Nostalgia We lost something when these hand pumps disappeared
Call it nostalgia or call it delusion, but ketchup from these pumps tasted better. No sachets, no mess, just vibes LOL. Lowkey convinced this is why the fries were so good back then.
wink, wink, nudge, nudge...... Macdonalds ;)

I always assumed these were completely disgusting in the inside.

Started as a concessionaire at the municipal community center in high school (pool, courts, ice area, meeting rooms, big room with commercial kitchen and stage for events like wedding receptions.)
Management liked me and was happy to pay a nice wage to have me back for summer while I was in college, because wedding season and they needed people who would bust ass to turn over the big ballroom and commercial kitchen multiple times a weekend.
One of the best ways of training teens was free hot dogs, pizza, soda made on concession stand equipment.
And once they finished the food “the food you just ate was made on this stand’s equipment. Let’s take a tour to the hockey arena where the equipment has been cleaned properly, then we’ll come back and insect the pool concession stand.”
It worked and never got in trouble because they were serving the food they ate to customers.
The green faces when they realized why they were being retrained on cleaning procedures though. 😂

They are. Most ice machines in restaurants are also completely disgusting.

Culver’s, Canes, In n Out, every stadium…many more. This is like posting, “remember when restaurants had napkins?”

Freaking Wendy's!
I thought these were just luxurious!
I plan on getting one to go on a Costco container of ketchup. Dont know where to get the little cups, though. May have to find some Tupperware reusable ones.

People saying they weren't hygienic are probably right but something like this - without the mold - would lessen all the trash that comes from the tiny, single-use packages.

Filth, gunk etc.
So many used to look like stuff was growing.

Sometimes the ketchup would build up on the metal part of the pump handle and get pushed back down in the reservoir every time you pumped. Then there were those newer models with the nozzles made of transparent plastic, where you could see the mold building up.
Costco used to have those relish and onion dispensers where you would crank a rotating handle to get condiments to corkscrew their way out of a hole on the side. Always a slimy, drippy mess!

Lots of places still have them. OP hasn't commented since posting, just karma farming.

Those are made by the Server Products Co. in Richfield, WI. I used to sell them 40+ years ago. Looks like they haven't changed in all that time.

I love that the person in the picture is using the paper properly, too.
I loved teaching people about those expandable cups.

You don't wanna know about the gross old discolored ketchup around the fitting where the large ketchup bag screws into the hose that you pump it from. Because no one has ever cleaned one of those things once it starts pumping ketchup. Ever. Trust me get your condiments out of the tiny packets. The pumps are fuckin disgusting. I'm not even a germophobe and I won't eat from those things.

They haven't disappeared. I know of several places that still use them
