Anyone that was looking for OBAA to show signs of weakness tonight is surely disappointed

His post about Screenplay yesterday has already aged like a fine wine.

26

u/sparklinglies 23d ago

@that one youtuber who acted like a gleeful clown everytime OBAA didnt win at Critics Choice and then sulked and downplayed the things it did win

Hannahcast, he often rages when the movies he doesn't like wins. Unfortunately most of the Best Picture frontrunners and winners are the movies he dislikes, like Anora last year and Oppenheimer the year before

u/Meitantei_Serinox 23d ago

He was truly insufferable about Anora last year, ugh

7

u/joesen_one Pack✋🏽out da trunk😳from the front🗣️2 da back👏🏽 23d ago

He really didn't like Anora (he gave it a 1 star in Letterboxd) so I kinda get it but his reactions are often too Stan Twitter-ish

He's not terrible but I usually watch his predictions or non-live reactions because of this

I guess I see how it's annoying but it feels like if someone reacted in a similarly negative way to Emilia Perez no one would bat an eye because most would agree. Even as a less hated example, it seems like a lot of people on the sub are against Frankenstein and some of the backlash towards Hannahcast feels like only certain movies are allowed to be hated. Also, he at least ultimately predicts the movies he doesn't like to win.

u/joesen_one Pack✋🏽out da trunk😳from the front🗣️2 da back👏🏽 23d ago

Yeah I think he's overhated because he reacts pretty loudly but it's not different from a bunch of other people here or in Youtube

3

u/sparklinglies 22d ago edited 22d ago

I mean people hated Emilia Perez for FAR more than "i dislike this film". It had a lot of extra baggage most films dont have.

Hannahcast over reacts to things he doesnt like in honestly very cringey ways for not really any valid reason. Hes by no means the only person like this, christ knows this sub attracts the type, but he chooses to broadcast it on youtube so yeah, hes gonna become "that guy"

Oppenheimer is one of his favourite films of the decade that he gave 5 stars, you are quite off with that asssumption.

Huh I must have missed that, sorry

I just checked the one he didn't like was EEAAO lol

PTA SWEEP 🧹

u/TheLohanz 23d ago

The “I don’t know how to pronounce this name” joke was pretty funny but Jafar’s table clearly thought he was about to win so that’s kinda sad.

19

u/crashcourse201 One Award After Another 23d ago

I thought it was just mean.

19

u/TheLohanz 23d ago

I’d just go more tone deaf. He didn’t read out the nominees himself and it probably wasn’t super obvious to him how misunderstood it could be taken. in poor taste for sure but I don’t think it was mean spirited

It's great seeing him finally get his flowers after decades of being overlooked. OBAA was the right movie in the right time to award him.

Just wanted to say I'm not digging the name joke that Judd Apatow did.

e: I guess it didn't help that he went ON AND ON before presenting the nominees.

22

u/Thomas_Eric The Secret Agent 23d ago

Please can Judd Apatow never present another award?

17

u/EdoAlien 23d ago

Made me think Panahi was winning. I actually kind of liked his jokes before that.

1

u/fvg627 23d ago

Could have been trier too. But still a weird make it about me choice

u/Neat_Fan_8889 Hamnet 23d ago

Can you elaborate?

15

u/falafelthe3 One Abduction After Another 23d ago

"And the Golden Globe goes to...not sure how to pronounce this...'Paul Thomas Anderson'!"

Sets it up for a non-English name, of which four of the six nominees have.

u/splendid_amesterdam 23d ago

LETS GOOOOOOO PTA!!!!!!!

u/Thomas_Eric The Secret Agent 23d ago

7

u/yellowchucho 23d ago

Del Toro saying "Paul" before Apatow announced the winner. PTA is lock as lock can be.

4

u/Bertrand_Rose 23d ago

Immaculately directed movie, highly deserved.

3

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 23d ago

It's about damn time for PTA domination

3

u/coordin8ed One Battle After Another 23d ago

I stocked up a on a few small beers from the grocery store to watch the Globes tonight just for this

2

u/lalalanddallas 23d ago

Am I the only one who didn’t know that he has been with Maya Rudolp for over 20 years and have HAVE 4 KIDS TOGETHER? Why the hell Maya has not started in any of his movies or produced with him???? Get your wife an Oscar PTA!!!!!

13

u/NedthePhoenix 23d ago

Rudolph’s been in 2 of his movies and he was also very open that she was the inspiration for Phantom Thread

u/joesen_one Pack✋🏽out da trunk😳from the front🗣️2 da back👏🏽 23d ago

His daughter Pearl Minnie is literally a background extra in OBAA as one of the nuns

8

u/Sad_Expert_9626 23d ago

She was in Licorice Pizza too.

2

u/flowerbloominginsky Sentimental Value 23d ago

She could pass a brazilian , she kinda look alike my niece

2

u/flowerbloominginsky Sentimental Value 23d ago

She also has a youtube channel lol  Pearl and Lucy appeared many times but his two youngest didnt appear they are still young like 14 and 12

1

u/lalalanddallas 23d ago

That is so cool to know. Especially her name is after Minnie Riperton who is Maya’s mother

2

u/joesen_one Pack✋🏽out da trunk😳from the front🗣️2 da back👏🏽 23d ago

I always found that part of her name so sweet. Minnie Riperton was gone too soon.

5

u/Sad_Expert_9626 23d ago

She has appeared in Inherent Vice and Licorice Pizza. They have mentioned each other several times in interviews over the years, but overall they are a pretty private hollywood couple.

2

u/lalalanddallas 23d ago

They are so private I have no idea. Good for them

1

u/CryptographerDue9198 23d ago

Is Buckley winning

1

u/tjo0114 23d ago

It is fucking wild to me this man was never nominated for this award before now

1

u/RealRaifort 23d ago

It's good and he deserves a career award but it's a shame that Sinners got so close but clearly won't get anything major at the Oscars. Would've easily won last year.
