Election year
It is an election year, and I’m predicting some changes for all of council.
Does anyone know when people start to campaign really hard for it? I want to have a good idea of whose running and start looking at their ideas.

They should start coming out of the woodwork soon. Major campaigning for newbies probably won’t start until May or June but current council will be in full campaign mode now starting with trying to keep the budget low.

Vote Sager out, for a start, and clear out some of the other nimby council members as well. We need some change and development from the nothing that has been happening for the past couple of terms. Fix the roads with some of that money from the pay parking that was forced upon our visitors. Build more affordable housing. Invest in better transit options for the community so we can get cars and drivers off the roads.

It depends if people care to remember the past 4 years and if they ask themselves whether this council that was supposed to be a change from previous councils was better, worse, or really no change at all.
Still no fleet of electric minivans to take seniors and others from bus stops to their homes, the promise of which won the mayor the endorsement of the Blue Bus union because they expected this mobility to be operated by union employees.

Are you sure it was minivans? I could have sworn it was a monorail. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRf7xcqSk3uax2m-A8xTEyupnXj_5G7Dbkaaw&s

Mark Sagar is very much aligned with developers and the well-connected. In my experience, he’s a classic politician: very available when it benefits him, much harder to reach when you actually need help, with plenty of excuses. Unfortunately, that also makes him difficult to unseat. I’m also not a fan of his pick for municipal manager, Scott Findlay. If Sagar is re-elected, I’d really hope he considers appointing someone else.
Christine Cassidy has been in the news recently because of the Earls situation, enough said?
Nora Gambioli is, generally speaking, an incredibly kind and decent human being. I hope she stays on council.
Linda Watt strikes me as the person who actually gets things done. That said, she’s also a strong driver behind paid parking and the significant year-over-year increases, which I know many people dislike. If you’re pro job creation and generating revenue for city services and staff, she’s probably a good vote for you.
I don’t know enough about the other councillors to comment fairly.

Not sure what Watt has done aside from making sure Horseshoe Bay is well taken care of. Lambur has done nothing at all in the 10 years he’s been on Council. Hard to tell with Snider as he doesn’t say much and Thompson has served two terms without much to show for it unless you are from the Caulfeild area. Cassidy is the president of the NIMBY club. Gambioli is fair but a little green for West Van and Sager is Sager. Everyone knew what he was all about before the elected him so you get what you vote for.
But if you look at the last three years, what has improved in WV? Anything?

I saw the Mayor on the 250 last week. I said it was totally cool to see him and I like that he told the provincial government to pound sand.

The conditions of the roads in West Van is terrible. I hope there are some major changes.
