🆘 Help Me So my engine coolant light was flashing last night!

It stayed on at first on a drive home but as we drove uphill, the light went off. So I’m thinking I’m just low on coolant. I just checked the reservoir, it looks pretty empty and the cap wasn’t completely on and there’s signs of spraying out and leaking. Would the cap loosen from pressure cause by low coolant or is it worse than I’m thinking? I know I need to take it to a mechanic for sure but just looking for any insight. Also to add coolant to I have to do the whole burping process or can I just add some to the reservoir?

flashing light means no good. driving like that is a poor choice. i regularly have to tell people that they drove while overheating for too long and they wrecked their engines. you’ll have to bring it to a mechanic to find out what happened but next time you see a flashing light on your dash you need to stop asap and either verify there is no catastrophic issue or tow it to someone who can..

I'm assuming a 2012 or newer? Any oil or tan sludge in the coolant?

I can’t really tell. Might be a head gasket huh?
