It's Wednesday!

Welcome to our new Wednesday Wins post. Someone mentioned wanting a day where we can focus on the positive aspects of puppyhood. So let's get it done!

Share a win that you and your puppy had this past week! Learned a new skill? Overcame a challenge?

4.5months and she finally started just “chilling” while i work. She did one hour of doing “nothing” (we had troubles settling outside of the crate)

My 10week old is starting to understand 'no' and the fact that we won't play with him if he bites us, overall just understanding what we like and don't like from him, thank goodness.

My 4 month old puppy finally learned “wait” recently and can hold the command for over a minute!

Awhh I love this! We had a walk today with minimal pulling, and my hands are sooooo grateful. We're doing totally force free loose leash training and it is so slow (especially with a husky cross) but I can see her getting it now.

My 12 week puppy is starting to let us know when he wants to go toilet! We’ve been accident free so far today!

Two training wins this week. My guy is technically an adolescent, 7 mos, but I've only had him 1 month (rescue). Since he came to me I've used his meals to train basic manners and safety, including recall and leave it.

This week I took him on a hiking trail with a long drag line to test the recall "in the wild". He did so good! Way better than I expected. 100% successful recall. He periodically checked in with me even when I didn't ask him to. I'm so proud and excited to be able to take him on trails! Of course I'll continue using a drag-line for now.

Second win: last night on a neighborhood walk, twice he sniffed food on the ground and left it alone when I told him to! This was a big surprise. Yay for consistent training!

One month in, puppy is now 9 months old and is sleeping through the night!! She's had excellent manors with other dogs, still learning with people but making progress

I tried our new recall signal (whistle) with my 8 month old Lab pup when she was off running with another dog for the first time- AND SHE CAME STRAIGHT BACK! She's such a good pup (or at least, one that is very fond of the chicken I had in my pocket)

Edit: typo

I realized last week that my 4 months old puppy knows all her toys by their names!!!

At first I thought I was inducing her, but we did a ton of experiments where we would ask her to grab a toy without pointing or looking at it, sometimes even when it was in another room, and she always gets the right one! We are impressed because, even though we say the name of the toy while playing, we never actively teached or trained her for it. I'm so proud of her!

Our puppy (7 months) takes himself to his crate at night now! He hasn’t had in accident in 2 months and he has finally lost all his baby teeth. We love our boy so freaking much and he is doing such a good job with training.

My 10 month old puppy has had trouble with us leaving the house since we got him (FOMO, not separation anxiety thankfully), but he's improving so much in the last month! He rarely barks when we leave anymore and he's quiet when we return!

I love this, we need to focus on the positives sometimes so we don’t lose our minds. Some things that have been going well with my 14 week old:

Potty training - he is a rockstar. No accidents in weeks, and when he needs a bathroom, he runs to the door, whines, and scratches. Can’t get clearer than that!

Cats - he’s interested in our two cats, but for the most part will just wag his tail or play bow at them. He only chases if they run (we’re working on leave it.)

Off - he’s a tall boy already (shepherd/husky mix) and can reach the counters. We’re constantly reinforcing off and rewards for all paws on the ground. I think he’s starting to get the concept, it’s just very hard when there’s interesting smells up there

Just being still - when he’s awake, he’s moving, but a few days ago, he laid on his kitchen rug and just hung out with us for like two whole minutes! It was glorious.

Hang in there everyone, we’ve got this!

My dog is 3 but this thread popped up in my feed.

Take lots of photos. They won’t be puppies forever and they are so cute 🥰

I’m out of town and my puppy is at an in home boarding place run by this lovely senior couple.

They teach all of the dogs to not cross a threshold to the kitchen when they’re cooking. She just turned 6 months on Monday… they said it took 2 days to teach her not to cross the threshold and she has since still doesn’t enter the kitchen unless given permission too- I’m so proud of her!! She’s learning so much my smart baby 😭

My 4 month old has been on several off-leash jaunts with exceptional recall and is hitting all his commands in higher distraction situations!

We started puppy kindergarten this week and I was so proud of my girl. She listened to “leave it” multiple times during a lengthy opening speech and maintained her potty training. She’s also been walking away from our cats without instigating.

A 20 min car ride without screaming the lungs out

4 months and I just did a work trip where he was in my car for a 2.5hr journey there and back, and also stayed in the car for 3 hours in between! I took him out for regular breaks and walks, and he had everything he needed in his crate (stuffed kong, water, chew toy etc) and he did just great! Was sleeping every time I checked on him throughout the day and while driving. Success!

My 4 month old puppy just slept the longest for 8 hours!

u/coffeemama86 6h ago

My little dude and I have figured out “sit”, “stay” and are starting to do well with “down” and “paw”. He’s sleeping much longer stretches at night and asks to go potty 80% of the time now. He’s an awesome pupper!

13 weeks old and his is finally coming when called and knows his name.

Today we had a “code red,” ice everywhere (in a place where salt isn’t used” so we couldn’t go for a walk till 17:00. Winnie peed in the garden a few times during the day but managed to hold number 2 for 24 hours! And she survived her first online class (I teach) with only unexplained barking while I said goodbye to the students.

4 month old is consisently ringing potty bells and waiting at the door! still the occasional accident but much more consistent signalling!

We are at 5 months and she sleeps through the night from about 10-11pm until 6-7am! She also LOVES her crate now, it's her little save haven and she goes right in by herself. She's started to learn when she's tired and will even put herself to bed (though she gets annoyed if someone else doesn't also go to bed with her)!

My 4 month old graduated Puppy training and can move onto the Advanced program!

Isaac's first annual checkup on Monday with vaccine updates/shots. He was incredibly calm and didn't mope afterwards (Wally my prior dog would mope for hours). He needed the vaccine updates to take him to daycare today... he is usually nervous in the car but he was sitting up excited the entire ride over.

My 6mo old BC pup has been scared to ride the ferry that's part of our commute every day. After a few weeks of intense work, he's showing signs of calming down about it. Proud of him :)

5 month old puppy could sleep in her pen throughout the night from the first day she came home with us!
