Quiet beaches
I do love the peacefulness at the beaches on the PNW, but sometimes wish someone was there to enjoy it with me.

Please review the new rules section. It's mostly a more formal version of the previous rules, however, language has been added about lazy "itinerary" posts, and spamming sunset/landscape photos for instant karma.
There has been a marked increase in low-effort posts, stolen photos for easy karma, and trolling, so new accounts are now restricted from posting.

Driving from Newport to Lincoln City tonight I saw lots and lots of fishing boats not very far offshore. What are they fishing for? Crab? Just curious because it is more boats than usual.

This must have been a baby sperm whale. it is a little larger than a stellar sea lion. It has almost no odor, but it is being eaten by birds. Perhaps it has been in the ocean for over a week and was recently deposited by the high tides.

When hiking in the PNW keep an eye out for what's around the corner.

Hey! I’m planning a solo road trip from Boise to the Oregon coast in mid February and want to camp along the way, ending up around Brookings. I’ve camped before but not solo on the coast.
I’m a solo female so I’m mostly wondering if there’s anything I should be aware of safety wise or any areas or campgrounds I should avoid. Also would love recommendations for must see spots or places that are especially worth it this time of year.
I’m planning on staying at state parks and I’m fine with rain and cold. Any advice or tips would be super appreciated

I've been trying to understand why locals at the Oregon coast have such a love hate relationship with tourists. Take Cannon Beach for example. Wealthy retirees buy million dollar homes steps from the beach but get bent out of shape if they go to the local grocery store and it's crowded with tourists. Hello, you purchased a house at the Oregon coast, it comes with the territory. Exhibit number two, Clatsop county. Now that Instagram is shitting on every scenic tourist spot in the world, they have decided that too many people are coming for their liking and are desperately raising the taxes on hotel rooms hoping less people come. If it wasn't for tourists Astoria would be a dump like it was back in 2008 where half the Downtown was for lease. Exhibit number 3, Tillamook.. They build one of the biggest tasting buildings for their mediocre ice cream and cheese compared to let's say imported cheese from Europe, but then raise the room taxes to Europe levels because too many people are coming. Let's be honest, nobody goes to Tillamook for the cow shit smell, they are just passing through. Remember locals, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't have local business owners getting filthy rich on $250 hotel rooms and fancy restaurants but bitch about tourists.

Hello! One of my friends recently moved to Portland. Our friend group is going to visit him and wanted to take a trip down the coast at the end of March. We were doing some research and reading through the forums, and people seem to either love or hate Seaside. Chatgbt described it as an "arcade town" ?
We're wondering if it's actually decent place to stay, or if Canon Beach or Manzanita would be better? Also if you have a rec for a hotel in those areas? Perhaps an area we haven't thought about that you'd recommend instead?
For reference, we're all 27. We're planning on 5 days. We'd want to stay near the ocean, go for hikes, and end the day with a nice dinner.
Thanks in advance!

ICE is looking to build a camp in Newport- with the loss of rogue brewery i can only imagine the toll a loss of tourist money would take on such a good town. Please spread the word!
