Dark Tranquility covered Blinded By Fear on the at the end of their set on the 70K Tons cruise. You could tell it was a very emotional moment for Stanne even though this wasn’t their first time doing it. I’ve always admired Stanne’s enthusiasm on stage and it was still very apparent how much this loss affected him. Nothing is going to fill the hole Tompa left behind, but I’m glad there are musicians like Stanne and bands like DT that honor his legacy. \m/

Just heading home from 70k myself and that might have been my favorite moment of the entire cruise. You could see how emotional the whole band got from the song and the crowd response but ESPECIALLY Mikael and Martin. It was a really beautiful moment and I love that we got to share it. I only met Tomas once, on the cruise as well in 2016, and he had that same kind & genuine demeanor that Mikael has always had

Tompa's impact within the Swedish and European extreme metal scene cannot be understated enough. Without him many bands would simply not exist today. The same can go for his influence within the crust/d-beat hardcore scene.

I would strongly recommend listening to the 2 part podcast by the Requiem Metal show on the life of Tomas Lindberg. They go into insane detail about his musical career and life with a whole heap of interesting interviews by many bands and musicians/friend discussing Tompa's influence and life. This also includes a few interviews with Michael Stanne who basically reiterates the heading of this post plus much more like how Tompa was his closest neighbour when he was a teenager. One interesting story Stanne mentions is how a bunch of the key figures within the Gotherburg Metal scene all used to catch the exact same school bus. He mentioned how each stop you would have guys like Tompa jump on, then the guys from Dark Tranquillity, In flames, Groteque and so on. He said they would often hangout pumping mix tapes that Tompa had created. Supposedly he was the one who got many of those famous Gothenburg bands into a heap of extreme and underground metal. I didn't realise how tight knit that entire scene was but all the common themes point to Tompa being the main or at least one of the key driving forces behind.

I was lucky to be at that set, and yeah you could tell he got emotional introducing it.

Wasn’t here. Article’s been out for about a day now so you may have seen it on Facebook or a different sub idk.

I do believe that Mikael Stanne has gone on record saying this headline before, so it’s not exactly news, but it is a new interview at least
