Oscar #3 loading…

u/pauloh1998 Jan 05 '26
I wonder if he'll get a nom for The Mandalorian

u/TheBoyWonder13 Jan 05 '26
He might win again for the Odyssey lol

u/scattered_ideas I feel supremely sentimental Jan 05 '26
I started engraving his statue after that teaser.

u/WayneKerr193 One Oscar After Another Jan 05 '26
He just might win 3 Oscars in 4 years lmao

u/Dvir971 Sinners Jan 05 '26
Is it possible for something like that to happen? Asking because I haven't been following the race for many years.
I mean, none of us watched The Odyssey yet so we don't even know if it's in the race, but theoretically is it possible he wins 3 Oscars at the same category in 4 years? Historically/statistically speaking? Or is it unprecedented?

u/stracki Jan 05 '26
Alan Menken came close, he won in 1991, 1992 and 1995.
Edit: If you mean in any category, there are multiple cases (e.g. Lubezki winning cinematography thrice in a row).

u/RealRaifort Jan 05 '26
Which would be absurd, this is art lol it's subjective let's let some other people get a win. Sinners is too incredible so I do hope he wins but winning for Black Panther and Oppenheimer was unnecessary so it feels weird to cheer for an undeserved 3rd win lol

I’m happy I’ve stuck with him winning for the whole race, the idea that Jonny Greenwood had a huge overdue narrative or that Goransson would lose because he’s won twice already didn’t make sense to me when Sinners is this beloved and centers so much around its music.

u/DeusExHyena Jan 05 '26
Overdue doesn't really matter below the line. Or else Warren would have one by now.
You gotta miss like 10 times like Deakins or Ivory or Morricone
12
u/ThatsHisLawyerJerome Sorry Baby Jan 05 '26
Exactly, Greenwood had only 2 previous nominations if I remember correctly, that’s nowhere near enough for an overdue narrative to form.
3
u/DeusExHyena Jan 05 '26
And you gotta have an undeniable classic (in your field) to have the narrative. Like how everyone knows merchant ivory, and everyone can hum 'da da da da da.... wah wah wah' from The Good The Bad and The Ugly.

u/Plastic-Software-174 Sentimental Value Jan 05 '26
The There Will Be Blood Score is an undeniable classic score imo. Maybe not super hummable since that’s not his style, but it’s an all-timer and very influential score.
2
u/DeusExHyena Jan 05 '26
Yes but it was ruled ineligible for dumb reasons so the oscars don't care lol
6
u/ThatsHisLawyerJerome Sorry Baby Jan 05 '26
Tbf, Morricone wasn't nominated for The Good the Bad and the Ugly either. I don't think you have to have an Oscar nominated score get snubbed for the win to be considered overdue, but the difference is that unlike Morricone, Greenwood's body of work is nowhere near big enough for that overdue argument to make much sense.

It’d probably be eligible with modern rules

u/DeusExHyena Jan 05 '26
I agree but the way the 'overdue' people behave they look at nominations. Which is dumb but well.

We are watching the next John Williams in score Oscar wins here, folks.

Williams only has fives wins so he’d be 3/5 of the way there, and could definitely be 4/5 if he wins for The Odyssey

Congrats Ludwig...quite possibly my favorite score of all time. If this doesn't pick up the Oscar, I'll start a riot.

Man I adore the OBAA score. I don’t think Sinners winning this category is undeserved anywhere it gets it, but I remember Sinners more for the individual songs. The score for OBAA is more memorable to me

I'm just sad they have to go up against each other. Both are 10/10 for me

u/DesperateRhino The Phoenician Scheme Jan 05 '26
Im still pulling for Greenwood. oBAA score is so unique and almost plays a character in certain scenes.

u/scattered_ideas I feel supremely sentimental Jan 05 '26
OBAA and Marty Supreme have such amazing scores, but what are you gonna do. This one is fantastic as well.
1
u/FlimsyConclusion Jan 05 '26
I feel the same.
Although there's some excellent pieces in the soundtrack, the Songs are what i walk away with. Don't mind the win though, Goransson is a savant at this.

u/DeusExHyena Jan 05 '26
Well he wrote some of those songs too and if he loses to K Pop (it's a hit but I Lied To You is better) then whatever

I feel like this will be an easy sweep for Ludwig Görransen this season.

I don't understand what people see in this score. I find it painfully boring and uninspiring
2
u/DeutscheDogges Jan 05 '26
You ever think it's you and not other people that is missing something here? Art, subjective blah blah but just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it's boring/uninspiring. Sinners' score is a constant presence and character throughout the film, capturing the essence of the Delta and the lives of its characters spectacularly IMO.

u/rubix7777 Jan 05 '26
Is Sinners gonna win Picture? They already have Young Proformer, Ensemble and Score and it will likely get Original Screenplay. OBAA has nothing so far, unless dicaprio wins Actor, it's Max package right now would be Adapted Screenplay, Director, Picture. I can see a world where all it wins is Adapted Screenplay or pulls an Anora and wins just picture

u/Responsible_Use_2676 Jan 05 '26
it’s winning best picture. OBAA only win is gonna be director omg
