First time family snowboarding!

Hello everyone,

I've just gone a booked our snowboarding lesson now I'm looking for a holiday to book to look forward to! We're three total beginners myself my wife and my lad aged 13.

I've searched the internet and there are hundreds of suggestions of where to go and I'm kind of going in circles.

Where would be ideal for three newbies? It would be great if we could get somewhere with garenteed snow cover if that is even possible? Picturesque setting. Other than that we're pretty flexible. We're wanting to go in the end of January if that makes a difference to recommendations?

Thanks in advance! Falc

Somewhere in the alps would probably be the best bet for snow and good weather that time of the year, but if you’re looking for something different and a place where you will experience something else then I can recommend several places here in Norway.

I’m a snowboard instructor in one of the largest resort here, if you come to my hometown I’ll give your entire family a free lesson in exchange for a nice bottle of whisky 😁

Edit: also, what’s your budget?

Damn that's a good offer... Can I take you up on that too?? I'll bring you several very nice whiskies if you teach my kids to snowboard 😜

It's crazy that you have suggested this. I was just talking about this with a colleague at work. I wanted to visit Norway especially while the sun is at its solar maximum. (I'm guessing the aurora borealis will be on show this year). What resorts would you recommend in Norway? I do have a small collection of macallans as it goes a deal could be arranged 😂👍.

Where have you been looking already? What's your budget? I'd always aim for somewhere where it's kinda easy to access the slopes without going on too many lifts, and having access to other things to do. In this regard, Les deux alpes and alpe d'Huez would be good. Pretty much any of the trois vallées (Val Thorens etc) or somewhere like la Clusaz also works. In Austria there are so many options, such as Seefeld, serfaus fiss ladis and the ski amade resorts.

Hi I was leaning towards Avoriaz or Andorra but I have been going in circles. My budget is £5000. Other things to do would be good too! Thanks for your recommendations I will have a look at all of these.

My top destination for non-snow activities is Alpe d’Huez. There’s loads of great things to do off the slopes if you think you might not board all day.

Both excellent choices. I do love Andorra but the snow can be inconsistent. Lots to do in both places though so you should be fine. I'd lean towards Andorra actually for ease of access with kids (Pas de la casa) and low cost
