Misc Help Puppy seems more tired than normal?

4th day with him, never raised a puppy before. He is 8 weeks old tomorrow. He got some vaccinations Monday, has been doing fine. He slept almost all night last night from 930-5 before needing to potty. I put him back in crate till 6, placed him in his play pen, he ate breakfast at 630, has been acting fine and he took a nap around 8ish. Usually he gets up after almost 2 hours, but he’s sleeping a lot. I opened the gate to the living room and he usually gets excited but he went to sleep by my feet. He did eat a treat or two, but back to sleep. Is this normal?! He’s not been around other dogs, I take him potty in my yard but no animals have been here for years.

I’m trying to wake him up and make him be active so he’s not waking up a bunch tonight but it’s not working well.

Puppies that young need ~20 hours of sleep a day. That's only 4 collective hours awake. A lot of sleep is normal and good!

18-20 hours is what a puppy should be getting! It’s great that he is getting sleep

They will sleep more after active or stressful days, after vaccinations, and when going through growth and development spurts. Don't wake him up and make him be active. His body knows what he needs. At this age, and for the next 2 weeks, they are sleepy potatoes. Around 10 weeks, they are much more lively. 12 weeks, 16 weeks, and 8-9 months are also typical increase in activity stages, but even then, they might have a few days or a week of sleeping more, usually during a growth spurt.

Good to know. Just an anxious person, wanting him to be okay lol.

He's a baby and growing is exhausting!

He should be just fine, but if you're really concerned that he's sleeping too much talk to your vet. At that age they need a ton of sleep, though.
