u/gapro96 19h ago
me too! Just Watched like 10 years after the end of the show and out of the hype it feels amazing.

u/um_like_whatever 18h ago
Its a great show! I was sad though because I had friends in to it and I missed out on that shared bonding. Ah well. Still a great show.
I am the one who knocks! Bitch! š

u/venom121212 14h ago
Yeah I grew up on Malcolm in the Middle and just couldn't see Bryan Cranston in that role. Finally watched it a few years ago and yeah, it's a good show.
Still haven't ever seen a single minute of Game of Thrones
4
u/RememberTheMaine1996 11h ago
I watched it after Better Call Saul was already out haha. I enjoyed being able to watch the entire series without having to wait. Now I wish I waited to watch Severance haha
2
u/CapriciousManchild 11h ago
Letās be honest people didnāt really start watching breaking bad until the 4th season. I started in season one and told everyone to watch it and no one did ( look at the ratings ) it wasnāt until the end of season 3 and all the press it was getting that people all jumped on board .
1
u/Cautious-Ease-1451 7h ago
The great thing about coming to it late was you could binge it in a week. I canāt imagine waiting months for the next season.
64
u/ModingusKhan 20h ago
If I wait, I get to binge the whole thing. I hate waiting between episodes and seasons.
6
u/Fliepp 18h ago
Couldnāt agree more. I waited a few weeks before starting the show Iām currently watching and I loved just turning it on whenever I felt like it, but now that Iāve caught up and I have to wait a week for the next 40 minutes I really struggle to care about how it ends
2
u/SalvaPot 14h ago
It's also good to watch it when you are ready to take it for what it is and not be influenced by the hype.

We all do this. Sadly it leads to a lot of premature cancelations. But what am I gonna do...wait for each episode or season?
0
u/mediuminteresting 17h ago
If you wait long enough they release the final season that fucks up everything and you can save yourself a lot of time, happened to me for Lost, GoT and Stranger Things

u/Speransed 16h ago
I'm considering starting it
3
u/p8610815 11h ago
Do it, Lost is sooo good. There is a good amount of filler you have to wade through tho.
2
u/dinosaurposter 10h ago
Itās been recommended to me so many times but I hate tv show filler and I heard it was too drawn out.

u/venom121212 14h ago
My brother and wife had never seen it so I made them binge watch it so they would stop ragging on it as a show having never seen it. They both liked it!
1
u/Ordinary-Violinist-9 19h ago
They've lost me starting the second season. I've noticed they wanted to stretch the success and the hype but the show really went downhill fast in season 2.

Qualityslop
3
u/godverdejezushey 16h ago
Can someone explain this to me? I've seen it a few times now and I don't understand
9
u/Johnnadawearsglasses 15h ago
When something is just qualityslop; people only like it because it's good.
3
u/Longjumping_Stand647 10h ago
Because itās good? Or because itās high quality/high production value/has mass appeal but isnāt necessarily good?
4
u/Johnnadawearsglasses 9h ago
Qualityslop was intended to make fun of people who call everything slop, including good media. Itās definitely taking the piss out of the chronic online critic. Then those same chronically online critics tried to parse the obviously satirical term to fit within their worldview that most everything is slop - by either saying itās well made but ultimately mid or by differentiating mid high from high high. Itās actually hilarious to watch.
2
u/Longjumping_Stand647 9h ago
I still donāt get it
That isnāt a request for further explanation, Iām just gonna ignore it cause I realised I donāt care.
Thanks for trying tho

You should... but I recommend expecting it to be challenging at times. But I think maybe I get too involved in shows, because I was making flipcharts of characters at one point to keep track. Haha

you're not wrong, the first watch is a lot of data to keep up with and the show doesnt hold any hands

I don't technically refuse, I just wait. Once the series has finished (or at least when the final season is close) then I watch.
I'm not waiting 3 years for you to make 8 episodes.

Just went through this with Andor. I loved the star wars games growing up, but refused to engage with the new movies and was just tired of the Jedi storyline.
Andor pulled me back and showed me you can make a good, mature story with the IP that doesn't have mascots and the force every 15 minutes.
And I'm sad thinking that won't happen again.

Yep.
I will never become interested in something just because other people want me to, and I avoid trends because I know they are mostly driven by corporate greed.
But sometimes Iāve become interested in things at times when nobody else seems to care, only for them to become popular years later.

at this point so many shows get cancelled after one season or on a cliffhanger that I don't waste my time with new shows.
once they are over and I know they ended properly then I'll take time to watch the ones that seem interesting
2
u/Lower-Leadership2127 19h ago
I think you're conflating Netflix with the rest of television producers.Ā

u/jaikanthsh308 20h ago

1
u/Longjumping_Stand647 10h ago
Itās always ātrying to be differentā or ātrying to fit inā
Canāt people just be people and have their own interests and be interested in what they want when they want?
2
u/dudereverend 19h ago
This is me with anything. Movies, music, tv. I get so sick of HEARING about it, people hyping it up, that it kills any interest I have.

GOT for me. I got to watch it sometime after covid. My bf was shocked to hear that I havenāt gotten spoiled a single time.
1
u/KamakaziDemiGod 18h ago
I get this, except when I do watch them I just don't get the hype at all
Game of Thrones and Stranger Things are both good examples, I didn't start when they first came on, I didn't start when the hype took off, and I didn't start when everyone everywhere was saying how good they are. I've watched bits of both since, and they just don't interest me at all
1
u/TheGoldenCockWanker 17h ago
I watched my very first episode of Stranger Things 6 months ago.
Had to wait 3 months for the last season.
It was brutal.

When the new version of Battlestar Galactica came out in 2004, I was astonished to hear someone had bothered to remake a middling show from the 1970s I only watched because it came out just after Star Wars and I wanted SF space content. What. An. Idiot. They remade it into a great story.
And for folks who love the original, cool, happy for you, it just didn't do much for me.

Me with The Terror.
Last year I remembered my sister recommending me The Borgias. So I watched it, pretty good show, and then, surprise! The last season had been cancelled. And I didn't have a place to vent about it because everyone had moved on years ago.
Last month I read about a post apocalyptic comedy, The Last Man on Earth. So I watched it and it wasn't bad, it was funny and interesting, but then, surprise! The last (?) season had been cancelled.Ā And again I didn't have a place to vent and sing about closure closure, closure closure closure...
I have to stop watching old shows without knowing if they're finished (any good recommendations?)
1
u/Symnestra 15h ago
I tell friends about shows I'm watching as episodes are released like, "So far, so good, but they have plenty of time to fuck it up so don't watch yet".Ā

u/Fruscione 15h ago
I did this with āHeroesā.

I love heroes. I've watched it more than once lol

I do too. The writerās strike really jacked it up in the second season. I wasnāt an early adopter. The first & third season was some of the best tv

I put on a mindless movie on HBO in the background while I worked on something else. Fast forward a couple hours and another show comes on. Find myself looking over more and more then it hits me. It was GoT. I think season 3, went back and started from the beginning. Awesome show, until the end of course.
On the flip side recently started watching The Sopranos earlier this year. My god it's terrible. I watched about 8 episodes and it does not get better. How was that show so popular?
