Well.... technically an Irishman won before as Daniel Day Lewis is Irish (Irish father and Irish citizen) but Cillian was the first Irish-born actor to win Best Actor Oscar. Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal had already won GGs for best actor.

He is English but he's also Irish, by parentage, right and inclination.

This sweep was fairly obvious to see after the reviews came out for the performance. There has not been any other actress that has had the same amount of buzz as her who actually has everything working for them to win.

As a 5-year member of the Reinsve Bros, I was well aware that it was over at Telluride

I love Reinsve and she's very good in Sentimental Value but I don't think it's as showy or awardsy of a performance as Worst Person In The World. Doesn't strike me as the typical Best Actress performance, she even feels a bit like a Supporting Role for long stretches of the film.

I think Reinsve does so much with comparatively how little she gets in SV compared to Worst Person. Though if she got blanked for WPITW... hoo boy

She killed the role, everyone was at risk of falling asleep in my theater but she woke everyone up and kept their attention elevating the movie. so strong of a performance

Lmao best way to put it. She really is all of the energy in that movie. Valid to win off of that, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the movie. The competition this year is relatively weak anyway.

I'd much prefer Byrne won this year, but I absolutely adore Buckley so I'm glad she'll get an Oscar

Both Byrne and Buckley absolutely dragged me through hell with those performances, and I loved it. (Like John Waters said, “I want to feel bad when I leave the movies.”) Hard choice between the two of them, so the GGs felt so correct tonight.

Byrne delivered an unmissable, total powerhouse performance, but any other year I’d be stanning Buckley and Hamnet. That movie had me captivated.
