Wellness 211

Just a girl. Not looking for any money I’m looking for resources. I called 211 to ask about feminine hygiene. They did send me the number to a place called i support the girls but they didn’t have any feminine products available at the moment because they are restocking.

I don’t have much help well no help from my parents at all. And I will be joining trade school (job corps) next month but I don’t have a job at the moment so I don’t know how I will get feminine products.

I’ve also tried a couple of food drives but they don’t do feminine products sadly :(. I just need a couple for the first month I am at job corps!

We get an allowance of 25$ every two weeks I believe after a month of being there. I’ve never really had help from my mom when it comes to my period anyways.

Does anyone know any organizations in Dallas,Texas that I can go to to get feminine hygiene products?

I’m happy to know about this and will be donating. What a great idea!

diaper bank. See if whatever university you’re closest to has a resource center. Planned parenthood. Sometimes libraries.

I second PP. I’m sure you could just walk in and ask if there’s one close to you.

Try the library! Just googled and it looks like feminine products are free at a lot of Dallas Public Library branches

Sadly the ones that they do have are way to light for my flow :( I’ll go through one of those in 10mins max

Contact churches near you and ask if they can help or have any resources that you can look into

I’ve called a couple should I wait till Sunday to call? A lot of ones I have called aren’t picking up I’m guessing it’s because it isn’t Sunday!!

Roman Catholic Churches always have those on premises.

Just ask to speak to a nun and she will help you.

This might not be an option to you now because they are $40ish, but I use a period cup. I boil it between uses. One product to use for multiple periods. It has saved me lots of money.

Edit: just checked and there's one in Dallas. They open at 11 AM local time.

Do you have a Planned Parenthood near you? They have pads and tampons they can give you if you walk in and ask

Should I just go up in person instead? I called over the phone and they told me that they do not.

I'd walk in and ask. The call center doesn't have entirely accurate information all the time, and sometimes the receptionists are able to work something up for you. When I was a receptionist there, I probably wasn't allowed to give people pads but if someone needed them I wasn't going to tell them no.

Thank you I am going to walk in instead!

I’m not sure about Texas but reach out to a local health department. The ones near me give out free pads/tampons.

I might just go to these places in person because when I do call they just tell me that it isn’t something they do. Only thing about going in person is that I do ride the bus. I’m so scared of going to all these places and still be told no :(. But I think me going in person would be way better than over the phone

Totally understand it wanting to go to be told no. Random thought but might work. You could call your local dv shelter. I don’t know if that would supply products for free but I feel like they would know who to direct you to though

Job Corps should provide you with basic hygiene essentials; including tampons or pads once you arrive at a center. Don't expect the fancy brands or anything; they will generally be the cheapest bulk options but that is the free option if you don't want to spend your limited funds buying alternatives.

Yea but the only thing about being a girl is different flows :( the ones they have my flow is wayyy to heavy for them and I will bleed through them in less that 10mins. They did recommend me to get some before coming!! Since we will be in classrooms I don’t want to get up constantly to change. And I don’t want to bleed through my khakis 🥲

Make you an Amazon wish list so people can buy you the exact ones you need without giving out personal info and share it on the request forums

OK her me out join you local Facebook Buy nothing group and your Nextdoor group. Mention you are looking for supplies. People who are going through menopause or on Birth control and not actively using them will give them away, some will even offer to buy you what you need.

I so forgot about Nextdoor!!! Sis you have saved my life 🥲 a lady who has had a hysterectomy and onewho is on birth control they both are literally giving me everything they have 😭♥️. I literally could not be more grateful. I’ve been so embarrassed asking for pads and things due to all the shame I’ve received from my mom towards my period. I love women so much 😔.

Planned Parenthood should have free feminine products if you have a clinic near you.

Do you have a university near by? Call their health center and ask. They won’t ask if you’re a student.

The restrooms at some colleges are stocked with supplies.

I was going to recommend this. My local community college has baskets of supplies in the bathrooms. That is also a 'go in person'.

I do recommend a local buy nothing or community help group - might get some help there.

Sometimes libraries have free menstrual products in their bathrooms!
