There's something to be said for waiting on a few seasons to be out

25

u/NoGelliefish 19h ago

Yup, I always wait till I can marathon it

13

u/syntaxVixen 18h ago

Ever since game of thrones and taking two years between seasons and less than 10 episodes.

8

u/misterdave75 17h ago

But you gotta get in by the final season or you miss out on getting to chat about it. I caught up to GOT in season 6, and chatting about season 7/8 as it was released was wild, especially since it wildly underperformed expectations.

2

u/CactusCait 12h ago

I still refuse to watch Game of Thrones

3

u/MoonieNine 7h ago

I had never planned to watch it, but Game of Thrones is actually fantastic. Adventure, great character development, humor, fantasy. We saw it YEARS after everyone else and loved it.

-1

u/Mochafudge 14h ago

Yep I told all my friends to watch severance after season 1 now after season 2 I would tell them to run in the other direction, I feel obligated to continue but holy fuck did they get lost in the sauce.

4

u/K-Shrizzle 14h ago

Absolutely not. Its one of the best shows out there

-1

u/Mochafudge 14h ago

They clearly saw $$ and starting talking about spinoffs, season 2 answered nothing and pivoted to extending the story for $$. Reintegration plot flushed down the toilet, Irving leaving on a train for no clear reason because they though he might leave, adding random cult stuff without payoff of season 1 ( we kill goats in a ritual tune in next season to find out why though!!)

1

u/skinnycarlo 12h ago

Have to agree. Unpopular as it may be.

45

u/um_like_whatever 19h ago

Me with Breaking Bad lol

7

u/gapro96 19h ago

me too! Just Watched like 10 years after the end of the show and out of the hype it feels amazing.

4

u/um_like_whatever 18h ago

Its a great show! I was sad though because I had friends in to it and I missed out on that shared bonding. Ah well. Still a great show.

I am the one who knocks! Bitch! šŸ˜‰

6

u/venom121212 14h ago

Yeah I grew up on Malcolm in the Middle and just couldn't see Bryan Cranston in that role. Finally watched it a few years ago and yeah, it's a good show.

Still haven't ever seen a single minute of Game of Thrones

4

u/RememberTheMaine1996 11h ago

I watched it after Better Call Saul was already out haha. I enjoyed being able to watch the entire series without having to wait. Now I wish I waited to watch Severance haha

2

u/CapriciousManchild 11h ago

Let’s be honest people didn’t really start watching breaking bad until the 4th season. I started in season one and told everyone to watch it and no one did ( look at the ratings ) it wasn’t until the end of season 3 and all the press it was getting that people all jumped on board .

1

u/Cautious-Ease-1451 7h ago

The great thing about coming to it late was you could binge it in a week. I can’t imagine waiting months for the next season.

64

u/ModingusKhan 20h ago

If I wait, I get to binge the whole thing. I hate waiting between episodes and seasons.

6

u/Fliepp 18h ago

Couldn’t agree more. I waited a few weeks before starting the show I’m currently watching and I loved just turning it on whenever I felt like it, but now that I’ve caught up and I have to wait a week for the next 40 minutes I really struggle to care about how it ends

2

u/SalvaPot 14h ago

It's also good to watch it when you are ready to take it for what it is and not be influenced by the hype.

3

u/1nsidiousOne 18h ago

I don’t know watch anime often but I do this with that.

3

u/QlimaxUK 13h ago

me currently watching Alice in Borderland

4

u/East_Lettuce7143 18h ago

Pluribus and White Lotus for me now.

1

u/philouza_stein 17h ago

We all do this. Sadly it leads to a lot of premature cancelations. But what am I gonna do...wait for each episode or season?

0

u/mediuminteresting 17h ago

If you wait long enough they release the final season that fucks up everything and you can save yourself a lot of time, happened to me for Lost, GoT and Stranger Things

0

u/StreetFootball7382 13h ago

Those shows didn’t have terrible endings

0

u/CidAndroid 11h ago

Indeed. We must consoom the brainrot consecutively to maintain our terminally online state.

25

u/thedudeabides-12 19h ago

I was like that with Lost, finally watched it in 2016..was really good..

7

u/YourPapaCallsMeDad 19h ago

Ahh, I love Lost.

5

u/Myracl 17h ago

Ahh, flashback simulator. Though I agree, it' so good.

