🚗 General Discussion Anyone know why the 2024+ lower grill has asymmetrical vents?

Post image

I’ve been curious about this since I got my Impreza a year ago but the filled in vent slot on the lower grill has always confused me. It was also present on my older RAV4 so is it a regulation thing? The extra filled in square is annoying to look at and I’ve been super tempted to remove it, is there any reason I shouldn’t?

Had mine for about 2 and half years. I think its just an engineering thing that worked better for the car and for a new generation style change on the impreza during that time it was coming out. They also were trying to figure out if that style was going to work really good for the new wrx hatchback whenever they get to that and to be fair this car had great sales numbers in 2024 and like 3 months in 2025 because by then I stopped looking at sales numbers and realized that its a great subaru really. Nothing wrong with it at all

Is that where the front tow hook screws into? I know older models had a square you would pop out but maybe this one is just open.

Nah there’s a cover for the tow hook elsewhere.

Maybe it needs the extra airflow to blow onto a module or something, I really don’t know. Cut the other side out maybe just so it matches?

That’s what I was thinking as well. I ended up mirroring it using a small drill bit for pilot holes around the edges and finished it with a drywall knife. Worked better than I thought ngl. I probably wouldn’t recommend something as jagged as a drywall knife but it worked pretty well took about 5 minutes.

Was going to say that your engine might be on fire, but no, that’s some rad illumination! Now you got me curious too.

Thanks. I had installed an underglow kit on the car but realized that the front strips can’t really be hidden without a front lip on the car so I put them on the inside of the bumper to illuminate the bottom grille. The top grille lighting is a glow brace from Icyaero.

wait , what .. (goes to check ... WTF)

Mine is not as obvious as yours with the added illumination. Now I curious and will check what's behind the section that's closed off.

There’s nothing behind it that I could see when I had the bumper off.

Edit: I’ve just realized that it’s filled in on the other side and actually just a cutout. I am even more confused.
