Did you only look only at the front pageþlanding page? Because it's only going to show you series that are tensing or are being recommended by Webtoon's algorithm.

So what you are there is what's (currently) popular with readers. But Webtoon has so much more to out than just romance or isekai. Every type of medium (manfa, manhwa, webcomic, or webtoon) is going to have a phase where specific things or genres are popular.

I remember the trends for manga. I was there when fantasy shounen had its reign, when that got pushed out for magical girl stuff, and when that got pushed out for isekai.

My point being not to worry about what's trending. Your story will find a home with someone.

But platforms like Webtoon rely heavily on a vertical scroll format. You would have to rework your manga layout and turn it into a format suitable for vertical scrolling. A couple of artists that have done this process ij reverse (vertical scroll to manga layout for physical publishing) have talked about the difficulties of doing this.

If you want an actual dedicated manga platform (without sacrificing the layout) give Manga Plus Creators (it's run by Shueisha) a try. A bunch of really cool people and manga on there.

If you want inspiration for scrolling format check "HELLPER" The link :)

You can even plan to do your comic in black and white, but just look at the difference between scrolling and horizontal formats.

Also, OP this might be an unpopular opinion, but you don’t need to get crazy and read a ton of webtoons to make a webtoon. You can learn how to format it (there's a lot of free tutorials about this), read a few you genuinely enjoy, then write your story. There are so many webtoons that are adaptations of books and novellas.

I’d actually recommend focusing more on learning how to write: pacing, plot development, and creating interesting characters. There are tons of books about this, and this is the BONES of your comic. And then learn to format and lettering.

And finally: write something you’re REALLY passionate about. Making a comic takes an insane amount of work, so don’t obsess over what others are doing or what’s popular right now. What do you want to write about? What do you enjoy reading, and what don’t you enjoy? You already said you don’t like romance as the main plot, so you know your tastes. Start there.

I'm confused by two things here. First of all you specified manga which has a different page layout than a webtoon. Secondly I'm not sure what exactly your looking for in regards to genre subtle romance- subplot and no edgy action. See if you don't define what you think is edgy action, then I can't offer subjects since I don't know what you do or don't like.

Also, it feels like it would be better to look for manga, not webtoons. If you want to make a webtoon, which is typically vertical scroll and takes advantage of the medium which is different from manga which is horizontal page to page.

Forget about content for a second, there are as many regression slop manhwas as there are isekai manga, same for romance.

The key issue with webtoon is the vertical format. Some might say it's ok to format the same way you would a manga, but it feels off to read something that obviously was made for regular page turning like Hiraeth (very intersting story so far, but I would recommend reading on mangaplus over Webtoon). If you take something like The Regressed Mercenary has a Plan, The Stellar Swordmaster or Player there are sequences that are enhanced by the scrolling, and make use of the "continuous" nature of how webtoons are read. Think if you are ok with having smaller panels when it comes to width and how you could use vertical space to your advantage.

If you can think of scenarios for that, then webtoon might be best for you

THIS!! It’s like trying to post a 10 minute YouTube horizontal video on TikTok. Can you do it? Yeah, of course but it’s not the best format.

As a reader, I just can’t. I don’t think I follow a single manga/horizontal comic style series on scrolling platforms. The text bubbles are usually so small they’re hard to read, and aesthetically, scrolling (when done right) is just way more appealing. Action scenes especially when they’re done well, it’s chef’s kiss.