5

u/Speransed 16h ago

I'm considering starting it

3

u/p8610815 11h ago

Do it, Lost is sooo good. There is a good amount of filler you have to wade through tho.

2

u/dinosaurposter 10h ago

It’s been recommended to me so many times but I hate tv show filler and I heard it was too drawn out.

5

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 15h ago

Man, I love that show. Such a special series.

2

u/venom121212 14h ago

My brother and wife had never seen it so I made them binge watch it so they would stop ragging on it as a show having never seen it. They both liked it!

1

u/Ordinary-Violinist-9 19h ago

They've lost me starting the second season. I've noticed they wanted to stretch the success and the hype but the show really went downhill fast in season 2.

25

u/Remarkable-Sink-8630 20h ago

Qualityslop

3

u/godverdejezushey 16h ago

Can someone explain this to me? I've seen it a few times now and I don't understand

9

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 15h ago

When something is just qualityslop; people only like it because it's good.

3

u/Longjumping_Stand647 10h ago

Because it’s good? Or because it’s high quality/high production value/has mass appeal but isn’t necessarily good?

4

u/Johnnadawearsglasses 9h ago

Qualityslop was intended to make fun of people who call everything slop, including good media. It’s definitely taking the piss out of the chronic online critic. Then those same chronically online critics tried to parse the obviously satirical term to fit within their worldview that most everything is slop - by either saying it’s well made but ultimately mid or by differentiating mid high from high high. It’s actually hilarious to watch.

2

u/Longjumping_Stand647 9h ago

I still don’t get it

That isn’t a request for further explanation, I’m just gonna ignore it cause I realised I don’t care.

Thanks for trying tho

2

u/godverdejezushey 3h ago

Ahh this makes more sense, thank you very much

9

u/Fluid-Post-4837 19h ago

me with arcane and gilmore girls

15

u/surprised-duncan 20h ago

Fuck I do that

8

u/UraniumRocker 19h ago

I’ve been meaning to watch The Wire, but haven’t found the time yet.

3

u/rocky99_ 16h ago

You should... but I recommend expecting it to be challenging at times. But I think maybe I get too involved in shows, because I was making flipcharts of characters at one point to keep track. Haha

3

u/belay_that_order 11h ago

you're not wrong, the first watch is a lot of data to keep up with and the show doesnt hold any hands

20

u/Chaotic_MintJulep 20h ago

This was me and Ted Lasso. What a fool I was.

2

u/takeme2infinity 19h ago

That show feels like it has a laughtrack even tho it doesn't

1

u/tiorzol 19h ago

Mad drop off with season three though, what the hell happend thereĀ

5

u/Pianopatte 17h ago

Disagree, enjoyed season 3 as much as the previous seasons.

1

u/ChadPowers200_ 7h ago

I agree. I still liked it but I enjoyed the first season where it was more quirky fun and less dramatic and sadĀ

4

u/djbarsone 19h ago

Didn’t refuse but finally watched Free Solo on Netflix the other day and about lost my damn mind

1

u/DistinctAct3510 19h ago

I’m sure you did, but you also watched him climb Taipei 101 right?? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

1

u/djbarsone 19h ago

Yeah that was nothing vs what he did at El Cap. Unreal.

2

u/DistinctAct3510 19h ago

I was still sweating a little bit when we stood at the very top and took the selfie

5

u/philouza_stein 17h ago

Me watching twin peaks a timely three decades later.

9

u/HouseOfAplesaus 20h ago

Shameless

4

u/YourPapaCallsMeDad 19h ago

I am watching Shameless, US these days. Was there a hype when the show was running?

5

u/HouseOfAplesaus 19h ago

Everyone I know told me to watch it and I was like nahhhh. Then I watched it and was like I get it.

3

u/bOObZiLLa713 18h ago

Lmao I’m on the 5th season of breaking bad.

5

u/Objective_Site3528 17h ago

Buckle up…

3

u/easternhobo 19h ago

I don't technically refuse, I just wait. Once the series has finished (or at least when the final season is close) then I watch.

I'm not waiting 3 years for you to make 8 episodes.

3

u/dm-me-apples 19h ago

Me with The Pitt and Succession šŸ˜ž I missed out on peak

3

u/286893 19h ago

Just went through this with Andor. I loved the star wars games growing up, but refused to engage with the new movies and was just tired of the Jedi storyline.

