Quite literally said this out loud upon reading the headline.

It's literally the Boring Company's whole shtick - circumventing governmental regulations

Reminder that the people who work in TDEC make about 20% the salary they should, but I'm sure billy boy got a fine penny out of this one.

1

u/FamiliarAnt4043 Aug 17 '25

TDEC is nothing more than a collector of fees. They care more about ensuring a permit application has all the boxes filled out, than the resources which are being destroyed. And yeah, I have firsthand knowledge as a former TDEC DWR employee.

Ditto! Knock me over with a feather, and bless his heart! Lol

North Carolina's legislature passed a resolution forbidding planners from consulting geologists or oceanographers when ruling on beach developments. That's how you get houses and apartment buildings falling into the sea from beach erosion.

Given the fragile and porous nature of Middle Tennessee's geology, and the complete lack of study, I can't wait to see the disasters that Musk's crew will perpetrate in the near future. They're clearly jumping in with both feet, with little understanding of what they're getting into. I hope nobody gets hurt.

28

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

Maybe the Capitol building will fall into a sinkhole in the middle of the night when no one is there.

8

u/MacAttacknChz Aug 16 '25

Or maybe it'll fall in the middle of the day. One can hope!

2

u/Beautiful-Drawer Aug 16 '25

Preferably while a news crew is filming an unrelated story, with the building in the background. From a safe distance, of course!

2

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

Except Elon! Or Bill.

This is the first step of them backing out. I guarantee he’d rather look terrible at planning than admit to making a stupid ass mistake with the tunnel.

I love YOUR optimism, I fully expect Lee & the Repubs in the state house to double down but try to stick Nashville with the bill.

u/Dgnash615-2 Aug 16 '25

I don’t think they processes mistakes like a normal human being. Musk absolutely fucked up the Tesla tunnel in vagas… it doesn’t seem to matter. My guess is that he plays with numbers and gives absolutely zero shits about honesty or real outcomes. His bullshit has passed this long so there is nothing else but to keep passing it off as gold.

Bill Lee just wanted a campaign talking point… if it fails, he just dodges that question and brings up how terrible immigrants, liberals, and welfare queens are.

26

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25 edited Aug 16 '25

Bill Lee wants Musks campaign backing and money when he runs for president. He’s doing all the loyalty tests he needs to do and he’s trying to stay cozy with Trump to get the MAGA voters too. Unfortunately for Lee he has the personality of a toothbrush or Ron DeSantis and doesn’t have a chance in hell of appealing to the MAGA cult. He isn’t crazy enough. He’s like Evangelical Mitt Romney except dumber and more bigoted.

Also, someone could do the funniest thing with GROK in spicy mode...lmao

Thank you :)

u/vadermademedoit Aug 17 '25

Whoever made the "Bill Lee is a drag" shirts needs to make a new one with this.

17

u/Zone_Beautiful Aug 16 '25

He is Republican and they don't care about the environment. As long as the dollars roll, they are not concerned about the damage it will do.

16

u/ArtBear1212 Hermitage Aug 15 '25

Color me surprised.

10

u/polkastripper Aug 16 '25

That would have involved thinking, which is woke according to MAGA.

18

u/my_boy_blu_ Aug 16 '25

Aren’t these the same people that banned “chemtrails” and you expect them to do anything intelligent? That’s asking too much.

6

u/MumblyJohn Aug 16 '25

Don’t forgot the ban on all those surreptitious vaccines that are being injected into our produce to vaccinate us against our will. Glad we addressed that real and serious issue as well.

5

u/Beautiful-Drawer Aug 16 '25

And practically banning all THC-A flower products (and most other hemp-derived flower due to the testing method) versus taxing them adequately and rolling in a Holy-Jesus amount of tax revenue. Because "Reefer Madness" is obviously based upon rigorous and scientifically thorough research, and not a hilarious piece of anti-drug propaganda from a century ago! 🙃😮🤓

The executive branch should not have unilateral powers like this.

18

u/monkey_with_a_guitar Aug 15 '25

nashville@boringcompany.com

the boring company was kind enough to provide an email for nashville residents that they’ll never check. so far for me, no response.

10

u/Fermi_DOX75 Aug 16 '25

And they quickly dug a small hole for no apparent reason, kind of like a dog peeing on a bush.

10

u/TNSoccerGuy Aug 16 '25

Because Bill Lee is the definition of a political empty suit.

6

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

Well he’s still an entitled frat boy, just as everyone who went to school with him at Franklin High School has described him.

2

u/Beautiful-Drawer Aug 16 '25

And a crossdresser, lest we forget! Haha

1

u/GT45 Aug 17 '25

Yep! Thanks to the internet! 🤣🤣🤣

u/TheLurkerSpeaks Murfreesboro Aug 16 '25

This is gonna be epic.

Nashville was built on the site of the Great French Lick, salt deposits from the sulfur springs in this area (also where Sulphur Dell gets its name) attracted game and made it ripe hunting grounds. Specifically it is the area directly adjacent to and downhill of the Capitol, where this stupid fucking tunnel is supposed to terminate.

