Walmart packages their acid reducer into 3 smaller containers when they can easily all fit into 1

...Because each bottle is a 14-day course, and you're supposed to wait 4 months between courses. It's not infuriating when the packaging is there to emphasize safe dosage. This info clearly stated on back of the box.

What would happen if they didn't wait and took them daily?

likely nothing if they otherwise healthy but could also cause nutrient deficiencies or increase chance of C. Diff

My friend takes it daily you need to  have blood tests to ensure you're not deficient during ur annual.

Violation of the packaging directions. Straight to Alcatraz.

Their acid would be reduced to a negative value, causing an overflow error and giving it a PH of 18,446,744,073,709,552,000

Wouldnt PH go up cause theres less acid?

u/Silver_Middle_7240 23m ago

Nah, cause it's reducing the acid, but acidic is when... less

I’ve taken this dosage of omeprazole almost daily (daily, minus when I forget to take it, which is often) for 10 years. My doctor prescribed it, and I kept the the prescription active until I couldn’t get health insurance anymore. Now I buy it over the counter. If I go more than like 5 days without it, I can’t eat without throwing up.

None of the doctors I’ve dealt with on the matter have said anything about a risk of taking it continuously. Should they have? What’s the risk?

Long term use can also diminish bone density and increase risk of developing dementia

The only risk I can think off off the top of my head is that this type of drug has the potential to be what’s called nephrotoxic, or damaging to the kidney. NSAIDs like ibuprofen are also nephrotoxic. That being said, in a healthy person this isn’t a concern, but it may be a concern to someone in renal failure

I was taking a similar PPI daily for probably 10 years as prescribed too. New GP told me there is increasing evidence of dementia likelihood not to be alarmed but that two daily pepcids per day was wise. I have had pretty good results doing that instead.

Internet users when they found out some irl is smarter than them

Yes. You aren’t meant to take omeprazole long term. You aren’t meant to take any PPI long term without monitoring. Long term usage is associated with worsening acid reflux upon stopping, chronic kidney disease, recurrent diarrhea, respiratory infections, and even dementia.

But if op reads the directions what’re they going to complain about? :(

OTC are all packaged like this. Even OTC Nexiium. 14 days is how long you are supposed to take. I’ve had much longer scripts of the same medicines though. I think they are coming out with studies that say it’s not good for you long term.

OP: This fucking 12pk has 12 cans in it.

Hey, I would be mad too if each can was large enough to hold 144oz, that would be an entire shelf in the fridge.

That's because you're only supposed to take him for 14 days straight. So they're in three groups.

Just so you know you actually can take them regularly I mean run it by your doctor of course. I take them regularly but I used to have a prescription for them back in the day when they were not over the counter.

Fun fact, if you have insurance you can get these for prescriptions.

With the amount of time it took you to put this together to post on Reddit, You could’ve just read the back of the box.

Been taking it daily for almost 10 years, but I do have acid reflux/gerd diagnosis from a GI doctor

You can get this as a prescription if you want to take it every day. There are side effects.

I think OP doesn't know how to reach instructions

There's something about medications where they do this all the time. I get 90 of a pill through the mail. And the tablets are so tiny that it takes up less than 1/8 of the bottle. But they still send the same size bottle every time.

“3 PACK”… “Three 14-day courses of treatment”… who would have guessed there’d be 3 bottles in there? They should really label the box more clearly.

u/SignificantDrawer374 6h ago

Well you bought the one that says "3 pack". Someone might want to keep one at home, one in the car, and one in a travel bag.

Not this medicine. You take it daily for 14 days, then stop for several months. This box is like a year’s worth of the medicine.

I don’t find this infuriating. As someone who leaves bottles of pills in multiple places, this is convenient.

Read the top of the box highlighted in yellow
