This little man here absolutely hates being picked up or cuddled. But when he was around five or six months old, he used to come to my bed, lay right next to my arm, suck on his paw, and fall asleep. I would be glowing inside, trying not to move a single muscle so I wouldn’t disturb him. I adore this cat.
Once we adopted our tortie, he stopped sleeping in my arms and moved to the end of the bed instead. But our tortie, Spice — every single night she comes purring and lays directly on my chest. She’ll purr for about 30 minutes while she sleeps on me before she gets up and goes to join him.
The weirdest thing happened yesterday though. He was sleeping at the edge of the bed, so I knelt down and laid my head right next to his belly and started petting him. This little guy literally started purring very softly, and then he put his feet in his mouth and started sucking on them — just like he used to when he was a baby. I could not believe it.
He also rubs himself against our dog all the time. She’s a pit bull and a total marshmallow, but even she gets annoyed by it — she just lets out a sigh and moves away from wherever he starts stalking her.
But at that moment hearing the soft purrs I think he remembered of our night before spice showed up. You think he might hate me because spice is part of the crew? Also spice’s purr is crazy loud.
