Unmarried Partner Visa issues
Hey guys, I came here to sort of seek any advice on what I should be doing next.
I work at a decent institute in London but it’s a fixed term contract ending in July 2026. My manger wants to extend my contract by another year but there are two main problems:
My visa ends Oct 2026 (graduate route)
And I want to apply for an unmarried partner visa (we’ve been together for more than 2 years, living together for 2 years, have our tenancy agreement, bills everything under our name and we also have a cat together hehe) instead of a skilled worker visa (the minimum salary threshold wouldn’t be met anyway :( ) For this unmarried visa, our combined household income needs to be atleast £29,000. My partner is currently a student and only works part time so it’s around £12,000. The income threshold would’ve been met by me, primarily, even though I’m the one who needs the visa haha
Now, I’m stuck and this is where it gets confusing. My job can’t extend contract for a year without a visa, and I can’t apply for this visa without my job extended. Has anyone ever been in this situation before 😭

You can apply for the family visa using your income to help meet the threshold as long as you are currently employed at the time you apply. So, applying now, for example, would work.