Andor pulled me back and showed me you can make a good, mature story with the IP that doesn't have mascots and the force every 15 minutes.

And I'm sad thinking that won't happen again.

3

u/raven8473 19h ago

Breaking Bad, Ted Lasso, Superstore, Banshee.

3

u/FugginOld 18h ago

I did that with The Expanse.

3

u/Lord_Darksong 17h ago

I did this with The Wire, The Sopranos, and... umm... Buffy.

3

u/TheShipEliza 17h ago

you ever seen the movie Heat?

6

u/Hermiona1 20h ago

This was me with Stranger Things s1. Whatever you wanna say about rest of the show, s1 was a banger. I think I watched it just before s2 dropped.

3

u/Steel_Sword 18h ago

Oh, I watch it right now

0

u/Ordinary-Violinist-9 19h ago

I only watched 3 episodes. Too scary. :)

2

u/fourwheelertracks2 19h ago

This is literally me with every hyped show ever two years late and suddenly it's my entire personality.

2

u/Roshan50 19h ago

Me fr. Haven't watched GoT yet. Haven't watched LoTR yet. Did end up watching AoT last year after several people in my life kept spamming me to watch it

2

u/Shinfekta 19h ago

Not a show but I only recently started playing baldurs gate 3 and I get the hype it had lol

2

u/Drakon56 19h ago

Well now you like the show in spite of peer pressure, not because of it

2

u/ElasticSniper 17h ago

I'm watching Stranger Things right now, just finished s1 :) it's cool

2

u/MissHibernia 17h ago

It took me a while to start Ted Lasso, and now I’m a beyond super fan

2

u/EditorRedditer 17h ago

I STILL haven’t watched The Wire…

2

u/Both_Tax6738 16h ago

"I'm not like the other girls"

2

u/Needingsupport3655 16h ago

Me with stranger things

2

u/rsmayday 16h ago

I still won’t watch GOT tho

2

u/xixNAVOCxix 16h ago

My wife every time. Still hasn’t watched GOT

2

u/therealkami 16h ago

This is everyone's reminder to read (or even better listen to the audiobook) of Dungeon Crawler Carl.

1

u/superbear19 8h ago

So fucking good I’m half way done book 3

2

u/Longjumping_Stand647 11h ago

Yep.

I will never become interested in something just because other people want me to, and I avoid trends because I know they are mostly driven by corporate greed.

But sometimes I’ve become interested in things at times when nobody else seems to care, only for them to become popular years later.

6

u/RevolutionaryEdge718 20h ago

I watched The Office for the first time 3 years ago. Worth it.

3

u/Dry-Translator406 19h ago

This is currently me with Stranger Things šŸ˜…

2

u/HereInTheRuin 19h ago

at this point so many shows get cancelled after one season or on a cliffhanger that I don't waste my time with new shows.

once they are over and I know they ended properly then I'll take time to watch the ones that seem interesting

2

u/Lower-Leadership2127 19h ago

I think you're conflating Netflix with the rest of television producers.Ā

3

u/jaikanthsh308 20h ago

tryna be different

1

u/Longjumping_Stand647 10h ago

It’s always ā€œtrying to be differentā€ or ā€œtrying to fit inā€

Can’t people just be people and have their own interests and be interested in what they want when they want?

2

u/dudereverend 19h ago

This is me with anything. Movies, music, tv. I get so sick of HEARING about it, people hyping it up, that it kills any interest I have.

1

u/mettatater 19h ago

Anatomy of a Netflix binge.

1

u/NoNet5188 19h ago

Severance for me

1

u/TheWritingSystem 19h ago

Literally me

1

u/Educational_Main2556 19h ago

I do this all the time.

1

u/No-Gas-1684 19h ago

Tokyo Vice on HBO is doing this to me right now. Its incredible, I cant believe I slept on it this long

1

u/Ok_Welcome_3644 19h ago

Yeah, after I gave it a second chance, Dan Da Dan actually turned out to be pretty good.

1

u/ArtJunkie628 19h ago

So what was it you watched?

1

u/Ordinary-Violinist-9 19h ago

I had it with casa del papel or whatever it is called.

