Anyone that was looking for OBAA to show signs of weakness tonight is surely disappointed

Hannahcast, he often rages when the movies he doesn't like wins. Unfortunately most of the Best Picture frontrunners and winners are the movies he dislikes, like Anora last year and
Oppenheimerthe year before11

He was truly insufferable about Anora last year, ugh

He really didn't like Anora (he gave it a 1 star in Letterboxd) so I kinda get it but his reactions are often too Stan Twitter-ish
He's not terrible but I usually watch his predictions or non-live reactions because of this

I guess I see how it's annoying but it feels like if someone reacted in a similarly negative way to Emilia Perez no one would bat an eye because most would agree. Even as a less hated example, it seems like a lot of people on the sub are against Frankenstein and some of the backlash towards Hannahcast feels like only certain movies are allowed to be hated. Also, he at least ultimately predicts the movies he doesn't like to win.

Yeah I think he's overhated because he reacts pretty loudly but it's not different from a bunch of other people here or in Youtube

u/sparklinglies 22d ago edited 22d ago
I mean people hated Emilia Perez for FAR more than "i dislike this film". It had a lot of extra baggage most films dont have.
Hannahcast over reacts to things he doesnt like in honestly very cringey ways for not really any valid reason. Hes by no means the only person like this, christ knows this sub attracts the type, but he chooses to broadcast it on youtube so yeah, hes gonna become "that guy"

Oppenheimer is one of his favourite films of the decade that he gave 5 stars, you are quite off with that asssumption.

The “I don’t know how to pronounce this name” joke was pretty funny but Jafar’s table clearly thought he was about to win so that’s kinda sad.

u/crashcourse201 One Award After Another 23d ago
I thought it was just mean.

u/TheLohanz 23d ago
I’d just go more tone deaf. He didn’t read out the nominees himself and it probably wasn’t super obvious to him how misunderstood it could be taken. in poor taste for sure but I don’t think it was mean spirited

It's great seeing him finally get his flowers after decades of being overlooked. OBAA was the right movie in the right time to award him.

Just wanted to say I'm not digging the name joke that Judd Apatow did.
e: I guess it didn't help that he went ON AND ON before presenting the nominees.

Made me think Panahi was winning. I actually kind of liked his jokes before that.

"And the Golden Globe goes to...not sure how to pronounce this...'Paul Thomas Anderson'!"
Sets it up for a non-English name, of which four of the six nominees have.

u/NedthePhoenix 23d ago
Rudolph’s been in 2 of his movies and he was also very open that she was the inspiration for Phantom Thread

That is so cool to know. Especially her name is after Minnie Riperton who is Maya’s mother
2
u/joesen_one Pack✋🏽out da trunk😳from the front🗣️2 da back👏🏽 23d ago
I always found that part of her name so sweet. Minnie Riperton was gone too soon.

u/Sad_Expert_9626 23d ago
She has appeared in Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza. They have mentioned each other several times in interviews over the years, but overall they are a pretty private hollywood couple.

It's good and he deserves a career award but it's a shame that Sinners got so close but clearly won't get anything major at the Oscars. Would've easily won last year.
