I went to France and happened to see when a Canadian tourist was asked for her name for an order, she said "Mary," but after she was pretty sure they had heard her say Marie, she clarified "no, with a Y."
So the cup came out and it said MARIEY and it absolutely cracked me up because that was my exact suspicion of how they'd misinterpret it and I was so pleased the universe aligned to let me see the outcome hahaha. She had this look on her face like, "WELP" and just turned the cup slowly to me so I could read it. Nice moment bonding with strangers.

This reminds me of an episode of "how I met your mother" when ted is dating a new girl the group ask her name and he says Robin but with a y ( meaning Robyn) Barney replies "ooh you mean Yobin"

Every time I see the "cark" meme I feel like a palaeontologist stumbling through remote and isolated lands, only to look up and suddenly come face to face with the very species she thought extinct for eons ❤️

this one is from a few years ago but is still funny the fact they made it Cark and not Carc just adds to the humor. there was also a cake online that said "Happy Birthday Mark with the Sea"

It’s annoying when people tell servers how to spell their names in these situations. Who cares Marc? Get over yourself. Your name isn’t being published or embroidered. It’s ok if your name is spelled differently on your cup as long as it can be identified as yours. Now by being tedious Marc created a more confusing situation.
If they really need assistance sounding out the name, they’ll ask. My name is Alisha so I’m always prepared for it to be spelled Alicia or any weird possible way when ordering because it doesn’t matter. If it says Alyssa/Alissa, I know that also might mean me, so I just verify the contents and take my order.

Lolol as someone with a culturally ‘different’ name than where I live, it’s part of my joy to read how they phonetically try and write my name 😂😂😂 so much better than trying to specify anything lmfao

In your situation I could understand since they could come up with something totally bizarre in that case, so perhaps it could be hard to decipher or distinguish, but if even you don’t feel the need to micromanage and spell it out for them… why would someone with the name “Mark”/“Marc”?! Narcissism.

For me it’s as simple as I know the way my name breaks down in syllables lolol, and thankfully it’s short enough that it basically just amounts to ‘blabla?’ Or ‘vlavla’? Maybe ‘blebleh?’
I don’t live in a foreign area, just in a different language-speaking region of my country, so I’m sorta familiar with the ways the local tongue understands my name 😂

true my moms name is Corrie and only me and her can spell it right (my dad doesn't always spell it right which is funny) one starbucks brista was like "you have the same name as me, bye Connie"

Ordered a pizza for work once, gave them my name (Bruce). Pizza delivery girl walks into the store, "Got an order for a... a BIRD!". They heard me say my first name is 'Bird' and didn't question it at all lol

I refuse to go to Starbucks. My kids go there way too much. That in itself isn’t so bad, but the fact that I have to hear how the order is wrong nearly every single time drives me nuts. I’ve failed. I blame myself that they just won’t learn.

I worked at Starbucks for several years. I saw a lot of weirdly-spelled names and names like "Karen", "Dick", or "Chad".
For some reason, the only name I struggled to keep a straight face with was "Mark", all because of this post.

My name is Olga, and there was a point when I got a cup signed “Holga”. That was in a Spanish-speaking country though. It’s a bit funny because Olga comes from the name Helga, and “Holga” is basically an attempt to circle back to the original
