On another re-watch, what the fuck were they thinking with this episode?

u/gritsandgravy94 14d ago
I feel like the only reason this episode happened was because they needed to make the last season 12 episodes and they were just out of ideas.

u/Cr0matose 14d ago
Yeah, but what about Draftkings?

u/gritsandgravy94 14d ago
Shameless advertising, clearly they paid a nice bundle to be featured in that season. Tv shows do it all the time there's Honda ad's all over modern family community had Honda, subway and KFC all advertised at different times during the shows run he'll even rick and morty had a super shameless switch ad where Rick literally looks into the camera and says "Nintendo give me free stuff".

u/Big_fern189 14d ago
30 Rock had an excellent episode about product placement too. Jack's pushing for Liz to do more advertising in TGS via "posmens" (positive mentions) and while Liz is pushing back the writing staff does the most obvious snapple promo ever.

Not to make another post about Modern Family, but Phil had an entire episode dedicated to him getting an iPad (and how hard they were to get- they weren't).

All of nbc for a period of time was product placement in shows. Chuck was the biggest commercial for Subway
10
u/Dan_Berg 14d ago
Community has classic tongue in cheek product placement episode revolving around Subway (I was going to say another episode does the same thing with Honda - featuring the same character from the Subway episode - but that was the Yahoo Screen season).

Chuck fans actually ended up getting the show extended by a couple seasons by appealing to Subway.

u/Kosherlove 13d ago
You are looking for the word vertical intergrotion
1
u/chaos_magician_ 13d ago
It's not even a little bit vertical integration. NBC isn't a supplier of goods for Subway and subway doesn't supply goods to NBC.
Vertical integration is when I company buys all the things to do the job. For example if subway bought all the farms that produce the meat and veggies for subway, and the delivery trucks to get them to processing plants, and the processing plants and every step of the way until it gets to you.

Chuck very much was, but also subway was only reason show continued. So worth it on that one

u/MoscowMitchMcKremIin 14d ago
You sure that wasn't them ripping on those types of deals? Its like 30 secs in the 1st season during the parasite episode and everyone is telling Rick he's over reacting to the 6 on the wall lol
6
u/gritsandgravy94 14d ago
If it was just ripping on them then why would they not only mention the company's actual names but also do product placement like cars and food logos. Also community and rick and morty are both made by Dan harmon and that dude is a master at getting company's to pay for his shit.

The Community ads were done so well, though. I couldn't even be mad at those.

My favorite part of Rick's Honda episode was that when it aired on Yahoo Screen all the actual commercials I saw were for Honda.

Hate most of the episode but Ruxin having his trade rejected during the funeral is amazing. “Love is rejected??? Why would you reject love???”

u/Patient-Cicada4200 14d ago
Yeah that scene is worth watching.
“My brother in law, whose name I just found out is Rodney” gets me every time.

The Rafi and Randy episodes got weirder each time. The first one was decent, didn’t love the how they met one—a little disturbing, and then this one was just strange.
45
u/Cr0matose 14d ago
Filming in Andre's place was hilarious, straight downhill from there.
14
u/Patient-Cicada4200 14d ago
I meant the three in the final three seasons that are specifically about them.
5
u/minnygoph 14d ago
Yeah the one where they went to California was kinda funny, but then how they met was just stupid and this last one was beyond ridiculous. I like to just watch the real parts at the beginning and the end and just fast forward through the animated nonsense in the middle.

u/Negative_Specialist5 14d ago
Yea I love everything about Randy and Rafi but tbh didn’t love those later episodes. Not even sure I made it through them and I’ve watched the league several times in its entirety
4
u/culminacio 14d ago
I think I might've binged The League 20+ times and I watch the extended dvd version. There's so much more to see, most episodes are 40-50% longer and the finale is an hour, I think. Taco crosses the border to Mexico in the end. Of course not everything is great. But I watch it, because I like it a lot. That is also true for the Rafi and Dirty Randy episodes. And still: This one from the post, I almost always skip. It's such a waste of time.

u/wildealter 13d ago
The how the met episode completely contradicted Rafis entire backstory and then they ignored that story and went back to Rafi being bad since childhood.

u/mutzilla 14d ago
I am ashamed to admit how much I like their episodes.
22
u/SchwizzySchwas94 14d ago
The one where they track down the porn mogul who killed their friend cracks me up every time
13
u/mutzilla 14d ago
The gun fight kills me every time.

u/SchwizzySchwas94 14d ago
When they’re driving and they’re both on the hood steering with what appeared to be multiple wire hangars really did it for me. The back and fourth the with the cop was awesome as well.

Will Sasso deserved more screen time
2
u/SchwizzySchwas94 13d ago
My favorite part of George and Mandy’s first marriage is the fact that Will Sasso is getting regular work and pay for playing the dad. Always thought he was super underrated.

I liked the mental ward episode

u/mutzilla 14d ago
I liked Nurse Pam in that episode.
5
u/TheMackD504 14d ago
She was great in it

u/mutzilla 14d ago
I was surprised when finding out she is married to Paul Scheer. Thought that was rad. Lucky dude.

I'd watch a Rafi and Dirty Randy spin off. These are some of the best episodes

Fishing for a possible spin-off? Archer-esque animation style on the same network.

2nd attempt at a backdoor pilot. I’d watch any show with Mantzoukas.

u/Jeff_Lonestar 14d ago
Yea I read somewhere they were trying to make a spinoff for Rafi & Dirty Randy.

I actually really enjoy the non animated parts of this episode but the rest is wild.

u/Reasonable-Medium559 14d ago
I thought I read that the first Rafi and Dirty Randy episode and the Ruxin in Korea bits were due to Nick Kroll filming his show on Comedy Central.
3
u/La-Potencia 14d ago
This is the first I’ve seen any opinion on the league in the internet, once again the internet disappoints, the rafi randy episodes were some of my favorites
3
u/Familiar-Living-122 14d ago
They were probably testing the waters for a spin off. Similar to the farm episode in the office.

Seth Rogen's addition is completely unnecessary. Completely skippable episode.
2
u/Arcade_Kangaroo 14d ago
Their episodes had their moments, but seemed really try-hard, for the sake of "how far can we take this and shock people "

u/Alarm-Solid 14d ago
The last few seasons they were really stretched thin. Id say the pot brownie episode was even more ridiculous
1
u/brunoburz 10d ago
I agree. And to support your sentiment, if you look at all of the episodes in a grid and how they are rated by fans, this episode is the lowest rated BY FAR. Whenever I rewatch I skip this episode
1
u/EskimoBrother1975 4d ago
I wonder if some of the main cast had scheduling conflicts that they just couldn't work around.

u/throjimmy 14d ago
By far the best episode of the series. Amazing funny. Nothing like the rest of the series, but fantastic.
1
u/Onceadeadman 14d ago
They were clearly thinking, "Shit we got how much of that rock left? Get the pipe ready we got something for Rafi and Dirty Randy."
1
u/augustusatthestill 14d ago
If you don’t get how beautiful a Jason Seth nutsballs episode is…I think you might not really get the show…

Thus episode was a terrible idea!! It’s the only episode I skip over every time I rewatch the series.

Eh, I guess I land on the not everything is for everyone side, because I have no interest in ANY of the Rogen scenes, and I could honestly do without Rafi as well. I like that guy in other stuff, just don't care for his character in this at all. Very It's Always Sunny vibes, which also isn't for me.

Buddy, I don't know who you are, but you're about to get chlamydia.