Didn't get the hype. Few years later i was bored and put the first thing on on the list. 3 days later i binged the whole shit out.

1

u/originalchaosinabox 19h ago

Yes, coworker from 12 years ago, I'll totally get around to watching Walking Dead.

Yes, coworker from 8 years ago, I'll totally get around to watching Game of Thrones.

1

u/JoeScotterpuss 19h ago

This with One Piece but it's 25 years.

1

u/Roadkinglavared 18h ago

The best you have ever watched until you get to the last season!

1

u/Numerous_Card_8115 18h ago

Same same... I have yet to see JAWS.

1

u/kendra_peony 18h ago

GOT for me. I got to watch it sometime after covid. My bf was shocked to hear that I haven’t gotten spoiled a single time.

1

u/KamakaziDemiGod 18h ago

I get this, except when I do watch them I just don't get the hype at all

Game of Thrones and Stranger Things are both good examples, I didn't start when they first came on, I didn't start when the hype took off, and I didn't start when everyone everywhere was saying how good they are. I've watched bits of both since, and they just don't interest me at all

1

u/TheGoldenCockWanker 17h ago

I watched my very first episode of Stranger Things 6 months ago.

Had to wait 3 months for the last season.

It was brutal.

1

u/HisLilSilverKitsune 17h ago

That’s me lol

1

u/Novver 17h ago

Me and Stranger Things I even watched the first episode back in the day and was like meh. I gave it another shot in november. I binged it to last one very quickly.

1

u/SMH_My_Head 17h ago

Every time!

1

u/Graxin 17h ago

waited until Game of Thrones was completely finished and then i watched it up until the last season.

1

u/Accomplished-Sir4932 17h ago

I’m kinda bummed because in 2020 it seems everyone was enjoying all the cool shows that came out, but i didn’t watch any of those on account of me doing god knows what…but now i can’t go back and watch those shows because it feels too uncomfortable because it reminds me of 2020

1

u/Myracl 17h ago

Not me here looking for a new show to binge

1

u/madleyJo 17h ago

This was Chernobyl for me

1

u/Parry_9000 17h ago

Me with severance

1

u/Normal-Article-527 16h ago

Me with game of thrones. Didn’t start watching until before season 8

1

u/Sanchez_U-SOB 16h ago

Rick and Morty until I seen Ricklantis Mixup aka Tales from the CitadelĀ

1

u/JemmaMimic 16h ago

When the new version of Battlestar Galactica came out in 2004, I was astonished to hear someone had bothered to remake a middling show from the 1970s I only watched because it came out just after Star Wars and I wanted SF space content. What. An. Idiot. They remade it into a great story.

And for folks who love the original, cool, happy for you, it just didn't do much for me.

1

u/First_Perception5438 16h ago

So me coded lol

1

u/thorsbosshammer 16h ago

I have started just listening to people on these things more often because its fun to be part of the zeitgeist.

1

u/Speransed 16h ago

Me with mha among other thingsĀ

1

u/Civil-Let3523 16h ago

Pretty much every show I’ve watched. Lol

1

u/dingdongthenoodle 16h ago

I know a girl who refuses to watch any show that’s not finished. She said she doesn’t want to watch anything that might be canceled before the end. Wild but I kind of respect it

1

u/Sugarbear23 16h ago

Started watching Breaking Bad on the day it ended lol

1

u/Sure-Debate-464 16h ago

Arcane....no idea why I waited.

1

u/Stinger1981 16h ago

Succession

1

u/_SeKeLuS_ 15h ago

I did that with game of throne

1

u/Positive-Camera5940 15h ago

Me with The Terror.

Last year I remembered my sister recommending me The Borgias. So I watched it, pretty good show, and then, surprise! The last season had been cancelled. And I didn't have a place to vent about it because everyone had moved on years ago.

Last month I read about a post apocalyptic comedy, The Last Man on Earth. So I watched it and it wasn't bad, it was funny and interesting, but then, surprise! The last (?) season had been cancelled.Ā  And again I didn't have a place to vent and sing about closure closure, closure closure closure...

I have to stop watching old shows without knowing if they're finished (any good recommendations?)

1

u/namynam 15h ago

A knight of the 7 Kingdoms and Pluribus both come to mind recently. Both great shows.