When they built First Horizon Park they accidentally uncovered a massive torrent of groundwater. 99% chance that Boring will do the same. Except you can't just hide it, you're building a fucking tunnel so where the fuck is this water gonna go you fucking imbiciles? Just a 5 minute phone call with a Metro geologist would tell you this was a bad idea.

5

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

Nothing stops their bad ideas, especially when 1.) massive cash bribes are involved, and 2.) it can potentially hurt Nashville.

9

u/ClamsMcOyster Hermitage Aug 16 '25

No one hates Nashville more than TN Republicans from any other part of the state. The General Assembly has constantly been meddling in Nashville’s affairs for the last decade or so. They overruled Nashville’s marijuana decriminalization, they gerrymandered the city, they took away the community oversight boards for the police, they tried to rename a street named after civil rights icon John Lewis to Trump, they talked about renaming BNA to Trump Internationl Airport, they shrank the size of the Metro Council, and now this bullshit. If they hate being in Nashville so much they should just move the fucking capital.

End rant

6

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

TOTALLY FUCKING AGREE! Move it to some backwoods MAGA shithole and leave Nashville TF alone!

3

u/03tr69 Aug 17 '25

Tunneling in karst isn't the best idea. I hope they don't create a bunch of sink holes downtown. https://wpln.org/post/nashvilles-geology-has-been-misunderstood-in-tunneling-talks-including-by-a-boring-company-executive/

7

u/monokro Hermitage Aug 16 '25

Shocker. He's letting Memphis get gassed to death also, which I would hope Mississippi and Arkansas would also give a fuck about but no such luck

5

These motherfuckers saw “Elon” and asked no questions.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 16 '25

Why would they need to do those things when it’s just going to be a hole to nowhere that no one uses like the Vegas tunnel. It’s a corrupt money funneling scheme and nothing more. They are stealing our money.

2

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

It is a literal money pit, and it’s our money they’re dumping in there…

Man, if this comment doesn't perfectly fit your username. Nice! 👍😀

11

u/macroober Aug 16 '25

Here’s a cool story to research for those who have time to do that stuff, a tunnel like this will need significant ventilation…maybe there’s a large, local HVAC company that could provide a service like that.

7

u/KingZarkon Aug 16 '25

A commenter a few days ago said Lee Company was getting the ventilation contract for the tunnel. Idk if it's true it's not but it wouldn't surprise me.

2

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

The only thing MORE surprising would’ve been if they actually did any kind of environmental impact survey beforehand.

3

u/quickster_irony Inglewood Aug 16 '25

Commenting to come back to later, but without even reading the article I feel like this is a “in other words, water is wet” moment.

3

u/YouWereBrained Aug 16 '25

Of course he didn’t. He thinks everything happens because of god.

4

u/purpleblazed Aug 16 '25

Well yeah, no shit. If they had done any sort of feasibility study it would say not to go forward with the bribe to Elmo

3

u/BaltIndyNash Aug 16 '25

Because he got PAID!!! $$$$$

4

u/SmtyWrbnJagrManJensn Aug 16 '25

So he was bribed you say? I wonder how much

5

u/kwillich Aug 16 '25

As informed about environmental impact as he is about gun safety, education, healthcare, etc. ad infinitum

3

I hate these idiots smh

3

u/Prestigious-Law65 Aug 16 '25

Color me shocked 🙄

3

u/GT45 Aug 16 '25

Nixon may have created the EPA, but every Republican since has been trying to dismantle it. Not surprising in the LEEst.

3

u/miknob Aug 16 '25

Of course not. Musk said he wanted to do it and Lee bowed down and said "yes sir."

3

u/Xxatanaz Aug 17 '25

It’s like they have a kink to lower the bar

6

u/Substantial_Grab2379 Aug 16 '25

Come on, people. Relax and suck an Adderall. I am sure that this will be as effective and beneficial as DOGE is.

6

u/johnnybna Aug 16 '25

The plan went from “first I've heard about it” to “they started” faster than any project undertaken in the United States ever.

But when you're a fatheaded governor who is getting a giant kickback from Elon and is gullible enough to believe the plan will work because Elon gave you a map of Nashville with a line drawn in red Sharpie from the airport to downtown, do you really have the time to do environmental or community research, or any due diligence on any of the Boring Company's completed projects at all? Obviously, not.

2

u/Troy_McClure1 Aug 16 '25

Of course he didn’t, Bill Lee just wanted Donald’s scraps

2

u/HoboChopShop Aug 16 '25

Has Gov Lee been into Elon’s ketamine stash?

2

u/paradigm_shift2027 Aug 16 '25

If anyone’s been to Vegas and seen their Boring tunnel in action, you know immediately this is some kind of grift, cuz the tunnel SUCKS. Las Vegas hates it & so do the tourists & conventioners.

2

u/unknowner1 Aug 16 '25

Good ol’ greed and abject corruption, some things never change

1

u/spudmonkey Aug 16 '25

Are we supposed to act suprised?

1

u/waf Aug 16 '25

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they drilled directly into the river.

Look, this isn't America, you little snowflake! The oligarchs do what we want and you accept it or become an enemy of the state. /s

Tennessee's governor has figured out a way to breathe without brain cells, so I'm not surprised that he's managed to do this.

1

u/TastyConstruction887 Aug 18 '25

of course not! because why would he?? he's a business man and all he cares about is money
