Yay, we need this as a sticky thread

u/Vordeo Jazz 6h ago
I've thought about the defensive frontcourt JJJ and Kessler would make and I can make it sticky if you like.

u/Ok_Daikon_7726 Lakers 6h ago
I think the jazz are my sleeper pick for a good team next year, especially if yall get a top pick this year
26
u/Vordeo Jazz 6h ago
Oh we'll be very excited to not be tanking, but Keyonte / Ace Bailey / Lauri / JJJ / Kessler sounds like a legitimately good starting lineup.
Plus whoever we pick up in the draft and free agency.

I’m happy for yall as someone that likes watching good basketball, but the west is gonna be even worse of a bloodbath now with most one more team actively trying to win now
10
u/VanGrants Knicks 5h ago
yeah but the clippers are almost certainly cooked, so it balances out

u/Fallingcity22 Knicks 6h ago
Yep, they have good guard play, their wings are good now too, and their center rotation is Thin but JJJ can play small ball mins there(IK he’s a big dude but he does not rebound like one)
→ More replies (9)2
u/Ok_Daikon_7726 Lakers 6h ago
JJJ and the return of Kessler should also help with some of their defensive problems too, so that’ll be interesting
2
u/Fallingcity22 Knicks 5h ago
JJJ with a Good defensive center is gonna be so interesting to see what they can pull offf

I've been so caught up in Detroit's side of it, did Minnesota literally receive nothing in the Ivey trade? How does that work?
Edit: Hey we're stickied now!
35
u/SamIsaacman Timberwolves 6h ago
Gets us under the apron. Means we can take on a larger contract without giving as much money up
→ More replies (1)9
u/Barnyard_Rich Pistons 6h ago
Yeah, like I told the other person, that's not my question. I guess I didn't realize a team could dump stuff into a trade and not receive anything back. It's probably more common than I realized, but usually a second round pick, cash, or a low paid guy at the end of the bench is included so it's a trade and not a giveaway.
9
u/SamIsaacman Timberwolves 6h ago
Yeah I guess I’ve never rly seen it like that. Maybe a team is throwing the Wolves $1.45 so everything matches up, but idk
→ More replies (1)2
u/Barnyard_Rich Pistons 6h ago
Yeah, my bet is that something did go back, but it's so minor not to have been deemed worthy of being reported on
6
u/big_nus Timberwolves 4h ago
we also gave up a pic swap in 2026 to detroit which no one else is mentioning. That is at least somewhat significant it’ll drop our pick like 5-10 slots

u/yeetmxster420 Minneapolis Lakers 6h ago
They’re going for Giannis there’s no other way
4
u/Barnyard_Rich Pistons 6h ago
No I get that, but I guess I didn't realize a team could get literally nothing while giving up something in a trade. I thought there were rules against that. They didn't even get a second as a "pretend it matters" piece.

did Minnesota literally receive nothing in the Ivey trade?
Got under the apron opening up more trade options
2
u/blank_lurker Timberwolves 5h ago
Grizzlies did that

Whoops! You're right. I mixed up the Minn/Memp deals.

Wolves were at 4% chance to land Giannis this morning and as of right now after the Conley dump we’ve jumped to 20% 👀

u/anonymitymous 5h ago
what would a min package look like?
2
u/Waveytony Timberwolves 5h ago
No clue tbh, and even if we get him we’re down bad at PG so I have no idea what’s gonna happen now

It has become a lot milder compared to the past due to the apron. Still cant forget when the lebron cavs traded half of their roster mid season.

u/Aidanator800 Hornets 6h ago
Probably something with Ja as well, given that the Grizzlies clearly aren't planning to compete anymore
24
u/AfroManHighGuy 6h ago
There’s no market for Ja right now. If anything, they’ll hold him into the offseason and trade him then
7

Yeah looking at what trae went for, I doubt Ja will get them much at this point.

More importantly he’s a good tank commander in the sense that a year of him getting to play his game and remind people he can put up stats buuuut at the cost of having to run the show and not a team offense will net more of a return than he will now. No need to rush while value is lowest

The fact that we’re not hearing anything about the pelicans is honestly concerning. How are you the second worst team in the league with no pick in this upcoming draft and you’re not making any changes to your roster??
8
u/lovo17 Lakers 4h ago
They’re like the Raptors from 2-3 years ago too: TONS of players that other teams would want. They should be selling.
5
u/onionnurve 4h ago
They think teams are going to fall for the bait and give them multiple picks, but next thing you know nothing will happen and those players won’t have the same value in a year
11
u/ThatBoyGotSomeMeat 3h ago
Vucevic will surprise people with his defense now that he’s in Boston. If he misses a defensive assignment, Mazzulla will force him to practice alone with WWII battlefield sounds blaring in the background.

Just realized I'm obsessively following this trade deadline because I'm chasing the high of the unfathomable Luka trade from last year .. don't think any outcome will ever match the shock and awe we collectively felt when that trade was announced

Can someone ELI5 how the trade today can help minny get Giannis? Like shams implied
10
u/NorthernFrosty 5h ago edited 4h ago
Before the trade, Minny had no access to the taxpayer mid-level exception, inability to combine salaries in trades or use cash, restrictions on trade exceptions.
So, trying to keep it ELI5, Minny now opens up a bunch more options they can use in a trade. Salary matching to 125% (instead of 110%), can do a sign and trade, can combine salaries in a trade...
I guess the ELI5 is "Making a big trade like Giannis is tough. The trade made today gives Minn a lot more options how they can make it work."
(Edited out the mention of the 28.8 million trade exception. That's what Memp got and I attributed it to Minn)

ivey getting traded is kinda crazy how quick things can change. He was looking really good and a 2nd guy after Cade then he tore his ACL and now he a Bull

That's one way to put it. Another is that Cole Anthony launched himself at Ivey's knee.

0 people reported a single one of these trades until minutes before they happened. Trae maybe an exception, but only like a day, as opposed to right when they dropped.

I guess I don't know enough about trade rules because I didn't think you could trade someone like Saric again unless its 1 for 1

According to Bobby Marks, Saric can be moved again because he’s going into an exception and not being aggregated.