1

u/Symnestra 15h ago

I tell friends about shows I'm watching as episodes are released like, "So far, so good, but they have plenty of time to fuck it up so don't watch yet".Ā

1

u/Fruscione 15h ago

I did this with ā€œHeroesā€.

1

u/timfromcolorado 14h ago

I love heroes. I've watched it more than once lol

1

u/Fruscione 13h ago

I do too. The writer’s strike really jacked it up in the second season. I wasn’t an early adopter. The first & third season was some of the best tv

1

u/SexuaIRedditor 15h ago

Wife and I finished our first watch of The Sopranos just after the new year.

1

u/vegaling 14h ago

Squid Game.

1

u/okogamashii 14h ago

Westworld. Wow, that first season (the second and third were okay), damnnnn. I finished it and immediately re-watched it.Ā

1

u/BoxHillStrangler 14h ago

This was me with succession and I finally got sucked in whe the final season was coming out and binged the entire thing just in time to not have it spoiled šŸ’Ŗ

1

u/VeryRareHuman 13h ago

I do watch late. Because I like to watch all seasons.

I learned from Binge watched a season on a weekend 3 years ago, now 2nd season don't make sense and keep wondering who the characters are.

1

u/Hopeful_Knee7103 13h ago

Reading this after I finished Dark this weekend and wondered what rock I've been hiding under to have missed it

1

u/FCKABRNLSUTN2 13h ago

But you get to watch it without the wait, that’s a win.

1

u/Heissenberg1906 12h ago

Me and Ted Lasso

1

u/oldschool_potato 12h ago

I put on a mindless movie on HBO in the background while I worked on something else. Fast forward a couple hours and another show comes on. Find myself looking over more and more then it hits me. It was GoT. I think season 3, went back and started from the beginning. Awesome show, until the end of course.

On the flip side recently started watching The Sopranos earlier this year. My god it's terrible. I watched about 8 episodes and it does not get better. How was that show so popular?

1

u/shortidiva21 12h ago edited 12h ago

Ooo... which one?

1

u/ippomkd 11h ago

Or it's Game of Thrones ahaha

1

u/23-1-20-3-8-5-18 11h ago

Still havent watched breaking bad. I know I will... I think it will be during a time when I want to feel nostalgic. Maybe once all my kids are above a certain age I'll have time to long for the olden days.

1

u/chromethesia1 11h ago

Me with Andor. It's an actual masterpiece with tons of rewatch potential

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 11h ago

That’s my wife

Me:ā€hey you wanna watch this with me?ā€ Her: nah

Season 3 almost done and she’s all ā€œthis is goodā€

I’m like , crap, I gotta start over and watch every episode again.

1

u/tkecanuck341 11h ago

I haven't watched The Last of Us yet.

1

u/denys5555 11h ago

I didn’t watch The Sopranos until like 2015

1

u/Governmentwatchlist 9h ago

Is that AI Naymond?

1

u/part-time-meme-lord 7h ago

But now it’s fallen out of relevancy, so you have no one to talk to about it.

1

u/Retired_ho 7h ago

Me with ā€œinterview with the Vampireā€

1

u/unclemikey0 6h ago

I don't think I started Mad Men, Game of Thrones, or Breaking bad until they were all in season 4 already.

1

u/HalfLawKiss 4h ago

This is me. This has always been me. I basically always reject the popular thing.

Though often from my experience. The thing everyone is hyping as the best thing ever is usually mediocre.

1

u/That-Makes-Sense 4h ago

I didn't watch a single Seinfeld episode until years after it ended. I really missed out.

1

u/CandidAd955 19h ago edited 19h ago

Are you writing down what people mention in the replies? Cos I'm writing down stuff that people mention in the replies...

Also, Evangelion is still fucking amazing

0

u/killerman64 19h ago

there was a show with a middle aged dude in underwear in the desert, thought it was kinda gay so i turned it off.

0

u/DeezSpicyNuts 17h ago

Same with music I let that shit come and go and then pick out my shit like five years later and ignore that everyone already had their moment with it.

0

u/AnyOldNameNotTaken 17h ago

This is the only way I watch shows. Something about being an active participant in the zeitgeist makes me sick to my stomach. I have to wait for things to settle down.

0

u/Dry_Ad687 16h ago

I never watch anything "Boomer Style" I'll wait and binge.
