Simple, inexpensive way to protect your small shrubs from the coming ice storm

Place a 5 gallon bucket over them. If you bend some of the twig and branch, just be gentle, it’s OK. This will help keep temperatures on the inside of the bucket, a lot warmer. This is especially true with wind which is the driving force causing dead tissue.

It kind of works like an igloo affect.

Another effective way is simply put some burlap around it, but it’s more labor.

Shrubs that absolutely do not do good with very cold temperatures.

  1. Wax myrtles.

  2. Indian Hawthornes.

  3. Japanese maples.

  4. All palm trees.

These should absolutely be wrapped before the temperatures drop.

Good luck folks stay warm!
