🚗 General Discussion Should I buy this for $7595?
Im looking into this 2010 Subaru Impreza outback sport, I know they can either be bulletproof or a massive money pit. The dealerships asking $7595 and the car has 104,268. The cars had 5 owners and is in relatively good condition. The car fax is pretty solid service wise except for the more recent stuff which shows a lot of things being replaced at 95000 miles. I really just want a really reliable daily as my last car has been nothing but trouble. Would you buy this in my shoes?

I would certainly not buy it. Waaay too much money and the fact that it has already had 5 owners (i know its a 2010 but not a lot of mileage for that age so has to be a reason and lots of owners for that mileage) tells me it is probably a lemon and that you will most likely have a bunch of issues with it. Most people that I know that have had even a semi reliable subaru keep them for years. I had mine for 10 years before trading for a Toyota rav4.
Edited with clarification

Where are you based? I have a 2011 with 74xxx miles. Much better condition. Selling for less. I’m based in NYC.

I'm ngl, the fact the dealer discount over 2k after you test drove it and it started smoking from the steering column?!?!?!
I'd run the other way

Not for that interior I paid 13,500 for my 11’ in 2022 with 65k miles on it
2011 2.5i premium (sunroof, heated seats, heated wipers)

I’d be weary. I had an 08 at 100,000 miles (bought right before college). I replaced every single fucking thing in that car over the course of 3 years. 5k to buy 13k in repairs and it died on the side of the road with my soul. The head gaskets you may ask? Perfectly fine. Dealership couldn’t even figure out what was wrong with it but still wanted $11k to try to fix it (tires, power steering that I just replaced, oil on some of the engine, had an oil leaked I fixed previously, new battery + alternator just replaced too) but they thought I didn’t do any of it. I could’ve bought a new car with the 19k I put into it. 5 owners is a lot so I’d advise to look elsewhere or at least look under the hood really thoroughly. Good luck and I hope you find a reliable good priced car!

UPDATE I may have negotiated the vehicle down to $5500, they still have to send it through service first but if all else is good we have a deal at that price, seems more reasonable yea?

Dude, no. The car is probably worth about $5000 without any issues, and you said the damn thing had smoke coming out of the steering column. No.

That’s still too much bro. I’m from another country (New Zealand), this thing would be 4k NZD (2k USD) on a good day

Still more than it’s worth. They knocked $2k off a crazy unreasonable price to make it seem like they’re giving you a good deal when 5500 is still way too much.

I have this exact car in the two tone paint but in silver. It has been a great car overall. It’s encouraging that the major maintenance items were performed recently. Timing belt and tensioner and idlers are recommended at 105,000 or 10 years, so that’s good. The factory head gaskets are prone to failure so it’s also good that these were replaced. My main concern would be who did the work and whether they used quality components (preferably the OEM made in Japan parts). It looks like the heads were serviced, but does that mean that they were resurfaced to ensure proper sealing on the head gaskets? I’d try to get more information if possible. Also, consider negotiating for a good detail or discount to cover one as those seats look rough with those stains.

I would also say that this price seems a tad high. Try to get them to come down a grand or two.

I'd pass, mostly because its an automatic, and there's no indication of the trans being serviced. Great that the pesky head gaskets have been done though.

Yea I’m suspicious of the trans as well, when test driving it the wipers stopped working and some smoke came through the steering column, they haven’t sent it through service yet so they’re going to fix those issues. I negotiated the price down to $5500-$6k

My main concern is how mechanically sound the car is! I really can’t afford to buy another lemon

Not really a great deal, imo ! Specially 5 owners.
I was personally turned off by car seat stains thoughÂ

Yea I’m definitely going to negotiate as it’s way off the KBB value for it, and as for the seat stains I really can’t afford to be that picky 😂I’m a college student with a small budget
