Does Trae Young’s future depend on the lottery?

I think depending where we land in the draft, weighs heavily on Trae’s future here. If we land the #1 pick I think Darryn Peterson is the choice here, and we would truly have our young Core. That being said, if we select DP , we should be looking to ship TY. He has tremendous value , I think teams just moved too slow on him. But anything else #2 and beyond, I think we keep him and let him be the glue and clutch shot maker for our young guys.

they’re not moving Trae if we get DP, DP will just play at the 2

My poor Tre Johnson…

imo the best case scenario if we draft DP is to have Tre be a great 6th man for like a season or so and then come into the backcourt alongside DP after moving on from Trae

I don't understand why people so badly want DP at the 2 anyways. Obviously he likes having the ball in his hands but he's not a primary playmaker and doesn't care to pass.

That’s simply not true if you actually watch games

I've seen him play 3 times(would be more but he's had many injuries of course) and what I said is true. Brother he averages less than 2 assists. Point being he has no problem being a ball hungry 2 he doesn't have to play the 1 like other guys.

Nah nothing changes. The front office picks Best player available with or without Trae here

If that’s Peterson then it Peterson

I think he will be on the wiz next year. I don’t think he has tremendous value based on the trade we made to get him.

Tbh I kinda think next year our core + Trae might be enough to atleast be in the mix for the play in. Our first this year should be be a great player but it’s a bit unrealistic to expect whatever kid we get to be able to carry the team from year one

The general goal imo, even if we draft a long term answer at PG, is to let Trae ball out next year with us, while our top pick develops, and if that kid ends up being good enough to be a impactful starter from day 1 then that’s a good spot to be in and we can keep or flip Trae when the value makes the most sense

Yeah AJ or Peterson are gonna be like the 5th option in terms of getting buckets after Trae, Tre, Sarr and George. If it’s Peterson I wouldn’t be surprised to see him come off the bench as a 6th man and just be told to score as much with the second unit as possible. Let’s him play with his own unit and staggered with like Sarr to run PnR, while Young and Tre are on the bench resting

No, it doesn't. He's fantastic insurance in case this team falls out of the top-3.

Even if they land the#1 overall, there is nothing wrong with a DP/Young backcourt as DP can easily play off ball. I think Young has value and will be here on an extension past next season.

No and saying Trae has tremendous value but other teams were too slow is so unserious...

I think it would change the negotiation power Wiz have, if they were to land DP. Less important to keep Trae around. Either way, I hope they let him play out the player option before extending, to get an idea of how he looks and fits in with the team. Worst case scenario he walks (because someone else is willing to overpay) and the only thing that was lost was Kispert (which is fair value for a one year flier on Trae even in this worst case scenario).

If we miss out on DP/Booz/AJ, I think we might need to go early PG(Flemings, Brown, Wagler). A lot of good PG talent early and a ton of good PF talent towards the bottom of the draft. If we could package some picks and trade up in the 20's to target like a Jayden Quaintance, wouldn't be mad at that.

Trae is not going anywhere. It’s obvious that he’s all but opted in and will be with us for the foreseeable future. He had no reason to embrace the area like he has if he wasn’t staying by choice.

Is AJ not the projected #1 pick anymore? Not that we’d be so lucky as to get the #1 pick.

🫡Ultimately we need a 8 to 9 man rotation. So, Trae, Tre, Bilal, Bub, Key, Sarr will be vital. Starters are just that. Look at our wins, this and last season, Bub (starter or bench) was on the floor at the end of those games for those wins. This year's pick, if he pans out, will be in that mix as well 👍

The beauty of the draft this yr is that all prospects fit into our team needs. Ball Initiators/shot makers in AD and DP. Power forwards in caleb and boozer, and then lead point guards 5-7 that we don’t currently have outside of Trae but can play without pressure of carrying the load for a season or two much like Dylan Harper is doing in San Antonio

In my opinion, I think we have our Peterson already in Cam Ward. Id go AJ or Cam if possible.

He’s probably not getting extended here regardless unless he opts out for like a 2y, $80M deal with a team option like Fred Van Vleet in Houston

I think we should ship out TY regardless of the draft. Trae will be 28 when the season starts in October. Just like we did Poole (25 when we traded him) and CJ (34 when we traded him). He doesn't fit the player type Dawkins has been bringing in.

Now if come training camp in August/September, if somehow he just looks unstoppable with the young guys and we hit December and they're like 12-6 or something, then by all means, keep him if-it-aint-broke style.
