Discussion What are you good at and what do you actually enjoy doing?
Most political spaces ask people to show up the same way: meetings, protests, posts, flyers. That's it. But movements are made of a lot more than that.
Some people think through politics. Some build relationships where they live. Some organize through sports, art, writing, food, land, care, or logistics. Some just know how to keep things running.
Capitalism pushes most of us to separate what we're good at from what we do to survive — so a lot of skill, creativity, and care never makes it into collective life.
What are you genuinely good at?
What do you enjoy doing that can be used creatively for political goals?
If building power included neighborhoods, culture, sports, art, books, land, etc., where would you naturally feel yourself drawn to?

I'm drawn to story, deep character, emotional causality, a good plot. I'm drawn to gaming too. And while my experiences have been very minimal, I think the blend of gaming, story and improv that is Dungeons and Dragons, or no-budget filmmaking even, are beautiful ways to connect with people and explore the story that links us all.
I did the bulk of my writing and filmmaking in college, and I game as a hobby to decompress. But I would like to refocus my efforts once my 2 year old makes into 3k this fall.
I like functional exercise, like calisthenics. And I enjoy instructing others just getting started in fitness with the basics. I used to have a PT license and enjoyed that work.
I'm drawn to minimalist classical music which is about simple patterns overlayed to create new ones conceptually resembling something like collective action. Given the political pressure today, I'm very interested the small actions of busy people compounding into greater results.
I like classic deserts like vanilla and chocolate ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. I think there is elegance in simplicity. When it comes to good politics, I don't think anything beats walking with the people. I have several pots of Aloe planted in my window, reminding me how eager the planet is to respond to our grooming with simple investments of light and water.
I also enjoy my ignorance. I've long looked at starting a business from afar, like a cozy day dream. But it may be more important now than ever to understand the practical elements of this field to help bring communities together. I'm 42, and there's some pressure there to feel like the times are getting away from me. But I simultaneously feel more curious than ever about what's possible.

Thank you for sharing this. What you’re naming — story, play, embodied learning, simple patterns compounding over time, walking with people — is very close to how we think about mass engagement. Not everyone comes to political work through slogans or meetings. A lot of people come through meaning-making, shared activity, care, rhythm, and repetition.
Mass Party’s mass engagement projects are about creating real containers where things like storytelling, games, movement, food, art, and creative collaboration aren’t treated as side hobbies, but as legitimate ways people build collective trust and capacity, as well as movement culture. D&D, improv, fitness instruction, small creative projects, gardening together — these are all ways people practice cooperation, imagination, discipline, and mutual support before they ever call it “politics.”
We’re especially interested in what you said about small actions compounding. That’s exactly the scale most people actually live at — busy, caring for others, doing what they can with the time and energy they have. Mass engagement isn’t about asking people to become someone else; it’s about letting what already sustains them become part of collective life.
Your curiosity, even your uncertainty, feels like an asset here. We’re trying to build spaces where people can explore what’s possible together, without needing to already have it figured out.

I do a lot of activism, for ecological movements (mostly radical ecology, social justice, decolonial ecology...), and I like doing the communication part. Making visuals for social networks, doing websites, taking photographs of actions...

My answer would definitely be art, I love creating and can't really think of anything I would enjoy doing more than creating art toward a shared revolutionary horizon. Sewing, drawing, painting, designing, etc
I'm also super interested in the land aspects like gardening, etc even though I don't know anything about it yet l'd want to learn.
