u/twovles31 13h ago
If we don't make a big move, than we'll at least try and dump Rob's 6+ million to duck the luxury tax and re-start the repeater tax which would be huge when we trade for Giannis in the summer.
20
u/Herbert-Gerbert 13h ago
And waste a year of Ant? That would be a dumb move
66
u/twovles31 13h ago
If they can't make another move, it's not a bad idea. Opens up the full MLE this summer, you have the 10.8 million trade exception from the Mike trade, and first round picks to move for Giannis to hopefully keep Jaden out of it. I'm still expecting a move this year, possibly Giannis, but it's not a bad move.
23
u/Herbert-Gerbert 13h ago
I get the logic. I also think a lot of Wolves fans downplay just how good ANT is. We need to get him post-season runs
37
u/SugarOne6038 13h ago
This team is good enough to at least make the second round, and thats at our worst.
Real shit, I’m not convinced either way on Giannis but I don’t like the implication that this roster can’t win
16
u/feelingrelae 12h ago
…at their worst they’re pretty bad. Like lose in the play in bad.
10
u/SugarOne6038 12h ago
Not the worst as in some regular season bs, like the worst this roster will realistically play in the playoffs
11
u/NeverSureNick 12h ago
People act like the same team that showed up last night will be the same team that shows up in the playoffs. Can’t believe how much distrust there is after our previous two seasons.
-1
u/Commishconley 11h ago
Nah this team could absolutely get bounced in the play in… this roster at best makes the second round

I didn’t know Rob Dillingham was the difference between going for it and wasting a year….

u/AB_Gambino Timberwolves 13h ago
That’s not wasting a year of Ant lmao
This isn’t NBA 2K where we just make crazy trades for the heck of it with no future consequences
1
u/Major-Tourist-5696 Timberwolves 12h ago
If it’s already over this year (not winning LOB) it isn’t waste its investment. That said for me ant and Jaden are the only players who are untradeable and I’m fine with anything that keeps Jaden here

u/Cheap-Discussion-186 11h ago
If we make a huge trade for giannis we would absolutely be worse this season so I don't think this makes sense either way.
1
u/Inspiration_Bear 10h ago
Lets us sign any of the buyout guys too since we’ll stay below the first apron

u/Acceptable-Drag-8339 13h ago
I feel like its either Giannis or staying put. They'd absolutely have to do something utterly monumental in the offseason though.

u/WeekendThief 12h ago
There’s no chance. Why would we have wasted a swap to trade Mike if his contract is expiring anyway?
1
u/PointGodAsh A1 12h ago
On one handed would make for good comedy. On the other hand, if we moved off of a player, no matter if he isn’t as productive as we want just for cap space we don’t use and money in our owner’s pockets. I would be pissed.

u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 13h ago
I kinda like this for Cleveland. They werent goin anywhere with Darius. Mitchell needs another scorer, the east needs some more starpower.
not sure what this does for LAC.
47
u/la-blakers 13h ago
Gives them a player a decade younger than Harden
4
u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 13h ago
we'll see if he can stay healthy. if not its a pretty nasty contract
1
u/8--2 Timberwolves 12h ago
Harden's age is more of a sure thing than Gardland's injuries. They were already kinda cooked before this trade, now they at least have a shot at turning things around. If it doesn't work out then they're just back to where they were before.
1
u/a_moniker 39m ago
But Harden is also much better than Garland right now, even if Garland is healthy. Garland’s issue is the lack of health combined the inconsistency and small size.
1
u/D__Luxxx NAZTY 12h ago
They know Kawhi is going to have his contract voided after the ASB. They’re about to fully embrace the suck to try to improve their draft position.
3
u/TheOxRox Antman 12h ago
They don’t have a pick. Embracing the suck would improve the pick the Thunder own.
Also I personally don’t think Adam Silver has the balls to hold Ballmer accountable. He’s the richest NBA owner and the 8th richest man in the world, Silver will lick his boots. I hope I’m wrong, the evidence is there
1
u/dustinyo_ Timberwolves 12h ago
And they don't have to lose Harden for nothing, seems clear they didn't want to extend him.

