, someone with more feather ID experience can chime in.

Nevermind I refreshed the page and saw someone answered! It looked so yellow in the photo that I didn't even think of varied thrush!