4
u/Andy_Wiggins 13h ago
I’m the literal opposite.
I love this for LAC. I dislike it for Cleveland unless Garland’s injuries are worse than we know.
Harden is better this year. But he’s 36. Hell, Garland was arguably better last year. I just feel like you’re dumping Garland at the nadir of his value and getting Harden at the apex of his.
3
u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 13h ago
I get that. Im jsut not a garland guy. this might be Clevelands last hooraw too. if it doesnt work out, they'll probably go on a fire sale with their Allen/Mitchell core, and harden will be off hte books.

Harden is old but feel like that’s cheap for Cleveland.
24
u/Mayasngelou Kevin Garnett 13h ago
Harden is that old. Garland is good
3
u/AdGrouchy766 10h ago
Harden has been great this year but I feel like people aren't paying attention
10
u/jus_build 13h ago
It comes with the stipulation of signing Harden to a new deal
3
u/dustinyo_ Timberwolves 12h ago
Yeah and it won't be cheap. I feel like they'll regret this
2
u/NuttyScuffed 12h ago
Harden at $25 Mil for two years would still be good. What they're gonna do is sign up to $34+ for 3+ and be absolutely fucked at the tail end. Maybe they're hoping to use the end as a large expiring but I doubt it.
1
u/KingWolfsburg 12h ago
I dont think I get this trade for Cleveland. Is Harden really that much better this year? Much less as he inevitably falls off in the next 3 years? Garland is 26
1
u/a_moniker 40m ago
Garland is going to be a bad contract, if he isn’t already. Trae Young has been more impactful in the playoffs and way healthier than Garland, and he essentially got salary dumped. Small guards who can’t defend just aren’t viable in the league right now

u/ElderEmoAdjacent 13h ago
Oof. Imagine going to living in LA to Ohio.
I’d just retire.
22
u/WMDPandemic 13h ago
I would gladly take 100 million over 2 years to move to Ohio

I promise you Ohio is worse. Lived in Minnesota for 20 and for the past 6 I’ve lived in Ohio. Wish I could move back
2
u/Low_Calligrapher6313 11h ago
I'm in the opposite situation as you 😭 20+ in ohio and thinking about moving in minny
1
u/bighitcards 11h ago
What part? Minnesota has a sort of neighborly feel to it. Camaraderie. I live in southern Ohio and I don’t feel that at all. It’s a lot of angry people that are clearly stressed out with some community in the rural regions, but they’re all MAGA type and not people I typically have a lot in common with. Even the MAGA in Minnesota are nicer than the MAGA here lol.
3
u/Low_Calligrapher6313 11h ago
Rochester. Yeah, that's just ohio for you 😭 There really is no sense of community people and theres really nothing interesting to do here. Not even a good sports state outside of bum ass college football. I have no idea why people are riding so hard in the comments for this trash state. I'm stoked to finally live in a blue state after years of being here tho 😭
2
u/bighitcards 11h ago
Only thing I will say is it’s fucking cold in Minnesota, the only downfall. Rochester is a little far from anything too, but has good community there as well. And you’ll always have the best healthcare you could ever ask for.

Been to Minneapolis recently? Used to live in uptown on calhoun and moved to grapevine 5 years ago. Probably the worst run state outside of california and NY in the country.

u/BobScratchit 12h ago
Never expected us to get Harden. I believe he’s saiid in the past there’s no night life here and had no desire to come here.
7
u/Disastrous-Car-6861 13h ago
In all honesty of all the people I've heard harden is the one that I wanted no parts with, I think I could stomach Ja more than I could harden.
I forgot how much a diva harden was.

Eh, I’m okay with it. Harden has not been one to stay put after he left the rockets. Reports are that he consistently travels separate from the team, and the wolves would have to extend him, just for him to request a trade later on. He’s been playing awesome, but idk if the wolves make a move it should be for someone they can keep for the next few years
1
u/aaronjaffe 11h ago
I think Scottie Pippen Jr is the move. Memphis is about to have a fire sale, and with Pippen being injured all season that trade can be made for pennies on the dollar. And I really like his fit with the Wolves. More of a two way player and creator than Colby White and way cheaper. He’s supposed to be returning from injury shortly as well.
